I am not going to get chance to watch much more of this so this was a bit of a quick one...

Far too many 'reallys' in that post Grin

I think he'd already had surgery before 2013 iirc. He's had both wrists operated on and I'm sure he had at least one before that 2013 season, which was a great one for Delpo fangirls (he'd also won the Olympic bronze in London the previous year so he had a good run those few months.

Fizzywinegum · 26/01/2020 16:05

Oh dear that really is sad news about Delpo’s knee - his poor body has been through so much. I really miss watching him Sad

Raahh · 26/01/2020 16:08

Private I know, but it was 2014 when he started the lengthy injury break. Which was a shame, as he had built up such a good runSad.
And he should have made the Olympic final in 2012. Federer got lucky. Grin
I feel very sloth like this afternoon, btw. It has been a very long day.

And it is only 4pm!

Raahh · 26/01/2020 16:13

I've just realised that the Rafa match will be starting around 8-ish tomorrow, which means I will probably miss most of the beginning.

Which might be a good thing.Grin

Will Amazon Prme show the Rafa match?

Raahh · 26/01/2020 16:29

BGDI'm not sure- I haven't tried watching on Prime yet, so I am not sure what they are showing.

(It has been too much faff to find out!)

OP posts:
PrivateSpidey · 26/01/2020 17:14

I've not watched any of it on Prime either - I don't know if they have separate coverage or if it's just Eurosport player, tbh.

Raahh yes agreed 2014 was the start of the worst of it for Delpo for sure. But he missed most of 2010 as well I think - he didn't defend his US Open title anyway.

But yes the upshot is he's had loads of injuries and surgeries.

I think he did Murray a favour in both the Olympics and Wimbledon, wearing out his opponents before the finals Wink

Right, I promise I'll stop going on about him now maybe
Grin

PrivateSpidey · 26/01/2020 17:16

I'll miss the start of the Rafa match tomorrow as well.

Do you think Frew will be commentating?!

Raahh · 26/01/2020 17:19

Private Grin

Delpo is possibly the player who has lost out the most through injuries over the years, definitely. He would have split the slams between the others, certainly , if fit.

I also think, to a lesser extent, Raonic is one who was on his way up- and then got to the start of 2017 and hasn't been the same since. In 2016, he was just the odd point here and there from winning big. Usually against Murray Grin.

He is only (just) 29, so there is time. But he is so prone to injury.

OP posts:
PrivateSpidey · 26/01/2020 17:21

I have also been sloth like today Grin

I did have good intentions but the weather put a stop to that.

I have watched Back to the Future 3 though (again). We were laughing at the bit where the Doc has "wake up juice" Grin after a heavy night on the booze.

I permanently feel like I need a shot of wake up juice tbh Hmm

tobee · 26/01/2020 17:22

Has anyone seen the after matches chat with Barbara Schett and Mats Wilander called Game, Schett and Mats? They must have had the afternoon off after coming up with that title!!! GrinGrinGrin

Raahh · 26/01/2020 17:27

Oh, if Frew is commentating, I will throw things.

But it will be .You just know it.

OP posts:
PrivateSpidey · 26/01/2020 17:27

Yes Milos had those 3 really close matches v Murray didn't he: Aus Open (semifinal?), Queens final, Wimbledon final. He was unlucky not to win at least one of them, definitely.

He's been playing well and I really hope he can do well against Djok... but it's not a good match up for him is it. But stranger things have happened I suppose. Maybe.

Raahh · 26/01/2020 17:33

The ATP finals semi final was also really close too, iirc. He could have changed a lot of things if he had won that- and if he hadn't have pulled out of Rome- Murray wouldn't have got to number 1 when he did.

Andy owes him Grin.

OP posts:
PrivateSpidey · 26/01/2020 17:35

tobee it must have been too much of a good pun to pass up Grin

Raahh · 26/01/2020 17:36

Not Rome- Paris.

He pulled out before the final, didn't he?

OP posts:
PrivateSpidey · 26/01/2020 17:37

Oh yes Raahh I forgot about the ATP finals as a well!

Btw does anyone think Stan will beat Medvedev tomorrow?? They played in New York didn't they (which didn't end well for Stan).
Bear

Raahh · 26/01/2020 17:41

Oh, yes, StanBear playing Medvedev! I am not sure how that will go.
Bit torn on the result really. I suppose I would like to win it- he might not get many more chances.

OP posts:
PrivateSpidey · 26/01/2020 17:43

Just looking at the matches for tomorrow - other than Rafa I mean - Halep v Mertens. Could be a banana skin for Simona??

Also Zverev v Rublev - another banana skin, but for Sascha possibly?

Thiem's also still in there, I keep forgetting about him (sorry Domi), probably because he keeps playing in the middle of the night Hmm.

Raahh · 26/01/2020 17:54

Rublev is a dark horse, he was starting to play very well towards the end of last year. Might very well be a sticky one for Sascha.

I always worry about Halep- matches I think she ought to win easily, she has a habit of losing, and Mertens could be a problem.

All to play for as they say.

And yes- that Thiem. People are always forgetting about him, aren't they ? Grin

OP posts:
PrivateSpidey · 26/01/2020 17:57

Grin oh yeah Grin
Who is he again?!

Fizzywinegum · 26/01/2020 18:24

Poor Thiem - I did see a clip of him the other day - he’s still rocking the frosted look with his hair Hmm. He got rid of his coach Thomas Muster after he’d been in post for about a week which is a bit weird in the middle of a GS.

I don’t think Amazon are showing the matches on their main site (I thought they had all the tennis tournaments now - apart from Wimbledon). I’ve not tried the Eurosport Player thing.

It probably will be Frew tomorrow - they don’t seem to have any other commentators - maybe they should see if a certain AC is available. I would just like to hear someone who’s not stuck in the past, has something reasonably interesting and intelligent to say and is not biased!

Stan v Medvedev could be interesting

BGD2012 · 26/01/2020 18:35

Sorry I'm new to this thread. Who is Frew?

JaneJeffer · 26/01/2020 18:38

Frew McMillan is commentating in Eurosport. He's a former doubles player from South Africa and boring and biased as hell.
