New thread...

Will Yasmeen get her freedom or will she languish in the jail (where so many have before her!) by the end of this thread?

@Clawdy

What was really interesting about The Road To Coronation Street was the part where Tony Warren was rightly insisting on casting only Northern actors in the roles - a hard-fought battle which he won. But look who was in this drama - Celia Imrie as Doris Speed (Annie Walker), and, ridiculously, Jessie Wallace as Pat Phoenix! Apparently she had to have dialect training - and she was still completely wrong for the role.
I thought that too!! It was so ironic it was laughable!

I saw a trailer during that programme for actual Corrie featuring yasmeen, there weren’t any spoilers it just showed scenes we had already seen like the court when she said not guilty so hopefully her trial is coming soon. I’ve got my 10yo DS hooked as he’s been here due to no school so has been watching Corrie with me during the daytime Grin

@Eastie77 I forgot Toyah and Peter had been together!!Blush

Dougalthesyrianhamster · 01/07/2020 10:19

@Smallsteps88 Grin Ahh gotcha! That really blew my mind for a minute there

Eastie77 · 01/07/2020 13:04

Dieu I laughed when Ryan said he had no issues with a background check. How many drug related scrapes has he been involved with and he has no criminal record?! The fact that SS would allow Toyah and Imran to bring a vulnerable child into that household is a joke.

Re. Tony Warren casting Northern actors, I thought I read Ken/Bill Roache is from Nottingham (as is the actor who plays Peter). but I assume the majority of the original cast were from the North.

I remember Cindy from Eastenders appearing as Leanne's mum. As a Londoner I'm no expert but her Northern accent sounded atrocious to meGrin

desperatehousewife21 · 01/07/2020 14:10

Bit like Jessie Wallace’s was in road to CS. It’s like dick van dyke’s attempt at cockney Grin

eggandonion · 01/07/2020 14:12

I don't think the social work department worry about drugs, Summer was allowed to stay with Billy when he had addiction issues and went to rehab in the tanning salon.

Smallsteps88 · 01/07/2020 14:46

and went to rehab in the tanning salon.

Grin
Clawdy · 01/07/2020 15:37

Yes, Bill Roache was born in Nottingham, but grew up in Derbyshire, so I guess they felt he just about ticked the boxes! That was his real son playing him, not the best actor. Hmm

ajandjjmum · 01/07/2020 15:42

Wasn't there a point where Ken, his RL son and his RL grandson had parts in Corrie?

Clawdy · 01/07/2020 15:43

Yes, I seem to remember that too! Bit of nepotism there! Grin

Clawdy · 01/07/2020 15:48

Just googled it! Both his actor sons were in it at one time, but the younger son played his grandson, and the older one played his son! Bit confusing!

Smallsteps88 · 01/07/2020 15:50

King Egbert! Grin

ellenanora5 · 01/07/2020 16:20

I don't think I can face Leannes screaming and whinyness for the next few weeks, and I also wonder are they just going to forget all about Oliver diagnoses and never mention it again, I don't know why they do these sort of stories, same with Hope a few years ago, it's never mentioned and she never seems to have any follow up appointments.

CoolCarrie · 01/07/2020 19:18

I think the Oliver story is really distasteful and Steve has already lost one child with Michelle.

Roussette · 01/07/2020 19:19

CoolCarrie I agree with you and I'm glad you said that.

Clawdy · 01/07/2020 19:20

Yes, it's a dreadfully sad, depressing storyline, yet another "ticking boxes" exercise.

CoolCarrie · 01/07/2020 19:24

I agree about Toyah and Imran being ridiculous and when she was with Peter it just didn’t work. Sometimes Corrie reminds me of a play called La Rounde where the characters kept changing partners in a constant merry go round. Between Michelle, Carla and Leanne alone they have been with half the men in the street, including Daniel.

Smallsteps88 · 01/07/2020 19:24

Agreed. Tbh I think using serious illnesses (sinead, hawp, Roberts cancer, Johnny’s MS, baby Rory) in the way they do is pretty distasteful anyway but the fact Steve has already lost a child and there is absolutely no mention of that in relation to this story and how that would affect Steve (who also had a brief but serious depression too) having to go through it again. It’s all drama and no reality. There are no real people in these stories. Just big stories. Then forgotten about.

CoolCarrie · 01/07/2020 19:25

And Peter, Steve and Nick have been with half the women!

Roussette · 01/07/2020 19:32

Sometimes Corrie does someone very ill and dying soooo well and with such sensitivity.
I cried when Alma died and Hayley too. Just acted and portrayed so well.

But this Oliver storyline feels like it's just been popped in to the series for something to do.

Smallsteps88 · 01/07/2020 19:35

Yes I think Hayley was the last one that was don’t amazingly well.

excelledyourself · 01/07/2020 19:39

I thought Aidan's suicide was done well.

I cannot bear the way Leanne talks to Oliver. It's beyond fake.

Smallsteps88 · 01/07/2020 19:42

Yes Aidan’s was good too.

Her voice is so grating. It goes straight through me. And fizz too.

excelledyourself · 01/07/2020 19:45

I'm used to Fiz. At least hers is pretty much always the same. It's the change in Leanne's for Oliver that makes it so irritating.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 01/07/2020 19:46

Some people have faces that are begging for a slap with a wet bit of halibut. Jamie Oliver has one... And Simon does.. whack right in the kisser.
