He's on something of a comeback, Marin. Which is great.

I really need to go to bed.

Marin needs bigger shorts.

kazzaD66 · 01/09/2020 22:31

I don't like the shirt that Dan's opponent is wearing.

kazzaD66 · 01/09/2020 23:43

Wow!

Apparently, it's the first time since 1974 that there have been four British men in the second round of the US Open.

Fizzywinegum · 02/09/2020 13:47

That’s a long time since there were 4 British men going into the second round kazza

Are we all going to be cheering Kyle on against Djok later? I hope he’s not going to be wearing a pink day-glo monstrosity!

I was just reading that there were 9 mothers in the US Open draw - funny how only one seems to get a mention Hmm

kazzaD66 · 02/09/2020 14:21

He can wear what he likes fizzy as long as he beats Djok.
It won't happen though and I'm not going to watch Djok win.

So, your starter for ten, who were the four men back in 1974?
No googling to begin with!
Off the top of my head, the likely suspects could be any of the following perhaps....?

Roger Taylor
Mark Cox
David Lloyd
John Lloyd
Buster Mottram
John Feaver
Richard Lewis
Paul Hutchins

I'm scrapping the bottom of the barrel a bit now but I can't help thinking there's one or two that I just can't remember Hmm

PrivateSpidey · 02/09/2020 15:09

Grin
Is that match today??

Sorry I didn't stay up to share in the excitement about Dan winning kazza - although no doubt it was a run of the mill victory for such a top player.

You did well with your list of 70s players! I think Jeremy Bates would definitely have been too young Grin I'd be struggling to name any others of the 70s.

JaneJeffer · 02/09/2020 15:23

Apart from guessing at John Lloyd I'm far too young to remember any of those. That and the fact that Wimbledon was the only tennis I got to watch in my youth. Which is getting to be the case in my dotage as well. Thanks for nothing Sky.

PrivateSpidey · 02/09/2020 16:03

Ah they revealed the 4 on Prime!

John Lloyd was one of them - the photo they used makes him look like a 70s version of Zverev. Or Zverev's a 21st century John Lloyd, not sure which Grin

kazzaD66 · 02/09/2020 16:11

Legs Lloyd was quite a dish in his youth (by '70's standards Wink) Grin

Who were the other 3 private?
Roger Taylor must be one of them?

Raahh · 02/09/2020 16:28

Aternoon! Just settlng in to watch Kerber.

FIzzy 9 mothers, eh? But only one that matters Hmm.

Actually, I think it might be Olympia's birthday around about now.

Kazza I succumbed to googlingGrin. I missed the Prime announcement- but I reckon Lloyd, Taylor and Cox were 3/4 . The 4th one, I can't say I had heard of...

Raahh · 02/09/2020 16:30

(that's if I have the right 4!)

Fizzywinegum · 02/09/2020 16:40

Kyle v Djok is on later at about 6.15pm tonight

I thought John Lloyd would have been one but not sure about the others (I’m also too young to remember Jane Wink)

Yes he was quite a catch in the 70s Grin

PrivateSpidey · 02/09/2020 16:41

Legs Lloyd
Grin

Yes kazza Roger Taylor was there, plus Mark Cox and Gerald Battrick (I hadn't heard of him I'm sad to say). 3 out of 4 kazza!

Raahh · 02/09/2020 16:44

YY, Gerald Battrick- he's the 4th one (that I will have to bank , for future Pointless reasons)- on googling, I discoverd he was Welsh, retired in 76 (probably why I hadn't heard of him), and died at the age of only 51, in 98.

But he's had a mention today. Grin

Raahh · 02/09/2020 16:48

And to answer my previous musing, It was Olympia's birthday yesterday.

It's is Djok's daughter (Tara's) birthday today, I think.

They are both 3.

I am full of useless info today. Grin

kazzaD66 · 02/09/2020 16:48

Mark Cox came to my old tennis club and took some coaching sessions about 35 years ago Grin

I'm sorry.
Gerald Battrick??!!!
They've made that up!
He doesn't even sound like a tennis player, more like an accountant (apologies to any accountants out there!) Grin
Never heard of him Confused

And, can I just say, my age was only in single figures in 1974!Grin

Is the US Open late this year, then? I swear Olympia was born nearer the end of the tournament...
kazzaD66 · 02/09/2020 16:49

X post re Gerald Raahh Grin

Jourdain11 · 02/09/2020 16:50

(Realise that makes it sound like SW was participating in said tournament, but Venus was in the final, was she not?)

I think it sounds like a 70s Labour MP from Yorkshire.
Raahh · 02/09/2020 16:51

I think it is, Joudain, possibly out by about a week- I am sure the final usually coincides with my dcs going back to school. (Altough this year is all out of sync!).

Raahh · 02/09/2020 16:52

kazza Grin

PrivateSpidey · 02/09/2020 17:58

Just been watching Kerber - close second set but she played really well.

Now watching Kvitova v (Madam) Kozlova.

(Madam Kozlova is a character in Paddington 2 but every time they say "Kozlova" I think "don't you mean Madam Kozlova") Grin

Anyway she is playing well and serving for the first set.

Sorry for the wittering
Grin

I'll be talking about seats next.

Raahh · 02/09/2020 18:18
Grin

I started watching Kerber, and switched to KvitovaGrin.

Madama Kozlova Grin

There are a lot of 'Ks' about.

Fizzywinegum · 02/09/2020 18:24

Are you lot angling for AC’s job if he ever retires Grin
