I see online it says it was he who wanted to move on and there seems a question mark over mental health /rehab.. But there must have been a better way to do it.

I agree, there could have been a better way.

It's very odd, makes me wonder if this was Justin Chambers decision and he just wanted to end it this way and the writers agreed?

hopelessatthinkingupusernames · 17/06/2020 22:52

So annoyed with that ending for Alex. I liked Alex and Izzie as a couple - 10 years ago! They’ve spent all this time building up his character and creating a happy relationship with Jo and just threw it all away. He told his wife he was leaving her in a letter?? Haven’t been this annoyed at a TV show since the How I Met Your another finale.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 17/06/2020 23:01

Well, that was a massive pile of skiddy pants!🙄

Boredsillyathome · 18/06/2020 08:02

I've not posted on here before but had to, I'm half way through and what a pile of crap!! Greys used to be so good brilliant storylines and now it's just lost its way, Alex's character was such a central character and deserved a much better send off than this Sad

vjg13 · 18/06/2020 08:27

Good grief, this episode is crap! I wanted each letter to give different reasons at least.

covetingthepreciousthings · 18/06/2020 08:28

After watching yesterday's episode.. out of interest, can we have a show of hands if you think Greys should end after this series now?

I never thought I'd think this, but i am starting to believe they should wrap it up.. maybe end this season then have a special double bill episode to tie up loose ends, give people a happy ending.

Lucywilde · 18/06/2020 09:23

I’m going against the grain here but I actually didn’t mind this episode as I loved all the old greys stuff and tend to go back and watch them a lot. But I do think it was very poor with the letters. Executive story editor is Julie Wong so I suspect the writing has changed hands. Greys is probably my most loved TV show, but I do think it has reached a point where nothing more can happen without it being ridiculous. I wish they gave more thought to characters old and new to develop them better. But I do think they maybe need to think about ending it. I remember someone saying that maybe it ends with Meredith in a home because she has Alzheimer’s.

Cherrypi · 18/06/2020 09:24

I think it's reached the end. I enjoyed the last few episodes of ER when that ended.

Boredsillyathome · 18/06/2020 09:30

@covetingthepreciousthings I never ever thought I would say it either but I think it should end before they ruin it completely.

spiderlight · 18/06/2020 09:50

Alex deserved a much better exit storyline than that. He would never have done that to Jo, not even for Izzy. Not when she was so fragile herself. I quite liked the flashbacks at first but they weren't strong enough to carry the whole episode.

Heygirlheyboy · 18/06/2020 10:45

No he wouldn't have done it, though I was not a fan of his, and to seem so joyous and jubilant in the letters and I don't think Meredith would have been smiling reading hers!!

Wrongdissection · 18/06/2020 10:53

So about 10 pages ago when I said I was furious at something a friend told me. It was this. Alex’s exit. She didn’t give me the details but I did know we’d seen Alex’s last episode at Meredith’s trial. I had a passing thought that he might have gone to be with Izzy but I discounted it as being ridiculous and completely out of character. Part of me gets it. But it’s a cop out.

bettyskitchen · 18/06/2020 10:54

Ok I admit it, I cried. (Disclaimer, I’m only 15 mins in)
It’s so not the ending that Alex deserved but I knew it was coming and it was better than I thought it would be. It frustrates me that he only married Jo a few eps ago and then disappeared with no warning, it’s such a dick move. He’s grown so much as a character and they’ve just ruined him with these final eps. I don’t see him as Izzie’s soulmate

spiderlight · 18/06/2020 11:37

@Wrongdissection - I thought of you the minute the episode started! 'Cop out' is spot on. I hate the way central characters are just booted out. This is worse than April and Arizona.

SleepingStandingUp · 18/06/2020 13:36

Has he been sacked or did he walk tho? I think killed off screen would have been less ridiculous but I guess they wanted him to have a happy ever after

covetingthepreciousthings · 18/06/2020 16:15

From the sounds of it, he walked, wanting to "diversify his acting career"...

I agree, I think being killed off would have been a better outcome.. as much as I liked the flash backs, the whole farm with the kids situation was ridiculous. Especially to think after all that character develop he left Jo like that, knowing how vulnerable she is.

He presumably didn't want to film "final" scenes though, as there were those ridiculous hand and waist down shots of him in that episode.. very weird!

BrieAndChilli · 18/06/2020 18:25

It was a very weird ending for Alex and not what I would have chosen BUT as someone also had a terrible childhood I can fully believe that he would have wanted his kids to have the family life he didn’t and that would be the most important thing regardless of who else it hurt.

Such a shit ending for one of the original cast members!!!
Shocking.

If this was the plan why did they build his and Jo's relationship so much.... why didn't they kill their relationship when Jo went to the rehab place?
Grrrr so annoying! Alex was one of the best characters! But maybe Justin could see it was going down hill fast!

I think that's the problem, it wasn't the. the looks like he just didn't come into work one day...

"diversify his acting career"... yeah I read that. At his age with an those kids surely you don't turn down steady work, you negotiate

covetingthepreciousthings · 18/06/2020 21:35

looks like he just didn't come into work one day...

This, Or handed in his resignation with no notice period? Maybe they managed to negotiate the voiceover for the letters but that was it..

UncleShady · 18/06/2020 21:39

And was it definitely him doing the voiceover, not a really good impressionist Grin

Not actually confirmed this Grin

Heygirlheyboy · 18/06/2020 22:07

Ha, his name should be in the credits! I think it was definitely him!

In exchange for the final pay cheque!
