Tennis thread: looking forward to the new season

While we dream up our Australian Open advent calendar, the chat continues!

Anyway. I am looking forward to the tennis starting, as I feel gloomy. I hate my birthday (yesterday - although we had a nice meal out, though we spent it mainly being gloomiy and talking about sad things, and hoe rubbish the year has been), and I loathe New Year, and I feel teary and rubbish, so I just want to watch Rafa beating everyone and biting trophies and that will make me feel happier.

Then I won;t have to think about school runs and uniforms and boring stuff, and the fact 2020 will bring more of the same old same old.

Unless I win the lottery.

Which I won't because I didn't buy a ticket.

But I'm watching 'Spartacus'. After crap Christmas films, and ancient musicals, Biblical stylee epics are my favourite film genre.

Am also looking forward to tennis starting - even though I won't see any of it until French Open (as long as C4 still have it).

I saw a picture of Feli and he was looking quite the fox . Rafa’s hair was looking a bit wayward

I saw a picture of Kyrgios and it just made me cross - I also wish he would go away!

I’m just watching The Holiday - it is a load of nonsense (and goes on forever!) but I do quite like it.

Thought I would do a tennis wish list for 2020:

Serena to win the Australian Open. I would genuinely love this. Just as they're celebrating 50 years since Margaret Court won the calendar Grand Slam, that would suit very nicely.

Fangirl alert Rafa to win the men's title in Melbourne - then he'll have 2 of each Slam. He can win RG as well and hold the Slam record.

Stan to win Wimbledon I did say it was a wish list.

Halep to defend her Wimbledon title.

Delpo magnificent return from injury, wins US Open title.

Keith to win a medal in Tokyo.

And most importantly, lots of funny talking points and candidates for What Happened Next?... (if it still existed that is), like luging under the net etc.

Tweeners to be banned for being over-rated and irritating

I also want a "youngster" to win a Slam on the men's side... but they might have to wait another year while all my other predictions come true

Private yes, I saw Margaret was up to her usual tricks and Melbourne are planning to honour her next month. I'm no fan of Serena, but I want Margaret bumped down the record lists.

I still really want Rafa to be the one to hold 2 of each slam in the open era. I think it is looking unlikely to be Djok or Fed, as they would have to win RG to do it. If Rafa doesn't win RG, it won't be one of them, I don't think.

I would love Stan to win Wimbledon.

Or Rafa.

Basically- my wish list, is a Rafa calendar slam. And a gold medal, and the tour final.

He can retire then, and have half a dozen kids.

I saw he posted a wedding photo on IG today (just to remind any commentators who'd forgotten he was married ) - not sure if it was new - newly public I mean, I hadn't seen it before.

He was interviewed on the Radio 2 news yesterday re Dulwich and Winchester colleges turning down busaries. He received a bursary to attend wherever he went, which apparently made him become the British no 1 tennis player ffs It would seem that this means he is competent to comment on the news story

DH is watching some black and white film about D Day, with actors such as Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum, a young Sean Connery and the bloke who played Blofeld (no Mr Bond, I expect you to die)

It's certainly going on forever and is very noisy

I was prepping dinner at the time private and was most offended. I la la'ed loudly so I didn't have to hear him waffle, then turned to DH and said I must tell the tennis MNers

I'm just having a very un-partylike peppermint tea (have had a few g and ts up to this point) and then going to bed, so if he could come and clear it all up before I get up tomorrow, that would be excellent.

Hope everyone had a good night last night - I think I fell asleep just before midnight and was woken up by the fireworks - teenage DS is still asleep!

I was awake half the night. DH has manflu and kept waking me with his cough. I ended up getting up and going on MN for a while.
