Your biggest TV disappointments?

VanyaHargreeves · 25/10/2019 20:27

For me I watch American shows almost exclusively so it's

Heroes

A near perfect first season, hit badly by the writers strike the following year and just never recovered.

Lost

The final season. Invested so hard in this show and the last series is just hours of them wandering about in the jungle with torches to reveal what you suspected in series 1

*House Of Cards
*
So great when it started.
Obviously the production was put in a no win situation by Kevin Spacey, but even making allowances for that the last season may be one of the worst series of TV I've EVER seen. Total nonsense and an absolutely shit ending.

Game Of Thrones

I was a DIE HARD fan of this series, and not even I can defend HOW bad the final series was. They just threw away everything they spent years building story wise for shock value and spectacle. Unforgivable. It was obvious that the showrunners had tapped out, and they should've passed it on rather than run it in to the ground.

Anyone else?

I also loved The West Wing and hated what they did to Toby.

However, the final episode was perfect from the Bartlet perspective.

VanyaHargreeves · 26/10/2019 02:34

@Starksforthewin

Arya killing The Night King is another of my peeves

After all the build of the lore of Azor Ahai.

And what the fuck was the claptrap of Theon basically standing there to be killed

Bran might have made sense if the Raven character had been quite sinister in the end shots like it was an evil plan, but they just sat about telling shite jokes

I think the remaining two books will deviate so massively from the series as to be beyond recognition

In many ways they have to. Where the books are Ramsey is married to Jeyne Poole but believes he is married to Arya and Sansa has never met him. Davos is urgently trying to find Rickon for the Umbers etc

Hannibal- absolutely loved the first series. The second turned into some weird try hard artsy rubbish.

Also a show I can't remember the name of. I think it was on channel 4 and had Lenni James in. The story was about his daughter getting kidnapped and trafficked/prostituted and him trying to find her.
It ends with him not finding her but having a jolly good time in a pub with his friend who had sex with an underage prostitute. Confused

MarmiteOrGoHome · 26/10/2019 02:59

Dr Who- Started going down hill when Donna Nobel entered and then declined further. Can't bear to watch it now.
I still feel anger towards the writers.Angry

Soubriquet · 26/10/2019 03:04

Fear the walking dead

Was going really well. Then the latest season seemed to have a big jump as one second madison was alive, the next she was dead. I actually went back and checked I had the right season. They just wanted to shoehorn Morgan in it.

VanyaHargreeves · 26/10/2019 03:08

@MarmiteOrGoHome

Save Me. Dire.

OP posts:
Izzabellasasperella · 26/10/2019 03:12

Soubriquet Is Madison really dead? We stopped watching when the best character in it was killed. Keep vaguely thinking of going back to it but not sure I can be bothered.
Agree with Lost, it started so well and then dwindled to nothing.
Also as many have said Game of Thrones all the wonderful writing previously. I felt no emotion at the end, well apart from irritation😊

Mrscog · 26/10/2019 03:38

Stranger Things season 3 - absolute rubbish and clearly just a money spinner. Wish I’d stopped watching after season 2.

pinksparkleunicorns · 26/10/2019 03:51

Agree with Gilmore girls a year in the life!!!! I loved Gilmore girls but the revival made me so mad. I wish they just hadn't done it at all!!!!

Disfordarkchocolate · 26/10/2019 04:00

I agree about Sherlock. The whole 'Mary is a deadly assassin' plot that took over the series was just bollocks and completely ruined the whole show.

I stopped watching Dr Who when Donna was introduced and didn't watch again until we had the ever so lovely Matt Smith. And then they had Peter Capaldi, now I know he can act he just looked so bloody old I kept expecting him to lie down have a nap!

RingtheBells · 26/10/2019 06:11

The finale of Dexter was so disappointing.

oooohcarriewhite · 26/10/2019 07:12

@VanyaHargreeves agree completely with your 4 shows synopsis in your original post.
Heroes went so weird.
Lost Lost the plot.
Ending of House of Cards WTAF ?
Less said about GOT really.

Also I was gutted at the ending of Prison Break, proper gutted !

maxiflump1 · 26/10/2019 07:53

Agree with what everyone has said about game of thrones. 6 amazing series followed by season 7 where they basically defied time travel by zooming all over the place (Jon Snow I'm looking and you!) and then an eight season that was just style over substance. I was literally screaming at the telly over the whole Bran thing.

Agree re walking dead. 5 great series but the last few have just been ridiculous. I appreciate that a zombie apocalypse is not all sunshine and rainbows but bloody hell how depressing and miserable can a tv show get. Rick disappearing was the final straw for me although I expect he will reappear at some point but I've given up on it now so will never know!

And Dexter. Absolutely brilliant show and something really different. Until Debs found out about her murderous brother and the writers seemed to not now how to deal with it and it all went to pot.

legodisasterzone · 26/10/2019 08:00

The Missing.
I was gutted at the way they ended it; all left up in the air after such an excellent build up.
DH and I still haven’t got over it Grin

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 26/10/2019 08:35

Oh God, Prison Break - I forgot about that one. Days of my life gone for ever.

Better Call Saul is genius though, loved it.

Smallandfriendly · 26/10/2019 10:25

I’ll add a new one to the mix - Outlander. Loved the first 2 series, romantic, sexy, gut wrenching, amazing Scottish scenery. But now, series 4 - boring, repetitive, bad wigs, no chemistry, meh.

GOT - I am a huge fan, just done full rewatch - I wasn’t as disappointed by S8 as some. Yes, it was hurried and some plot lines/characters fizzled out but there was still much to admire - lots of nods and detail back to S1, great music and imagery. And I liked Jons ending, back to the north where he was most comfortable, with Ghost and freedom, he never wanted to be king.

Prison Break - great S1/S2, ok S3, dire S4 and what was that crap for the resurrected series not long on, where he’d faked his death?! How original.

Ditto Heroes - why resurrect drivel years later?!

FionaOgre · 26/10/2019 10:40

@Smallandfriendly god yes Outlander. I binge watched it so I was hugely into it. It was fantastic but then season 4 was just... ugh. Outlander is about Sexy Scottish men (okay, man) showing his sexy Scottish legs in a kilt running round the beautiful Scottish Highlands and suddenly it's all American Frontier life? If I wanted that I'd rewatch Little House on the Prarie.

JustDanceAddict · 26/10/2019 10:53

Agree re Lost, the ending was such a disappointment.
Gave up w Dr Who when Peter Capaldi came in. Loved PE & DT - got used to MS but Peter was a step too far. Didn’t gel for me at all.
The first series of anything is always the best though.

TricklBOO · 26/10/2019 10:56

Lost
Heroes
Dexter
GOT
Preacher
The Walking Dead
Prison Break
Humans

notacooldad · 26/10/2019 11:02

Flash Forward. So promising then utter codswallop
I was going to post the same. I really loved it and then they had a 'season break' only to return and shortly after the show was cancelled.
The last show was so rushed and an anti climax.

Soubriquet · 26/10/2019 11:54

  • @Izzabellasasperella*

I still don’t really know Confused

I think she is...I’m hoping the new season will make it clearer

bakedbeanzontoast · 26/10/2019 15:27

I was so disappointed with the sons of anarchy finale.

TheCanterburyWhales · 26/10/2019 15:39

Peter Capaldi had the treble whammy of shit writing, a shit companion with her little flicky skirts and psycho screeching at people and the endless bloody Madam Vastra story arc . Poor fucker didn't stand a chance.

Third series of Money Heist/Casa de Papel First two were the best thing I've watched in years, I didn't finish the third.

Dr Foster. - how many series can we drag out a man fucks around, woman gets revenge story? Nice mac though.

queenbodenica · 26/10/2019 15:57

Breaking Bad = shit

Nonnymum · 26/10/2019 17:21

Sanditon. I was looked forward to a good regency drama that was Jane Austen like as it was based on her unfinished novel. But it was so bad I could only watch 2 episodes and that was too much. It was boring and annoying at the same time.
