So I had a look and I couldn't find a thread for this series (apologies if there is one already and if someone could link me!) so I thought I'd start one.

Who is looking forward to the new series starting tonight at 8bells on BBC2??

I'm not sure about the direction Samira is taking. It's a bit depressing.

PotterHead1985 · 06/05/2020 20:48

Agree. And the blue reminds me of Sandys consommé

Toilet water blue. Lovely thought.

I could really demolish a few scallops right now.

PotterHead1985 · 06/05/2020 20:51

In fairness the sea is FULL of toilet water!!! Confused

The train Shock. Love it.

I missed the toilet water, Tesco delivery arrived. I do like this group, but not all their ideas.

GrouchyKiwi · 06/05/2020 20:55

Cool presentation. Shame about the vinegar.

PotterHead1985 · 06/05/2020 20:57

I'm gonna finish off my application tomorrow I hope by the way. Fingers crossed that a, I get picked and b, this lockdown can piss off so it can go ahead.

/continue as you were.

Aww poor Samira.

lettingthedaysgoby · 06/05/2020 21:00

Good luck, Potter

jay55 · 06/05/2020 21:01

Best of luck with the application. I've been loving the current Aussie series.

Sad to see Samira go, but she did do two duff dishes

PotterHead1985 · 06/05/2020 21:03

I'm loving the aus series too. And quite pleased with the judging lineup which I know was controversial.

Thank you both. I'll do it for all us Cheffians.

I am still in the early days of Aussie MC - season 5, I think - so lots to go. Who are the new judges?

Stellaris22 · 06/05/2020 21:16

I really wish that the region meant something, it gets silly when they all work in or have London restaurants. I'm sure there was a series about championing local produce once and I'd like to see more of that.

qate · 07/05/2020 14:11

Late joiner here, but agree with a lot of the comments above. Find SC a bit superfluous to proceedings though she's grown on me as it's gone on (I actually think her best moments have been with Michael O H who I've previously not been a fan of, but think his judging has been some of the top this series).

Biggest disappointment for me has been expectation v reality - I thought the brief this year sounded fab, and gave so many options but so few of the dishes have really hit the brief in any meaningful way. As others have said, references to books have been shoehorned in to an absurd degree and some haven't even pretended to try. Such a disappointment given how clever and on-point previous years have been - thinking in particular of the World War and Women's Institute briefs, which gave rise to (IMO) some of the most imaginative and thoughtful dishes.

Not interested in the amuse bouche/pre dessert especially given that they havent seemed to have any link to the brief.

Rant over GrinBlush

Missed last night so will pop off to catch up shortly!

PotterHead1985 · 07/05/2020 19:59

Evening all

jay55 · 07/05/2020 20:07

Evening. I have a milky bar dessert to aid my enjoyment this evening.

@qate totally agree on the expectation for this brief, maybe it had been there are too many good ideas that they've all stumbled over picking something. I do think the emphasis on the brief has fallen away in the kitchen rounds and then the judges get annoyed.

New Aussie masterchef judges. Melissa in particlular is a breath of fresh air, how she keeps her figure and makeup so great while eating is miraculous.

Mammy Potter re the hearts: "RARE?!?!?" Confused

OP posts:
jay55 · 07/05/2020 20:09

I'm pretty sure the chefs have not been told it's children's literature as the theme. They think it's any old book or story. And clearly kids at the banquet is a secret as hearts at all, let alone rare (I'm with mammy potter on that one) sounds insane.

PotterHead1985 · 07/05/2020 20:21

It does seem a lot of food for one course.

PotterHead1985 · 07/05/2020 20:23

Feck me the waterbath is broken now. This kitchen is fecked.

OP posts:
jay55 · 07/05/2020 20:24

Still mooing and all that, blimey.

PotterHead1985 · 07/05/2020 20:24

My thoughts

OP posts:
PotterHead1985 · 07/05/2020 20:26

And he is a tough judge

OP posts:
jay55 · 07/05/2020 20:30

He is tough. Can't believe that beef got a 9 though.
