EH seems to have a holiday every 5 minutes

MiddleClassProblem · 25/07/2020 17:33

To be fair half their holidays are because the school has been closed because someone broken into the school, set fire to the school, tried to murder the entire school. But it’s a great school.

Yes, I agree with it being a teenage fantasy plot for Mackenzie but then that’s how most of their plots are. It’s multiple times we come on here saying work experience are in the writers rooms etc.

I’m still buoyed by the fact I can get a book published in less than a month 😂

SleepingStandingUp · 26/07/2020 00:43

OK can someone explain AUS school years?

In UK you start Sept in a new yr. Week off in Oct and then a few weeks over Xmas, week off in Feb then few weeks over Easter, week off in May then 6 weeks over August. Exams at 16 and 18 (Yr 11 and 13) are sat in that last stretch between Easter and Summer with results in the school holidays

I can never figure out in HÂ¥A esp as they don't put in all the seasonal stuff like Neighbours do to keep time

No. That's the school year in ENGLAND, not the UK. 😒
Starburst8 · 26/07/2020 14:12

Australia... Well Queensland have their 6 weeks (summer) just before Christmas. I think it could be start of Dec when they break up for holidays.

nameychange · 26/07/2020 16:57

I think the have a long summer holiday Dec/Jan. Then 2 weeks at Easter (April) 2 weeks end June then two week in sept/Oct . I know from trying to meet up with my brother (in oz) that sometime the Easter hols match and then 2 weeks at Christmas. But otherwise their school hols don’t line up with ours.

MiddleClassProblem · 26/07/2020 16:59

I know their school year starts end of January sort of time and ends mid December. I’m not sure how they split terms though...

SleepingStandingUp · 26/07/2020 17:47

Correct and sorry. Forgive me on merit of time of night?

Forgiven on merit of life with twin babies!

For their 18ths we should get them a tuba and a home brew kit...

So, I know the prison storyline is over for now, but how come visitors seem to be able to just pop in and out whenever they want? Don't they have set visiting hours, and visitors have to get a visiting order, and they are limited each month? (Obviously it's no less credible than any other part of Neighbours, but I did find that particularly unlikely.)

woodhill · 27/07/2020 07:46

It became like a drop in day centre in the end and didn't the prison used to be called Warrinor? - Which was quite a distance

EBearhug · 27/07/2020 09:46

Warrinor or Warratah?
But yes, it might as well have been part of Lassiters or the coffee shop.

MrsSteveMcDonald · 27/07/2020 19:45

Yes I think they've been really irresponsible with the glossing over of Mackenzie's castration. Promoting such drastic changes to the body when the brain is still maturing is so utterly wrong. It's giving out completely the wrong impression as most children that think they are trans turn out to be happy with their body and simply gay if they are allowed to go through a normal puberty.

Wasn't Warrinor prison the men's one?

Clawdy · 27/07/2020 20:09

Why does Emmett's new "friend" look about five years older than him??

Stellaris22 · 27/07/2020 20:12

It's hardly promoting it, more raising awareness. I do think the counselling etc should have been shown and the character coming to terms themselves with the decision. It's not an easy or overnight decision and I think maybe you don't understand the complexities and difficulties that trans people go through.

Stellaris22 · 27/07/2020 20:13

Also Mackenzie is 18, not going through puberty.

MrsSteveMcDonald · 27/07/2020 20:18

Going on puberty blockers takes away the ability to go through a healthy puberty which is essential for brain development. Neighbours have given the impression that there are no negative affects on the body which is irresponsible as the drugs have some really nasty side effects and teens are not able to make a decision to not have any sexual function for the rest of their lives

Stellaris22 · 27/07/2020 20:31

That's why I do think they should have shown the counselling etc that led to this decision, that's years of coming to terms with yourself and who you are. I personally think not being allowed access to these drugs can be extremely damaging to mental health. But it's a soap so they did the story very hastily, the negative reactions to raising awareness isn't very pleasant (but sadly expected on Mumsnet).

However this is simply going over a previous disagreement.

SecularPanic · 27/07/2020 20:34

I think it's the scriptwriters who don't understand the complexities, Stellaris22.

LIZS · 27/07/2020 20:45

Just started to watch after a looooong break (think days of Bouncer the dog , Madge and Harold ...) different cast , same storylines and sets! No idea who is who or related to who! Is the bad boy Stefan Dennis' rl son, Harlow being Jason Donovan's daughter I believe. Having fun working it out.

If these are the recent socially distanced scenes, why is it the long school holidays?

CurbsideProphet · 27/07/2020 21:42

@MrsSteveMcDonald I'm not really watching at the moment because the Mackenzie storyline is ruining it for me. They've shoehorned in the issue and I find the acting awful 😬

No Harlow is the daughter of the bad twin/triplet? of Paula that nearly killed a load of them in tears fine by. He had a fling with Denise Van Outen who lived. they England and Harlow came over to meet her father. DVO was fairly recently blown up by a bomb not aimed at her

I think LIZS meant irl? Harlow is Jason Donovan’s daughter irl (Stephanie McIntosh/Sky is her aunt and Terrance Donovan/Doug Willis is her grandfather) and new mean boy crashing the stone is Stefan Dennis/Paul’s irl son.

Oh God of course she did. If she was Scots she wouldn't be Paul's granddaughter. Sorry, I'm feeding Lou crumpets whilst I read MN. Harold is far asleep lucky thing!!
