New thread for 2nd Nov show Glitterball

OP posts:

Yes Anton definitely felt he was in with a chance this year, it’s a blow to his pride that actually he isn’t. Although if she isn’t committed to practice then that isn’t his fault.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 03/11/2019 10:55

Elspeth I agree Shirley shouldn’t be liking tweets etc.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 03/11/2019 10:57

Why does Bruno get a week off each year?

No idea, but Monkseal has some nicely acerbic comments about what he might be getting up to Grin

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 03/11/2019 11:01

Piggy - Stacey won, leading to Craig's redacted comment in the launch show this year about it not hurting your chances if you sleep with your partner Grin

Joe and Faye were runners-up, I think? Was there a fourth person in the final?

shearwater · 03/11/2019 11:10

I didn't care for Katie Dereham. She always had an expression like someone had farted and she was trying to smile through it to be polite.

GrouchyKiwi · 03/11/2019 11:10

Ashley Roberts?

derxa · 03/11/2019 11:23

Grin That sums her up very well. She's on R3 and her voice and smugness go right through me.

KurriKawari · 03/11/2019 11:48

Maybe not the best dances of the night but loved Chris and Alex just for the sheer joy on their faces.

If Karim is 25 he needs to stop behaving like a teenager. Amy already looks like his older sister/an air hostess babysitting him. He needs to mature up, stop bobbing around to be taken seriously.

The celebs this year are being let down by awful outfits, music and production. Strip all that away and sometimes the dances aren't as bad.

Craig isn't leaving. He's on the biggest show on tv. He just likes the attention and pretends to leave every year.

Mike getting 8's is funny when you think back to Danny Mac and how he used to get 8's. You cannot even begin to compare the two. Although I think mike is desperate to leave.

I ❤ KFG :)

MaggieFS · 03/11/2019 12:02

I don't think Shirley is getting a hard time on here. She's inconsistent. Sometimes she makes good constructive comments and marks fairly, IMHO, and other times she goes all gushy and seems to give people extra marks because she likes them. She does not come across as impartial.
Specifically last night and Emma B, I have no issue with the point she was making - she's the expert, I'll take her word for it, but the way she delivered it was horrible and unnecessary. I seriously thought she was going to score it three from the way she laid into Emma. It is no example to set watching children and wasn't even faux mean like Craig. It was downright nasty.

DarlingNikita · 03/11/2019 12:06

From old thread If he [Karim] can sing he definitely has a west end show in his future He has a West End show in his PAST! He's been in The Lion King.

Shirley was mean to Emma B, but I think she'd have given a higher score if Anton hadn't kept talking over her. He's too big for his boots and it doesn't help his partners.

I liked Michelle and the two matadors concept. Didn't mind Emma and Aljaz; they did their best with a terrible song. Saffron's dance was ugly. Kelvin was meh. Chris's suited him but I hate that song. Mike was charming but overmarked. I love how Alex has found her dancing mojo. She looked so happy.

I agree with peach about Katya making her partners do their very best and taking them seriously. She respects them, the dancing and the show. I really admire her.

I think Emma and Anton are going home.

SoupDragon · 03/11/2019 12:12

the judges always get a bit harsher and ‘I expected more’ at this point, imo

Unless you are Chris or Mike :)

PermanentPortakabin · 03/11/2019 12:21

Yes, Mike and chris got an easier ride.

Couples choice never gets panned, though (has it ever?), and Charleston pretty much gets criticised on energy and swivel - both of which were abundant in Mike’s dance. Without those cornerstones the judges tend to leave it alone. I was surprised it scored 8s, and I think they could have made more of the timings issues.

The judges have, over the years, been pretty consistent with being harsh towards people who don’t put the hours in. Sure, it’s not entirely Emma B’s fault as she seems to be snowed under at Eastenders, but they’ve never liked celebs thinking they can turn up after a few hours practice, and get rave reviews. Both Shirley and James Jordan think there were major timings issues, and that overall the dance was nothing like a rumba. Shirley could have been a little nicer in saying so, Anton could have been a lot more polite about receiving valid criticism.

ChoccyJules · 03/11/2019 12:23

Motsi was a breath of fresh air after ‚i only talk about your top line‘ Darcy, she actually commented on technique for the first few weeks. Am wondering if Shirl has reminded her that she‘s the only dance pro required round here, thank you

I see that tabloids are running a story about death threats to Mike. Clearly insane.

Wingedharpy · 03/11/2019 12:29

Mike has such bandy legs that he'll never look right doing anything other than riding a horse.

I love Anton though he may have shot himself in the foot back chatting Shirley - that's what did for Brendan IMHO.

ilovesooty · 03/11/2019 12:32

Having watched the comments on catch up I think Anton was incredibly rude even by his standards. I simply can't wait to see the back of him.

iklboo · 03/11/2019 12:33

Couldn't stop a pig in a ginnel as we say round these here parts Grin

ilovesooty · 03/11/2019 12:34

Having said that I think they'll get a lot of sympathy votes and won't be in the dance off.

Inkanta · 03/11/2019 12:36

Up thread I meant to say that Vick (not Kate) was Shirley's target last year. Yes, it is not so much what Shirley says but how she says it that makes it nasty and unpleasant. She also goes to the opposite extreme and is overly light and airy with those she likes. It's like her professional mask slips.

Samcro · 03/11/2019 12:54

i would love a shock DO
Karimsmugness v Saffronspoilt would be good.
or Karim v Mikegohome
can you see who i want out lol.

Samcro · 03/11/2019 12:55

(trying to remember Vick from last year)

Theromanempire · 03/11/2019 12:59

Can't believe that Motsi actually said (paraphrasing here) that she wasn't arsed about the technique and was only interested in the emotion etc (think it was to Kelvin and Oti). In which case, wtf is her purpose??

And why was Oti crying when the judges were talking? They weren't overly gushing or overly critical so it didn't make sense!

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 03/11/2019 13:00

Today 12:36 Inkanta

NumbersStation · 03/11/2019 13:12

I’ve just rewatched the Anton rumba and the judgey bits. I don’t think Shirl bullied her at all. I don’t think her delivery was pretty but like someone else said she’d a right face on - probably caused by Anton’s backchat. The rumba was poor. It really was.

I reckon Emma with the eyes has not been able to devote the time she would have liked to do her strictly experience justice. It showed this week.

That said, I think anton’s fan base will see them through.

The only really shiny dance this week was Karim. I just wish that I didn’t feel so flat when I watched him dance.

Mike is getting like the lovely John Sarg without the humour, warmth and joy. Can’t believe he got an 8.

My mission for today will be listening for Saffron to say shrickly .

Shraight after I do the hoovering.

BackOnceAgainWithABurnerEmail · 03/11/2019 13:33

I really enjoyed last nights show, first one I’ve fully enjoyed this series.

Horsemad · 03/11/2019 14:35

I don't think any of last night's dances really wowed me.

I didn't like Saffron & AJ - thought it looked messy.

Mike's Charleston looked a little laboured and Emma B's Rumba did nothing for me at all, although I confess, Rumba is probably my least fave dance.
I do think Emma's eyes looked better with that hair she had on last night. 🙂

The outfits were a bit naff too, even Oti's sparkly number - and Kelv the Pelv's shirt!
