So I had a look and I couldn't find a thread for this series (apologies if there is one already and if someone could link me!) so I thought I'd start one.

Who is looking forward to the new series starting tonight at 8bells on BBC2??

I bloody love a marquise. I made one for my Mum's birthday years ago and it is still my culinary triumph.

GrouchyKiwi · 19/03/2020 20:52

That chocolate dish looks amazing and I want it right now, please and thank you.

PotterHead1985 · 19/03/2020 20:56

@Grouchy doesn't it. Mmmm

I usually look forward to this but the presenter put me right off the new series it a few minutes into episode one.

jay55 · 20/03/2020 11:11

I was watching on delay last night.
The way the tasters were all shovelling in the golden ticket dessert was something I'd not seen before.

All the extra rounds are a bit of a faff really, though might be good if a tie breaker is needed. So many tens already just seems totally daft. And some of the 8s sounded like 6s and 7s.

That pig bladder was grim, felt disrespectful to the animal really and I'm an ardent meat eater.

Egghead68 · 20/03/2020 11:15

I don’t like the new format. Why lose someone part-way through? The presenter looks like a spare part.

That Willy Wonka pudding must have been quite something to render them all speechless.

PutColinInTheCorner · 20/03/2020 16:25

I don't like the format either. Susan Calman is superfluous, and bearing in mind the whole premise of the series is to get a dish through to the banquet, it makes no sense to get rid of anyone before they've had chance to cook all their dishes. What if someone happened to be last after the first two rounds, but had an incredible main or pudding? That's often happened before.

PotterHead1985 · 20/03/2020 19:49

@jay55 yea I watched them dig into that pudding the way Greggg would and thought 'that must be divine'.

Yea between the presenter - her voice and her pointlessness, and the elimination so early I'm not loving this series so far.

Evening is anyone is around. I hope the lass goes through. I think it's going to be close.

PotterHead1985 · 20/03/2020 20:07

Evening @jay55 I'm here as always

I hope she does too although she went down in my estimation yesterday when she said Slytherin was the only Hogwarts house she knew besides Gryffindor!!

PotterHead1985 · 20/03/2020 20:11

Aaannd it froze!

OP posts:
jay55 · 20/03/2020 20:15

It did for me too. The chap is clearly ahead at this point. The judges insufferable as usual.

PotterHead1985 · 20/03/2020 20:16

Sally isn't doing well in the judges eyes is she?

PotterHead1985 · 20/03/2020 20:19

I'd forgotten what an arsehole he was!

OP posts:
jay55 · 20/03/2020 20:20

No she cooks tasty food not fancy themed bollox. The pig bladder is still vile.

PotterHead1985 · 20/03/2020 20:29

Saw that coming a mile off

OP posts:
jay55 · 20/03/2020 20:29

Yeah, I don't see any of those dishes on the final menu. Shame.

PotterHead1985 · 20/03/2020 20:32

No me neither. Can you imagine pigs bladder at the banquet? Put everyone off their food!!

See you on the other side in half an hour.

I watched this - and to be quite honest by the end of it I couldn't care less which Cook cooked what and who they were. None of them made anything that I would attempt (in more happy times) to make at home or maybe I am just suffering from cooker overload...

...who knows - in a few months time this show may consist of making a meal with :

tin of corned beef
1/2 cup of pasta
1 tin of tomatoes (with accompanying Security Guard)
1 stock cube

.. then I may be interested..

GrouchyKiwi · 21/03/2020 12:23

I've read through your comments and decided not to watch this episode. I think I'd be irritated.

Did the judges at least like Sally's dessert?

Icare1234 · 21/03/2020 12:26

Catching up but got bored.

whoknows2017 - that would make for an interesting Ready Steady Cook. No larder, but knowing these chefs they’d cook the security guard’s belt.

Daphine2004 · 21/03/2020 22:29

I was so bloody excited to watch this. I have been watching for years and loved it. I started to watch the first episode of this new series. Absolutely hate it! My reasons why:

  • No need for a presenter at all. Doesn’t add a thing.
  • Courses seem rushed through.
  • Lost the camaraderie by weeny the chefs
  • it’s lost the love it had.

I watched 15 mins before I gave up. Won’t be watching any more which I’m gutted about!
