I really enjoyed Australian dramas The Slap, and The secrets she keeps.
Can anyone recommend any other series based in Australia please? The accent is cheering me up and transports me to a sunny place in lieau of a summer holiday Blush

Please Like Me was excellent. Also on Netflix.

IjustbelieveinMe · 25/07/2020 08:17

Mystery Road is brilliant, with 2 seasons

Optimist1 · 25/07/2020 08:24

Crownies (legal drama series) and the follow up Janet King. Both very engaging and on STV. I'm not in Scotland but found the STV app on Firestick.

Dr Blake Mysteries
...

Oh god, because I too love Aussie drama's I made the mistake of watching The Towers - don't even try. Half way through episode 4 I thought "this looks familiar" then I realised it is on during the day on BBC 1 - round about the time Doctors is on Blush.
Call me a daytime telly snob, but I draw the line at really crap soap type stuff.

7 Types of Ambiguity is an interesting watch, on Channel 5. I gave up on Offspring. I found the siblings, in a variety of ways, too exasperating o bear. Nina's neuroticism, Billy being an aging, tottering, eating-disordered dolly bird and the brother so feckless as to be almost learning disabled.

WellGoshDarnIt · 26/07/2020 21:18

Can highly recommend Upright, starring Tim Minchin. Funny, poignant and dramatic. Lots of lovely shots of the Australian outback. Unfortunately I think it's only available on Sky Atlantic though.

I really enjoyed Harrow, set in Brisbane.

Didn’t mind Just Like Me and The Letdown. Gave up on Offspring 3 seasons in.

If you can find it, Underbelly is really good.

antipodes1 · 27/07/2020 23:45

Bluey! Great to watch with the kids.

TheGirlWhoLived · 30/07/2020 23:01

@antipodes1

Bluey! Great to watch with the kids.
Not really bingeworthy though 😁 I quite like little lunch or the inbestigators too, again not really binge worthy but definitely Australian! For that matter why not home and away

Have you seen Doctor Doctor, good Aussie series

janaus50s · 31/07/2020 15:57

Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries

janaus50s · 31/07/2020 16:04

A Place to Call Home. Halifax if you can find it, with Rebecca Gibney, anything with Rebecca Gibney is good.

janaus50s · 31/07/2020 16:11

Packed to the Rafters on Amazon

Jbck · 31/07/2020 18:14

Can’t recommend any others but agree with Upright, Frayed and Jaime.
Upright is only 6 episodes but I watched them in 2 nights! 😆 and 😭

The80sweregreat · 31/07/2020 18:15

Just started Stateless which seems very good. Netflix.

midsomermurderess · 31/07/2020 19:31

I've just started watching Bloom which is on Channel 5. A mysterious plant, growing after a flash flood, temporarily restores youth. It's thought provoking and has some good performances, including from Bryan Brown.

HeyMicky · 31/07/2020 19:35

The End is absolutely fantastic.

KittyHawke80 · 31/07/2020 19:35

I actually think 'Five Bedrooms' was better than 'easy viewing' - I though it was excellent. Really good performances all round including, unexpectedly, the bloke who used to be in 'H & A'. '800 Words' also really good.
I tried with that period one where someone's husband is gay, and 'The Heights' and though they were total balls.

janaus50s · 02/08/2020 12:46

Lol Kath & Kim ... noice. No one mentioned Dame Edna, no idea why.

RCBadger · 02/08/2020 19:16

@janaus50s

Packed to the Rafters on Amazon
They're doing a sequel to that called "Back to the Rafters" which will air exclusively on Amazon Prime.
Stillbloodyraining · 03/08/2020 09:05

I just binged all 10 episodes of The End yesterday (they are only 30 mins each). I really enjoyed it but the subject matter might not be for everyone -suicide/assisted suicide.

mummabubs · 03/08/2020 09:29

Tim Minchin's Upright - only 8 eps but will make you laugh and cry. Beautiful series, available through Sky or Now TV in the UK x

MistressMounthaven · 03/08/2020 09:36

The End is a black comedy very low key but a bit different. Harriet Walters starred, can't remember the names of the others.
