For me, it's Pamela Rabe. So underrated but so immensely brilliant. Also think Jessica Lange is amazing.

I think Tilda Swindon is very impressive in pretty much everything

Jayneisagirlsname · 09/08/2020 22:38

Kittytheteapot I totally agree about Colin Morgan. Amazingly talented on stage and screen.

Nutellalovesme · 09/08/2020 22:40

FixItUpChappie · 09/08/2020 22:41

Another for Dame Patricia Routledge, I could watch her in anything.
Ditto Stephen Graham.

Guylan · 10/08/2020 02:48

I thought Claire Foy’s performance as Anne Boleyn in Wolf Hall was great. She was also good in the Crown.

Guylan · 10/08/2020 02:55

Dominic West has played a variety of v different roles v well. His Fred West was chilling.

Littleroundsponge · 10/08/2020 03:05

Siobhan Finnernan
Phoebe Waller Bridge
Meryl Streep

Goodoldfashionedploverboy · 10/08/2020 03:06

Jodie Comer
Jodie Foster
Maggie Smith (esp as Miss Jean Brodie)
Helen Mirren (as Jane Tennyson particularly, but in everything she has done really)
Elizabeth Moss
Fiona Shaw
Mia Farrow (most beautiful woman ever imho too)
Julianne Moore for her performance in Still Alice
Kathy Bates
Suranne Jones

It seems I don’t really notice men... Blush

Goodoldfashionedploverboy · 10/08/2020 03:07

Oops, Elisabeth not Elizabeth Moss.

KatherineJaneway · 10/08/2020 06:24

Holly Hunter is great. So is Sigourney Weaver. They did a film together called Copycat that I love but it didn't do that amazingly at the box office. It would nowadays though.

Jolie Foster is superb.

What a brilliant thread.

Jodie Comer

Luther was utter bilge, even if he did look good in his big coat! He was brilliant in The Wire but so was everyone, so I'm putting it down to brilliant script/ direction

AH!

I could never properly get in to "Luther".

I have "The Wire" box stand watch it a lot, so it has obviously coloured ny judgement.

Damien Lewis in his portrayal of Henry VIII in Wolf Hall, absolutely mesmerising.

Agree - caught the "charming but brutal psychopath" vibe perfectly.

Was mis-cast in the Forsyte Saga though.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/08/2020 09:31

Wolf Hall was brilliantly cast all round - Claire Foy as Anne, Mark Lesser as Thomas More and of course Mark Rylance as Cromwell. I'd had doubts about him at first since he really didn't fit the role physically but soon I couldn't imagine anyone but him as Master Secretary. I wonder when - or if - they're going to do a sequel? It would be great if they could get the same cast and crew together again.

Well - there are two more books . . .

I think it must have been very expensive to produce though, and I'm not sure what the viewing figures were like.

(I've watched it twice, if you're wondering. And have the books. And the audible versions. Not biased at all. . . )

Supersimkin2 · 10/08/2020 10:25

Oh God of course - Mark Rylance.

Deadringer · 10/08/2020 11:47

Claire Foy was mesmerising in The Crown, and Emma Thompson is great, not sure if she has got a mention.

IcedPurple · 10/08/2020 12:23

Well - there are two more books . . .

The TV series covered the first two books, so only 'The Mirror and the Light' is left.

I think it must have been very expensive to produce though, and I'm not sure what the viewing figures were like.

Yes it would have cost a fortune, and I don't think viewing figures were great. Obviously that shouldn't be the only factor, but it seems to feature above all else for the BBC these days. Also, the first series was broadcast 5 years ago, so I wonder if they'd be able to reassemble the same cast and crew, many of whom are in high demand? I'd love it if they did - I'm as big a fan as you - but sadly I have my doubts.

Deadringer · 10/08/2020 12:37

I watched Galaxy Quest with my dds recently and they loved it.

Galaxy Quest managed to be a good film in its own right while taking the piss very successfully from Star Trek: The Original Series.

Elderflower14 · 10/08/2020 13:05

@SillyUnMurphy
Loved Maharshala Ali in Green Book. He and Vigo Mortensen were brilliant... Film went straight in my top 10.

Elderflower14 · 10/08/2020 13:08

I LOVED Dominic West playing Richard Burton... Helena Bonham Carter`s Liz Taylor less so!
