I've just realised something whilst reading Monkseal. I thought there was something wrong with Chris and Karen's VT at the time and couldn't quite work out what, but now I realise!

They went to see the Illuminations, which is a lovely thing to do in Blackpool, except they finished a fortnight ago.

So they did. They finished on the 3rd. Barely looked like Vegas for Michelle then. I managed to catch them at half term. My kids loved them. We had such a good laugh - as the tableaux lumies still have dancers with coconut bras and another with a tomahawk dance where they look like they are hitting each other on the arse. Much mirth was had. We were very immature. I swear the nursery rhyme tableaux were around 1977. The trams were pretty chocca when we were there. I wonder when Chris and Karen were there then. And whether Kelvis went to Bispham Chippy.

Another one here delighted that Michell is OUT!

Her dance was crap. I don’t care about its historical context. Strictly offers an incredibly positive, inclusive approach to the gay dancers and artists who have been an integral part of the show for 17 years.

Yes, I think Michelle missed that SCD is as camp as a row of tents, and has always had openly gay dancers and judges. Ok, they could have been quicker about allowing two men to dance together, but it's very gay positive, and I don't think generally it's a show for homophobes.

I was 14 when the Madonna song Vogue came out and the origins of it were explained at the time.

I assumed that they briefly switched the illuminations on to film that VT. They don't take them down each year so they would only need to flick some switches. Same way that the Pleasure Beach is shut for winter but they obviously opened that up specially.

Can we move on from Michelle now? Comments about ignorant Americans and others suggesting a wide eyed ignorance of bisexuality are making me uncomfortable and I can't be the only one. She may have deserved to go on dance grounds but I am afraid some people's comments prove correct the discussion being had a few weeks ago about the British not liking female Americans which was dismissed at the time. I am also not comfortable about non gay people speaking on behalf of the gay community. I have sat on my hands for a couple of pages.

I am happier discussing dancing and bats.

People aren't talking about "ignorant americans" they are talking about one specific one who is showing her ignorance and insulting the U.K. public.

In the true and correct meaning of the word, she is ‘ignorant’. She’s made assumptions about the UK viewers and they are wrong. Her emotional incontinence on ITT was ridiculous.
I’ve seen more measured emotional reactions from holocaust survivors.

TBH Piggy Michelle has started this by saying we didn’t get the message, blah, blah. No we just thought it was a shit dance. Strictly is inclusive & always has been. Yes it’s also a popularity contest but at the end it’s usually the best or one of the best that wins.

soup the term ignorant American was used. You attach an adjective to a nationality and it suggests you think it's a national trait. As someone who is American by birthright , I found that offensive.

Michelle is bisexual , hence my comment. You are right, I do not know who is gay : it is fairly obvious,however, when people reference their gay friends, that they aren't themselves gay.

Being gay and being bisexual are different. I see gay as a euphemism for homosexuality. Also MV in her tweet say "What we did tonight we did for you. I will always support you" referring to the LGBT coommunity I presume. If she felt she was in that community then surely she would have said "us" not "you".
I have had sexual attractions to women but as a married largely heterosexual woman I don't regard myself as part of the LGBT "community". Maybe MV feels the same. Many people particularly women aren't exclusively heterosexual. That doesn't make you automatically part of a marginalised community though.

You're probably right and they just turned bits of the lights back on for them. It was nice to see one of the heritage trams.

For what it's worth, I agree @Piggywaspushed, have been reading with increasing discomfort. Hopefully it will die down in time for next week's episode.

I'm bloody glad MV has gone because I don't like aggressively competitive slebs in what to me is a light entertainment show.

I also don't want to see sexuality made into a campaigning issue on a light entertainment show which is watched by the very youngest and oldest viewers. I would much rather see inclusivity demonstrated through action as it has been since the revamped show began. Same sex partnerships are long overdue but hopefully we will see them soon.

There are plenty of other places where MV can do her thing, SCD wasn't it. Boo to the producers, they dropped the ball on this one.
