It's not quite time to don your woolly jumpers or stoke up your log fires for the winter - still some tennis to be played this season!

An exciting, mathematically challenging WTFs continues, new Davis Cup soon, etc...

You're a bad influence Fizzy Grin

Fizzywinegum · 20/11/2019 22:47

I know Private - don’t want to turn this into The crown thread but I was surprised that people weren’t aware of Aberfan - it happened before I was born but I still knew about (not sure how really but I’ve always been aware of it)

JaneJeffer · 20/11/2019 22:53

I remember reading about Aberfan when I was a child - maybe in Reader's Digest. Terrifying.

magimedi · 21/11/2019 07:51

I remember Aberfan happening - I was a child. Very very frightening & so tragic.

On a lighter note, when de-cluttering your motto should be: "If in doubt - chuck it out".

This morning I am going to set up my new desktop computer & Windows 10. Had the current 'puter for 10+ years & it's reached the end of its life.

I may be some time................. Grin

PrivateSpidey · 21/11/2019 08:07

Good luck with the technology magi!!

I admire your approach to decluttering. I'm hopeless at throwing stuff out.

14 moves in 25 years is what helped, Private!!!

magimedi · 21/11/2019 08:57

Pressed post to soon ..

And clearing my parents' house & in laws' after their deaths. It's only things - I'd give them all up to have the people back again.

JaneJeffer · 21/11/2019 09:34

That's a lot of moving magi.

There's very few things I get attached to but it's sorting that makes it hard and disposing of things in an environmentally friendly way.

Good luck with Microsoft (you'll need it!)

magimedi · 21/11/2019 12:22

Boast alert!

Am sending this from new computer. Internet working, ad blocker installed, anti virus installed. Bookmarks reset on Firefox - the trickiest bit.

Have not set up printer yet - but am feeling a bit smug!!

PrivateSpidey · 21/11/2019 12:44

Congrats magi!! Well done.

That is a lot of moving. When we moved earlier this year we had a massive clear out, and yet we already seem to have accumulated loads of stuff Hmm

Well done magi

Raahh · 21/11/2019 13:43

Well done magi!!

I dread ever having to move. We have a lot of stuff. I am terrible at throwing things away. Our biggest problem is books. We have books everywhere- and I am a luddite, so a kindle just never cut it.

Before dd1 was born (so over 13 years now) we cleared the loft. It's worse than ever up there now. Dh likes to keep boxes 'just in case'. We have boxes for things (like pcs or tvs) that long ago met their maker. But we still have the boxes Hmm.

I have a dh problem.

PrivateSpidey · 21/11/2019 14:10

Grin well you never know when they might come in handy (boxes I mean, not DHs - although them as well). When we moved we realised basically the day before that we didn't have enough boxes, and our lovely NDN appeared with approx 20-30 smallish boxes (lots of wine and spirits boxes, to be fair Grin) that were perfect for books etc. She said she'd been using them to insulate the loft!! PS Raahh have you seen the Christmas Hallmark movie thread on the films board?!

OP posts:
Raahh · 21/11/2019 14:16

Private ooh, no!

I have watched the same film about 3 times this week, I'm sure. Grin

Raahh · 21/11/2019 14:18

Ooh- just turned over from Doctors, and Bublik has won.

Raahh · 22/11/2019 10:02

I just turned the tennis on, to hear that RBA's dad passed away a couple of days ago- his mum died just before RG last year. It's very sad for him.

PrivateSpidey · 22/11/2019 12:24

Raahh it's awful isn't it? Poor guy.

Have just seen Johnny Mac on a billboard advertising Tesco! Shock

Honestly, first Casablanca and now this!

PS I see Serbia are out of the D Cup.

Raahh · 22/11/2019 17:04

Tesco!Shock

Now, Rafa knows all about self checkouts.

I saw a bit of the Rublev match, didn't look good then- but Djok obviously pulled it back. I'm guessing Rublev/Karen Hemsworth Grin partnered up then- they are quite a good doubles pairing.

Fizzywinegum · 22/11/2019 17:17

Poor RBA Sad - hope his wedding went OK - think he should be married by now.

Mac advertising Tesco Shock - yes Rafa would be much better!

Still haven’t watched any Davis Cup - still don’t really understand it.

PrivateSpidey · 22/11/2019 17:19

Ah they left RBA's space for him Sad

Oh, that's lovely. I read they were doing a minutes silence before the match. Must be hard for the whole team when something like this happens.

Raahh · 22/11/2019 17:36

You're in good company, re- Davis Cup FIzzy. I'm not many people really get the format. Attendace has been a bit low too- although before the tournament, I saw that all the matches featuring Spain were sold out (probably hoping to see Rafa).

Rafa was complaining about the scheduling, as everything is so packed together , with the possiblity that some matches might finish very late. He had voiced concerns about it prior to it starting apparently. I'm not sure it works over the short time frame they are playing. I also liked that Davis Cup had 5 set matches- which they obviously can't do if they want to fit everything in.

JaneJeffer · 22/11/2019 18:21

I still haven't watched any. Poor BustaGut.

And that Tesco Casablanca ad is sacrilege! Hope Mac's is a better effort (doubt it).
