Does anyone watch Jack Whitehall's Sporting Nation? I like it.

Raahh · 31/07/2020 20:47

Jane I am watching it now. The bit about Fred Perry got to me- because he is a 'local'.

I like Jack.

I was watching the 'fake' Baftas before it. It felt very strange,- although I like that a lot of the winners were more honest than they might have been.

Yes the BAFTA's was weird but Emmerdale won so it's all good! Chris O'Dowd made me laugh.

Raahh · 31/07/2020 21:00

I love Chris O 'Dowd- The It Crowd is one of favourite things to watch - over and over.

I haven't watched Emmerdale for years. I think Lorraine Chase was in it, last time I did. I seem to go through phases with some soaps. Haven't watched Corrie for nearly 20 years.

I think the only ones I really watch are Hollyoaks (random) and Holby.

I think I’m watching the same telly as you lot Grin

I remember watching Seb Coe and Steve Ovett at the Olympics - it doesn’t seem like that long ago - the shorts were very short then Shock

JaneJeffer · 31/07/2020 22:16

I'm watching Bridget Jones for the millionth time now Grin

PrivateSpidey · 01/08/2020 09:25

Hi all - have enjoyed catching up on your chat Smile

Has your dog not had a rethink on Kyrgios Raahh - now that he is the Voice of Reason?! Grin

We also had a BBQ last night Fizzy - same thing happened with the weather Hmm And yes it stayed so hot didn't it? I woke up in the night in a huff that DH had shut the windows when it was so stuffy - then realised they were still open and that was just what the weather was like!! Shock

I think Evo quite suits the moustache!! Grin

Raahh · 01/08/2020 10:34

Private the dog is confused by Kyrgios Grin.

the dog just wants me to shut up, I think

Well, so much for the sun- it's really cloudy here today, but very muggy still.

How can it be August already?? I feel like we have skipped a few months.

I think Evo suits his Union Jack face mask more Grin

The tache is off today anyway.

Watched the final mixed doubles last night and have gone off Konta even more. She complained to the umpire that the Union Jacks (chief cheerleaders being Dan and Andy) were being too noisy Hmm Poor thing doesn't seem to have grasped the concept of this team competition (I've hardly seen her supporting on the team bench!) and it's a bit rich, considering her teammate Liam Broady is just about the loudest slater of the lot!!
Anyway, Andy's answer to the complaint was to toot the very loud klaxon just before any second serve that Konta did Grin
She really seems devoid of any sense of humour and makes even Cam and Kyle seem like crazy party people Grin

JaneJeffer · 01/08/2020 15:07

I like Johanna when she's not playing tennis. She strikes me as the type of person who likes to have everything just-so and probably finds chaos really stressful whereas the likes of Dan seems to thrive on it.

Raahh · 01/08/2020 16:03

crazy party people Grin

Kyle is still being a 'bench' then? (I haven't had chance to watch any of the tennis this week).

I don't think Konta seems like she has a sense of humour.

It's tied at 45-45 points going into the final day tomorrow. I've watched most of the bigger matches but I've really enjoyed the doubles, especially the mixed, which has been the final match every night and has carried the most points. Also, because it is the last match of the day, everyone (apart from Konta Hmm) has been on the team benches supporting, so you don't notice there are no other spectators Grin
I've really enjoyed the week. There's been some great tennis and the team dynamics and camaraderie have been brilliant to watch. It's been good because there is a mix of girls and boys and the experienced and higher ranked players, plus some up and coming juniors, plus everything in between. The experience for the teenagers being around and playing with or against the likes of Andy all week must be fantastic for them. It's a shame there can't be something like this every year but the higher ranked players will play the ranking tournaments. But I would say that this week has been one of the very few positives from this whole bloody Covid situation.

It was Katie Boulter's 24th birthday today and her team brought a birthday cake on court for her, with a banner and balloons Grin

Fizzywinegum · 02/08/2020 09:00

Kyrgios has (unsurprisingly) withdrawn from the us open - he still seems to be talking a lot of sense (your dog will be confused Raahh Grin)

I think I’m going to watch the Battle of the Brits today kazza - you’ve sold it to me! I’ve never really warmed to Jo Konta - I like the sound of Andy Murray doing the klaxon when she complained about the noise!

I’m feeling a bit delicate this morning. We went round to some friends last night to recreate the festival that we should have been going to In their garden. We got told off by their neighbours for being too noisy and now I’ve got a headache Hmm

I think a quiet day on the settee watching tennis is in order.

Raahh · 02/08/2020 11:30

Not surprised about Kyrgios, I wonder if we will see him play again this year? If he is worried about the US, I'm not sure he will be keen to play in Europe. Plus, he thinks clay sucks, so why would he bother ? Grin.

My washing machine arrived at 8am this morning. Cue the dog barking his head off, as though we were being burgled. It is very fancy. It plays a tune when the washing cycle finishes.

Fizzy hope your head gets better soon. Wine

Does anyone know if the tennis is on the red button today? The FA Cup final was on yesterday instead even though it was also on the main channels Hmm

kazzaD66 · 02/08/2020 11:57

I don't know Jane Just back from a walk, so haven't tried yet.
I was thoroughly hacked off yesterday because when I tried to watch it on the red button earlier in the afternoon, the bloody snooker was on, despite being on BBC2 aswell Angry
I player has stopped working on our tv for some reason, so DH eventually managed to get get it working on an old laptop for the last two matches of the day.

Fizzywinegum · 02/08/2020 12:27

I’ve just tried the red button and it’s snooker (which I think is also on the proper telly!) I’m not sure if I’m up to the challenge of firing up the laptop Grin

The washing machine playing a tune sounds good Raahh - mine just beeps annoyingly at me!

Jane I did wonder if our friend’s neighbours were on Mumsnet Grin

Fizzywinegum · 02/08/2020 12:48

It looks as if the Madrid Open is likely to be cancelled and a player at the Palermo Open has tested positive for Covid Sad

Raahh · 02/08/2020 13:00

Fizzy Sad.

Again, not surprised by the Madrid cancellation. I wish (though I do want to see tennis!) they would just pull the plug on this year. It would mean players know where they stand- and there is no risk.

At the same time though- time is ticking. I don't really want this to be how the era of the Big 3 comes to an end. I do think Rafa had/has a couple more slams in him. I want him to match Roger's tally, I think that is fitting (I'm not sure Fed has another slam win in him), Djok was looking pretty on top of his game at the start of this year.

It's all very sadSad.

kazzaD66 · 02/08/2020 16:00

If you want to watch tennis Raahh it is on the red button.
I know it's not Nadal but there have been some great matches this week and the final two doubles today (both mixed, the first featuring Andy, the second with Jamie and Salisbury) should be good.

Fizzywinegum · 02/08/2020 16:55

The final of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown is also on the BBC website at 8pm I think - it sounds too far away from real tennis for me I think but could be interesting

Raahh · 02/08/2020 17:02

I had to take my very needy dog for yet another walk Grin.

I kept putting the red button on, and was only getting snooker - I must have been early Grin.

The UTS tennis thing is very odd. I can't get my head around the scoring.

Dan Grin

JaneJeffer · 02/08/2020 19:03

Ooh exciting!!

PrivateSpidey · 02/08/2020 19:04

Hi all I need to try and find some tennis to watch! Our iPlayer hasn't been working either the last couple of days Hmm but if it's still going on I'm going to try and track it down.

So Madrid is cancelled?? I feel exact as you said Raahh, I really want to see tennis but only when it's safe for all the players. I remember Feli Lopez a while ago saying how much tournaments stand to lose if they just don't go ahead so it will be awful if Madrid doesn't happen but I can understand why.

I don't want to contemplate anyone retiring under these circs, that would be totally rubbish. Sad

Glad your washing machine arrived Raahh! Hope your head's better Fizzy Brew
