It’s back! Anyone else love this show?

I think it must have been the husband that killed the original woman as I can't see how Mad Woman could possibly have framed him for it. Plus, all her victims were men. The only other possibility was the father but I assume he was right handed given how often they focussed on the husband being left handed and that the assailant was left handed. I don't see how anyone other than the husband could have got his wife into the storage locker either.

None of it was spelt out though.

Do we know how the murderer knew that the judge was at the club?

Report
MyEnormousTurnip · 23/01/2020 08:04

She followed him from the family court didn’t she?

Report
SoupDragon · 23/01/2020 08:07

I thought she followed him too.

Don’t see the episodes as victory for MRAs every single man who didn’t work for the police or with Nikki was absolutely awful!

MrsGolightyly · 23/01/2020 08:39

@HeIenaDove

Mrs Golightly i was surprised at that too. MRAs on twitter are loving it.

I bet they are! The storyline didn’t do anything for women. It showed women as passive/aggressive. Instead of challenging that senior police officer Nikki and Clarissa made sarcastic comments to the rest of the team!

As for the woman portrayed as a murderer, she would never have acted like that when you see how much she loved her little girls.

Whoever dreamed up this storyline is utterly ignorant!

@MsTSwift

Yes but despite their awfulness, they appeared to get away with their behaviour.

I suspect the implication they are taking from it is that women are lying psycho bitches. It was never made clear that the murdering woman was actually abused by her husband was is? I got the impression that she could be viewed as someone lying to keep her ex from seeing his children, all proved by the fact that she was a murderering psycho bitch...

That's what made it an uncomfortable choice of plots for me. Women have enough trouble proving stuff and this doesn't help.

The father was left handed. Jenny's mother (Cat's grandmother) had a black eye on the same side as Jenny. Plus there was something else that made me notice when they were in the living room talking. Wasn't mentioned though.

It was an MRA's dream. Jenny was important, no need to find out who killed her. A mad woman lying about her husband. 'Gentlemen' clubbing together to rise up against the threat of other people having equality. Nasty lesbian woman. (In fact, another thing, who killed the drug dealer?)

It had the great possibility of being about domestic violence and disablism.

Only person who seemed to object was Thomas.

Oh and only person held accountable was 'crazy, lying ex-wife'.

Violent Shitness - perfect!!

Dh and I watched the first of this week's episodes last night, but didn't have time to watch both, so I don't know yet whodunnit.

I am slightly baffled as to why someone supposedly as intelligent as Nikki hadn't clicked up to now that her mum was being abused. It's almost as if the writers invented that bit of her back story just for this episode... Grin

Has Thomas ever previously shown any interest in a political career? It felt like that came out of precisely nowhere.

Report
Squigean · 23/01/2020 10:50

Looked it up: writer is a man (Timothy Prager) and producer a woman (Kate Saxon).

@Squigean - Tina killed the drug dealer. They saw her leaving the refuge on CCTV wearing a dark hoodie which she then planted (l assumed) in Jade's wardrobe to frame her

MrsGolightyly · 23/01/2020 11:20

Yes, a programme highlighting how many women are abused and murdered by their partner's and then showing a woman as a lying psycho bitch was a joke.

Report
MyEnormousTurnip · 23/01/2020 12:18

How would Tina have not left any trace of dna or whatever on that black hoodie? Usually Jack has sniffed out a microscopic fibre that solves the entire crime.

I thought the part where she’s running from Jack at the end and shouts “help me” to the people standing around is to make us think she’s playing the victim all along and the husband is innocent?

The whole ending was confusing.

I also Hmm at the coy glance under the cloth that Nicky gave the first body and then wrote down that she showed signs of forced penetration. Thorough.

At least there’s not been any naked corpse breasts on show yet this series unless I’ve missed them.

I felt really guilty about thinking that Tina was not abused by her husband and this was perhaps all an act.

Report
HeIenaDove · 24/01/2020 14:07

Or she was abused and it tipped her over the edge

I've just caught up with this and had to see if there was a thread I was quite enraged by this weeks episodes!

I should stop watching it really as it has got so silly with the boundary overstepping and ridiculous reach the forensic people have. But this week gave such a frightening fictitious view of domestic violence and social services and refuge help that I feel I should bloody complain to the BBC as it would surely not help anyone in that situation.

TheTruthAboutLove · 24/01/2020 22:31

Action Man Jack really is the worst character and worst replacement for Harry ever.

Air crash? Yep he’s an investigator. Domestic violence? He can tell you what every bruise is. House search? He can do it all, even without any gloves! He’s a forensic examiner who apparently can do anything. Clarissa serves no purpose whatsoever in the show other than to fill disability quota levels, and IT issues in the Lyell.

The storylines are getting more and more ridiculous. Nikki lived in SA till she was a teenager, the flashbacks of her aged 7/8 were clearly in the UK, she had a reunion with her father who was in prison for fraud and there was zero mention of domestic abuse. Just rewriting history of Nikki to fit the narrative, which was weird as the episode didn’t even need that.

But Jack, god, Action Man Jack is so bad it’s funny.

After Episode 1 went out but before episode 2 did i mentioned it to an MNer on another thread who has been through similar re. family courts. I now wish id bloody waited until Ep 2 had gone out. Lesson learned.

@lazymum99 i thought Tinas ex was going to murder the kids in revenge? I thought thats where it was going.

Incidentally the Victoria Derbyshire show did an item on family courts yesterday (Friday)
