Ive just started it but its so bloody violent it makes The Sopranos look like Disney? The story is good but I dont know if I can stomach it.

My husband is watching it, I legged it after the first 30 seconds.

Reading Twitter reviews was enough for me. No bloody chance

ExclamationPerfume · 24/04/2020 22:16

It's brilliant so far. We have watched episode 2.

MabelMoo23 · 24/04/2020 22:21

It’s got fab reviews, but every single one mentions the absolutely brutal violence and it’s just really put me off

ihatethecold · 24/04/2020 22:26

Far too violent.
We switched off after the first 90 mins.
I couldnt work out if the script is awful or the acting is terrible. Something is amiss

FuckyNel · 24/04/2020 22:30

Just finished first episode-we loved it! Brutal yes but also atmospheric and addictive. Going to binge a few over the weekend

SavageBeauty73 · 24/04/2020 22:38

BRUTAL!!!!! Enjoying it though

MissFoodie · 25/04/2020 00:58

Brilliant , modern peaky blinders basically

SavageBeauty73 · 25/04/2020 01:16

Just finished. What an ending.

DurhamDurham · 25/04/2020 20:47

I've watched the first two episodes and loved it, I tend to hide behind my fingers at the brutal parts but I can imagine the story line is going to develop as we find out who's responsible and how they build their empire.
I love Peaky Blinders, Boardwalk Empire etc so clearly don't mind a bit of violence but this was on another scale.
The scene at the Travellers site Shock

Megsmcgoo · 25/04/2020 21:47

I’m watching! Can I ask a question about the first episode that’s annoying me? Apologies if I have missed something!

Spoilers

Why did the boy who drove the car get killed and his brother shoot himself? The only reason I can think of is so the boy who actually killed him could get away? Seemed a bit harsh?

EachandEveryone · 25/04/2020 22:04

And why did he cut the drivers arm?

OP posts:
Megsmcgoo · 25/04/2020 22:28

I’ve watching the second episode and no wiser, things like this annoy me ha, he didn’t really do anything!

findumdum1 · 26/04/2020 00:11

Was it not to save the other boy, the one who actually did the killing, because he's important as is the some of the traveller gang boss (who seem to be Welsh not Irish?)

findumdum1 · 26/04/2020 00:20

son

ExclamationPerfume · 26/04/2020 06:57

Yes he killed the other boy so his own son could get away.

Ed killed Jack the driver as he knew too much.

menthollyinsane · 26/04/2020 08:30

I was wondering if there would be a thread on this.

Absolutely brutal, makes The Krays look like Tom and Jerry. I watched episodes 1 and 2 last night, 7 to go.

harper30 · 26/04/2020 08:54

Finished it last night, bloody loved it!!
Only thing me and DP struggled with was how posh the main character's accent was, considering his family were Irish and his drug addict brother sounded very London, we figured they'd have gone to some sort of boarding school maybe and that's where the accent came from?

RJnomore1 · 26/04/2020 09:17

Finished it last night too. Still digesting. If you can handle the gore stick with it.

We discussed the accent too because he sure as hell didn’t sound like that in peaky blinders. Decided they would have been expensively privately educated, there’s something about the accent and the way Alex presents too that shows they’re expected to be more than gangsters they’ve got to be able to pass as legitimate business men too?

The only character I had sympathy for by the end was Billy.

SavageBeauty73 · 26/04/2020 20:12

Boarding school or public school. Expensive education to make contacts. They were businessmen gangsters.

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 26/04/2020 22:24

Just binge watched the lot...its not like we've got anything else to do here atm 🤣🤣 Bloody brilliant...the ending has paved the way for Series 2...but so many questions Grin

SavageBeauty73 · 26/04/2020 23:44

@Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername we should have a spoiler thread. SO MANY QUESTIONS!

MrsJackRackham · 27/04/2020 08:38

We watched the first episode last night too, I did enjoy it although it was brutal. I can't imagine an Irish Catholic ever naming his son Billy though Hmm

supercee · 27/04/2020 19:11

I'm on the last episode. Brutal doesn't even cut it. We need a spoiler thread!

AuntieMarys · 27/04/2020 19:13

On episode 5. Started it last night. Love it! Also loved Sopranos and Gomorrah. This has very creative violence. I will never look at a bucket again.

Boredsillyathome · 27/04/2020 22:02

Currently on episode 3 and really enjoying it but wow is it brutal I mean who thinks up all these horrific ways to die!!
