Anyone tuning in tonight? I'm quite excited!

I suppose Dracula doesn't need to kill everybody who sees him, Mina wasn't likely to tell anyone (or be believed) and she wasn't useful to him so he wasn't bothered about her getting away.

ladyflower23 · 02/01/2020 22:57

The ending blew my mind! I was as confused as him when the helicopter searchlight came on 😂 I can't wait till tomorrow to find out what the Neil's going on!! Dolly Wells would make a good Dr Who!

ladyflower23 · 02/01/2020 22:59

I mean what the hell's going 😂

Thewindsofchange · 02/01/2020 23:01

But how did Agatha get out of the water so much quicker than him?

And where's he going to sleep without his soil?

Too many questions.....

bilbodog · 02/01/2020 23:02

Loving it too!

AriadneAufNaxos · 02/01/2020 23:02

But I’m sure Marius is undead too. He had a scarf tied round his neck and there’s no way Dracula would have let him get away

I don't think so. I think Piotr/Marius and Viktor (?) did get away in the life boat.

Mammyloveswine · 02/01/2020 23:06

Eeeh what a shock of an ending?

Also... love Whitby glad it's getting its glory!

Roll on tomorrow!

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 02/01/2020 23:06

Jonathan Harker turned into a vampire, but he hadn't killed anyone/drunk their blood I don't think.

CaveMum · 02/01/2020 23:06

If you’ve never watched the Buffy vs Dracula episode I highly recommend it. I’ve been reminding myself of some of the fantastic lines mocking the Dracula myth this evening 😂

SisterAgathaVonHelsing · 02/01/2020 23:07

I thought the way they lingered over the name 'Marius' indicates he will have a part to play in part 3.

HeIenaDove · 02/01/2020 23:19

I liked it As Gatiss is such a fan of Hammer i think the policewoman is a descendent of Sister Agathas

Hammer did this with Peter Cushing"s Van Helsing He played the character in several Hammer Dracula films and then Van Helsings descendent in Dracula AD 1972 which was obvs set in the then present day.

HeIenaDove · 02/01/2020 23:20

A forgotten Dracula film from 1979 Has quite the cast.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dracula_(1979_film)

Frank Langella as Count Dracula
Laurence Olivier as Professor Abraham Van Helsing
Donald Pleasence as Dr. Jack Seward
Kate Nelligan as Lucy Seward
Trevor Eve as Jonathan Harker
Jan Francis as Mina Van Helsing
Sylvester McCoy as Walter Myrtle
Janine Duvitski as Annie
Tony Haygarth as Milo Renfield
Teddy Turner as Swales

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/01/2020 23:27

Would a nun have a descendent? I suppose she might've been married before taking the veil.

HeIenaDove · 02/01/2020 23:27

Ah but its already been shown she is not a conventional nun!

Looks like some of the filming took place at Bray Studios.

Medievalist · 03/01/2020 00:52

If Agatha's a vampire, why doesn't she need blood from others?

AriadneAufNaxos · 03/01/2020 03:20

@AutumnRose1

Can't remember if it's the Small Hand, I think it is. I read that but it was such a long time ago, I can't remember much about it

I can't remember much about the book either but I think this is inspired by rather than an adaptation. I've just watched it- it's very dark.

CaveMum · 03/01/2020 08:07

@Medievalist if they follow other vampire stories then the only requirement is for blood of some description - not necessarily human, animal will do.

woodhill · 03/01/2020 08:10

There was a headless white bird on deck on the last morning of the voyage I think

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 03/01/2020 08:21

I preferred this episode to the one before. Although I did spend a good amount of time not looking at the screen (especially when the guy with the broken leg was on the table receiving what passed for medical attention!)

WRT police woman being .agatha's descendent, didntshe say something about a loveless marriage" in the first episode? I assumed she was talking about her marriage to the god she wasn't sure she believed in rather than an actual marriage but I guess not.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 03/01/2020 08:22

I think it is actually Agatha though. How would a descendent know about Dracula on the boat unless she told them?

HandsOffMyRights · 03/01/2020 08:38

I think it's Agatha too.

xsquared · 03/01/2020 08:48

The ones who made it on land will have told the story of Dracula, as they did on the lifeboat, to honour the ones who sank with the ship.

I'm not sure it's Agatha as she looks a bit too healthy to be undead, in comparison to Jonathan. She may have succumbed to being a vampire or it could be a descendant. I really don't know!

Clawdy · 03/01/2020 09:00

The chess game explanation should have been made clearer, I'd no idea it was a dream till I checked in here.
