It’s back! Anyone else love this show?

What made me laugh was Nicki’s quizzical look and comment about it being unorthodox when she was asked to be present when the news of the body being found was given to Jason’s parents. Like it’s something she’s never even considered before let alone actually done similar ONE MILLION TIMES.

I found the last two-parter particularly distasteful - it sent shivers down my spine when the 'perp' welcomed his two grandchildren with open arms, having just hidden the drugged boy away.

Also, the granddad/perp didn't feature in the first episode at all? It's not normal for Silent Witness to big reveal a main suspect 2/3 of the way through the second part, is it?

No, he didn't really feature - none of the things that lead to him did (motor homes etc). They did show him right at the end of the first episode to show that it was another person who had done it but you didn't see his face or anything like that, just legs, the pick up and a toolbox.

Back on tonight.

Have to say I'm on a total binge of past series and have a unhealthy crush on Jack.

Violent Shitness is going to be my new term for it Grin

It’s always Witless Silence here, after the French and Saunders’ sketch.

It’s now Violent Shitness in this house.
This is quite gripping.

That was a sad one this eve. Was the judge who was telling the mum she had to, well, basically lie to her kids that they were safe to see their dad, the guy who was in the men only private members club?

Yes I agree re the domestic violence theme, so many sad stories in o e episode. And yes the judge was Harry's former prefect buddy.

As to whodunnit, my money is on Patricia from Brookside doing for the husband but in fact it will turn out to be Mr Patricia who killed his daughter.

Not Harry - whatever the boss's name is now 🤦‍♀️

Where do the gay couple fit in?

Report
Equanimitas · 21/01/2020 08:36

I take it the gay couple is there to show that domestic violence isn't restricted to straight couples.

They don't usually have characters that don't have some relevance to the crime though do they?

Report
lastqueenofscotland · 21/01/2020 09:59

I think it was the dad who killed them both.

I think the dad killed the husband because he thought he had killed his daughter but someone else killed her. Probably someone we haven't seen yet!

I found this episode quite upsetting, but thought they had done some research on issues around domestic violence. Wasn't too sure about it having to be hijacked by Nikki being given the opportunity to become all reflective and personally involved. (Although that is always a theme in every episode.) And agree they had the lesbian couple to show it isn't just men.

I think the mother of the murdered woman killed her son in law not just for the violence towards he daughter but her sense of guilt that she allowed her own experience of domestic violence to normalise it for her daughter.

I thought bringing in Jack as some sort of architypal neaderthal male who also happens to be a scientist a bit sad. Like unless there is an "action man" around people want watch. Some of his scenes are what make it ridiculous. I am glad Clarissa pointed out how stupid he looked with his boxing!

I don't think everything has to be directly relevant to the crime. The point here is that the characters are connected through the refuge - I suspect the black lady who was attacked by her partner is also not directly relevant, but who knows.

We thought it was the (gran)dad as soon as he walked into the room with a lit cigarette straight after Nicky had noted the cigarette burns in the post mortem.

Can someone tell me who actually killed the original woman found on the train tracks. Was it her abusive husband?

The ending was like an episode of Scooby Doo!
