I loved this show last year and was very excited to see a trailer yesterday that seemed to show series 2 was coming soon and was located in the Americas? But Googling it has revealed absolutely nothing! I thought I'd start this thread so that fellow fans have a place to comment when we have more info.

If it is the Americas, it will stop the contestants just copying last year's journeys, although I must admit I think the Europe/Asia route will prove more interesting as there's such a great variation in cultures as you travel east. But I don't know much about South America so looking forward to being wrong, and I'm sure it will be just as exciting as the last series. It'll be the people that make it - loved Darron and Alex from last year and their changing relationship/bond!

Enjoyed yesterday's episode and the change of "leaderboard".

theschoolonthehill · 23/03/2020 15:04

rob's been quite irritating in a quiet way

I can’t figure out if he is passive aggressive or very inconsiderate.

MaggieFS · 24/03/2020 13:34

Finally watched it., a much better episode than the previous week when I just couldn't keep up with who was where or how some ended up ahead of others. I don't find Jen annoying, I think they both have their good bits and annoying bits and have worked out how to get along with each other.

I did also find it very odd the mum took the bar job when it had disaster for her son written all over it.

I wonder when the budgets will start to affect the uncle and nephew? They did well.

purpleme12 · 25/03/2020 00:42

I've only watched episode 1 and 2 but I love the mum. All the other relationships seem a bit broken in different ways. And the brother and sister just seem to not like each other I don't know why they came on

MrsJamin · 25/03/2020 05:19

They came on to try and rekindle their friendship - although putting yourself through something that stressful is hard on an already strained relationship!

purpleme12 · 25/03/2020 07:16

Yes that's what I thought

Cocolapew · 25/03/2020 16:07

I do wish Jen would stop saying she's hasn't changed her pants in 4 days in practically every episode Confused

Bigoldwimp · 26/03/2020 14:07

I think Jen is a hoot. I like her. She has a good sense of humour and a lot of fun.

I hope I can be as loving as the mother, she’s wonderfully patient.

That rattle snake hotel gave me the willies. I’d like the night sky views if I could be elevated at least 9ft in the sky at all times

LolaDarkdestroyer · 27/03/2020 10:37

Love this program binged watched last series and funny how people grow on you! Wanted Darren and Alex to win though as I thought Elaine got shady and nasty towards the end. Seriously don't like Jen this series she isn't nice at all.
And uncle from the uncle/nephew is a lazy fuck! When he was cleaning the buses trying to cut corners.
Was glad they beat Jen and rob though as she was shady doing everything to leave them behind with the boat thing, yes it's a race but the other 2 teams played it different and were even polite up until knowing they had to go their separate ways.
Mum/son the mum is lovely and patient and son really loves her it's nice to watch.

purpleme12 · 28/03/2020 22:30

The mum is my kind of mum. She goes by instinct and not getting riled up because that would not bring about the results you want from the son. She knows the best way to parent him.

blackberrysoup · 29/03/2020 21:14

We're binge watching this tonight so please don't tell me if they have quit or are still going. Shuntelle is so irritating, I've no idea why she's gone on the show with how much she hates the idea of camping and hostels. I can't see their relationship lasting.

And yes, Jen and the knickers comments Hmm

MaggieFS · 29/03/2020 21:29

I've just got to the end of tonight's episode but don't think I'll be spoiling anything by what I say. I loved it, my favourite yet. I'm so pleased they (most) seem to be taking some time for sightseeing or work with a local slant to it. Also nice to see some humanity from them. Plus a good race 🙂

(Actually I bloody loved it, but I've been to lots of those places and bloody love them so I'm biased. DH is bored of me saying 'when I was in...')

blackberrysoup · 29/03/2020 21:47

We travel a lot (and are probably guilty of this ourselves) but we refer to people like that as 'When Is' Grin

When I was in Baffin Island.....I'll shut up now Grin

MaggieFS · 29/03/2020 21:58

@blackberrysoup I do try and keep myself in check amongst friends, but reckon DH is stuck with me (especially now!) so he has to listen. Or at least pretend to!

MaggieFS · 29/03/2020 22:02

Actually, other people like that, the 'When Is' bother me less than people who talk about 'doing places', for example, we've done New York and Washington, we'd like to do Boston next. Gets on my wick as if (ironically) it's a race when I wish people would stop and really look at the paces they visit. At the risk of sounding like an old fart on a soapbox, it's worse now as the internet allows for accurate planning without having to look up from your device, whereas an occasional missed bus or wrong turn can lead to some glorious experiences. I'll get my coat...

blackberrysoup · 29/03/2020 22:23

Yes, doing places does my head in, I colleague went to st Petersburg on a cruise, spent two days there and they have 'done Russia' 🙄

northender · 29/03/2020 23:10

I love this programme, but feel really uncomfortable watching Jen & Rob. In tonight's episode she could barely make eye contact with him and showed no real affection. The body language was horrible to watch.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 29/03/2020 23:21

I enjoyed tonight's too. Which couple are Jen and Rob? Are they the brother and sister? If so, I totally agree - he seemed very mean to her and the whole confidence discussion was so annoying - just bloody help her out, don't force her to do stuff she doesn't want to!

How did the mum and son do so well when they seemed to waste a lot of time with haircuts etc?

theschoolonthehill · 30/03/2020 01:24

How did the mum and son do so well when they seemed to waste a lot of time with haircuts etc?

They took a coach so better transport and travelled overnight. They spent the same time doing activities (sand surfing) and it doesn't take long to get a haircut. All at the expense of their budget though. I know the son has difficulties, but he is so petulant. There is no reasoning with him at all. You can tell the mother knows he will throw a strop if he's hungry, doesn't like things. I tend to give in a lot to my youngest child as her (over) reaction makes things harder for everyone but my youngest is very very young. I smiled when he told his mum that not every nineteen year old would travel with his mum and she nodded indulgently at him. I was thinking to myself the mother would reach every destination first, whilst seeing every tourist attraction and still be below budget if she was travelling on her own.

Jen and Rob are on rocky ground really. When he started talking about having a family, you could see how uncomfortable it made her. She claimed she didn't have a maternal bone in her body, then flipped over to when she has a family, then flipped again and said she kept postponing it until the following year. It is obvious she doesn't think their marriage is stable enough and/or she already has too much on her plate with the additional support she has to give Rob that she is reluctant to bring a child into the mix. While its not strange to travel to get to know each other again and salvage their relationship, it is odd to do it on national tv. I think they'll be ok by the end of the race. I hope so anyway.

Rainbow mountain was spectacular.

Next week Argentina. Really looking forward to it.

LIZS · 30/03/2020 13:55

I'm not optimistic about Jen and Rob, they don't seem to share the same future dreams. Rainbow mountain not so spectacular through mist.m

ACupOfCoffee · 30/03/2020 15:26

Not just "difficulties", but several invisible disabilities, including ADHD and Foetal Alcohol Syndrome, with symptoms that include learning difficulties – such as problems with thinking, speech, social skills, timekeeping, maths or memory and issues with attention, concentration or hyperactivity (info from NHS website). Its not something he can just outgrow, and I think he is doing extremely well.

theschoolonthehill · 30/03/2020 15:28

@Acupofcoffee - Ah I didn't realise all of that. He said he will be moving out of home when he returns to the UK. Is that feasible or would it be in a community/assisted living?

ACupOfCoffee · 30/03/2020 15:31

@theschoolonthehill I really don't know, I guess it depends on what he and his mum thinks he is capable of. I hope we get updates on how the contestants are doing once the series is over.

ACupOfCoffee · 30/03/2020 15:36

I'd never heard of the rainbow mountains, and they were indeed spectacular, but it made me feel very sad and uncomfortable that this natural wonder, only revealed because of climate change has now become a tourist destination, adding to the problem Sad

theschoolonthehill · 30/03/2020 17:41

I hope we get updates on how the contestants are doing once the series is over.

We never heard anything about the contestants in the last series. Unless the BBC have something on their website but they never made any sort of follow up for tv. I don't think the contestants are on it for 'fame', they don't come across like that at all. Thankfully.
