She did explicitly say that he makes his victims dream, when she was having a flashback to when Dracula took her.

Clawdy · 03/01/2020 09:31

I know, but there was nothing in the quite lengthy chess sequences that felt anything like the other victims' dream scenes.

dementedma · 03/01/2020 09:35

How did the Count regenerate in his watery coffin with nothing to eat? Wouldn't he have emerged as an old man, as in the first episode? ( I dont know why I am questioning this, given that I'm completely cool with him being able to walk to England under water!)

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/01/2020 09:41

Wasn't he in a coffin full of earth? Does earth from his homeland have the same degenerative qualities as blood?

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 03/01/2020 09:41

How did she know he was going to resurface in exactly the time and spot? Surely they didn't have a dedicated task force loitering there 27/4 for most of a century.

The longer the chess game went on and the way the conversation was going I knew Agatha was dreaming. The whole thing was set up to show Agatha realising what had happened to her in the same way the viewer worked out the plot.

CaveMum · 03/01/2020 09:53

My take on the chess dream sequence is that Dracula makes his victims dream about something they enjoy to keep them subdued - hence most of them having sex dreams. Agatha however is “better” than that, her ideal stimulation is of the intellectual kind, therefore a chess game and discussion/interrogation with Dracula fits.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 03/01/2020 10:01

The ones who made it on land will have told the story of Dracula, as they did on the lifeboat, to honour the ones who sank with the ship.

They didn't know what happened on the ship or that he was expect d to come back. They also didn't know enough about Agatha to track down a descendent and tell them.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 03/01/2020 10:02

What happened on the ship with just the captain, Agatha and Dracula that is.

SisterAgathaVonHelsing · 03/01/2020 10:24

Was just going to say the same thing Dementedma. Not complaining though Grin.

MsMiaWallace · 03/01/2020 10:49

Agatha really got on my nerves last night though!

IcedPurple · 03/01/2020 10:55

I find her faux Dutch accent to be very annoying, though I guess I can see the sense of casting a British rather than Dutch actress if she's going to be playing a British police officer (?) in the 3rd episode.

SuePerb · 03/01/2020 10:55

I also googled the actor! He's very good looking!

I'm going to persuade DP to grow his beard I think because then he'll look just like him

I was unsure about how Dracula managed to find his coffin full of soil. Because the lid was off and the ship blew up and the soil managed to survive? But as you say, there are more unlikely things happening in this programme...

Looking forward to tonight!

MsMiaWallace · 03/01/2020 11:06

I wonder if he's shipped some soil separate to the Demetors batch to London?
Otherwise he's lost it all at sea.

Piggywaspushed · 03/01/2020 11:06

Clice Bang.

My DF had a student called Claes years ago and Bang is as in Bang and Olufson (sp?)

I've just added "The Square" to my list on Netflix. Claes Bang is in it. Anyone seen it?

No Marius in the cast list for tonights episode. I won't list who is in it in case of spoilers.

Did anyone watch the Affair season 5 ?

Shame it's only three programmes I found this more watchable than Christmas "Peaky" Carol.

Clawdy · 03/01/2020 13:22

Isn't each episode a sort of separate adventure? So the sailors presumably won't feature in tonight's.

woodhill · 03/01/2020 13:38

Dementia - agree about his age and not being old again

Walking under water - maybe he got tips from the Man from AtlantisGrin

woodhill · 03/01/2020 13:39

@dementedma - I mean

MsMiaWallace · 03/01/2020 13:40

Yes saw him in the Affair playing Sasha.

Didn't particular like his character in that. I may go watch it again now though! Especially as there's sexy scenes!! Lol

xsquared · 03/01/2020 16:56

@DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn
But I thought the way they mentioned that they'll tell the story was a significant bit of detail. I didn't say that they'll tell people what transpired between teraining survivors, just "the story" whatever that may be.
As I said, l still can't make up my mind about whether it's Agatha or her descendent or even a reincarnation. I think it will probably make more sense of it being Agatha herself. If she has become a bride of Dracula, then she will sense his presence and hence her timely welcome. Just my theory.
