Anything and everything American, including ALL Disney.

If it wasn't Time Team or University Challenge the TV didn't go on.

Dazedandconfused10 · 22/12/2019 21:39

Wasn't allowed to watch power rangers....but wrestling (back in 90s when it was much less tame) absolutely fine!

Igottastartthinkingbee · 22/12/2019 21:40

Anything on ITV 🤷‍♀️

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/12/2019 21:40

I was terrified of Scooby Doo!

Grange Hill
Black Adder
ITV ( it was common apparently)

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 22/12/2019 21:43

ITV generally but especially gladiators.

whiteroseredrose · 22/12/2019 21:44

Also ITV.

m00rfarm · 22/12/2019 21:44

Magpie. I was allowed to watch blue peter.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/12/2019 21:44

What was wrong with itv, seems to be a thing?!

VanyaHargreeves · 22/12/2019 21:45

Certain other Mums disapproved of our Mum for letting us watch the extremely tame back then, Aussie Soaps.

PorridgeAgainAbney · 22/12/2019 21:46

Yep, ITV was common in our house too.
Grange Hill in the early days. Was allowed it from around the time of Zammo though.
Top of the Pops - "what a load of dirge" Grin.
That's Life with Esther Rantzen.
Something that had Henry Kelly and a woman with blond hair who I think went on to do a Radio 2 show. No idea what it was but my parents thought it was too crap.

Faircastle · 22/12/2019 21:48

I wasn't allowed to watch Grange Hill (in case I was influenced by the behaviour of the characters). When I became a little older, EastEnders was considered unsuitable for similar reasons.

ITV was not banned outright but was definitely frowned upon (possibly due to the commercials?). Channel 4 was too newfangled to be trusted.

What I was allowed to watch:
Newsround and Blue Peter.
Songs of Praise.
Doctor Who.
Sitcoms such as Are You Being Served, Hi-De-Hi, To the Manor Born etc.

dannydyerismydad · 22/12/2019 21:48

Grange Hill

Why don't you - too many children with "regional accents"

Faircastle · 22/12/2019 21:51

I feel quite reassured that others weren't allowed to watch Grange Hill and ITV. I haven't met anyone else in real life who experienced this, and when I occasionally mention it, people think I'm joking.

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 22/12/2019 21:52

Timmy Mallet. My parents thought it was “moronic” which, looking back, was fair.

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 22/12/2019 21:53

My mum was pretty lax (allowed me to watch Blackadder and Ben Elton when I was far too young for that sort of thing) but she had this loathing of Neighbours because it was "all about sex". I only really got to see it when I was away at uni, and was surprised at how unsexy it generally was!

ChachiChichi · 22/12/2019 21:54

I was banned from Brookside! Mum said it was 'rum'.

Dhalandchips · 22/12/2019 21:56

Tiswas. And itv. My dad was a snob.

overnightangel · 22/12/2019 21:56

We were only allowed bbc kids telly (late 80s/early 90s), no itv... except when my best friend came to tea cos he used to only watch citv at home . Can only imagine the carnage with Netflix/streaming/catch up tv etc when 2 channels caused such consternation 30 years ago!

Moominfan · 22/12/2019 21:56

My gran hated the Simpson's

BodenGate · 22/12/2019 21:57

ITV and Brookside here too!

GonnaBeMaayy · 22/12/2019 21:57

Singled Out.

My dad threatened to remove the tv if I was caught watching it

isabellerossignol · 22/12/2019 21:58

Something that had Henry Kelly and a woman with blond hair who I think went on to do a Radio 2 show. No idea what it was but my parents thought it was too crap.

Was it Game for a Laugh? Had Jeremy Beadle and Matthew Kelly too. What a lineup Grin Your parents were right though, it was terrible.

Bananalanacake · 22/12/2019 21:58

Eurotrash when I was 17.

HettyStThomas · 22/12/2019 21:59

Dumbo, Fox and hound and Animals of farthing wood. Anything remotely related to animal suffering or animal rights.

Beamur · 22/12/2019 21:59

The Young ones
Anything with Rowan Atkinson in it.
