Your biggest TV disappointments?

For me I watch American shows almost exclusively so it's

Heroes

A near perfect first season, hit badly by the writers strike the following year and just never recovered.

Lost

The final season. Invested so hard in this show and the last series is just hours of them wandering about in the jungle with torches to reveal what you suspected in series 1

*House Of Cards
*
So great when it started.
Obviously the production was put in a no win situation by Kevin Spacey, but even making allowances for that the last season may be one of the worst series of TV I've EVER seen. Total nonsense and an absolutely shit ending.

Game Of Thrones

I was a DIE HARD fan of this series, and not even I can defend HOW bad the final series was. They just threw away everything they spent years building story wise for shock value and spectacle. Unforgivable. It was obvious that the showrunners had tapped out, and they should've passed it on rather than run it in to the ground.

Anyone else?

One scene I fast forward is the scene in the house with Andy where she says about him being so sad.

Oh my God I was going to bring up that scene in my post to @Fantababy

It's absolutely crushing and makes me hate Andy. He was a natural pessimist and could have done with some therapy but he is a good father and would have been a good husband because he loved her. And she must've have loved him enough to have children with him after divorcing him.

After he's just bought her fucking dream house as well - BITCH

Fantababy · 25/10/2019 22:59

That was awful - in the house with Andy. I can't rewatch it it's so awful. Because Toby could be grumpy and was so idealistic that people did let him down, but he was a very caring person, (he loved Sam like a big brother, eg) and Andy should have known that.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 25/10/2019 23:03

Flash Forward. So promising then utter codswallop.

VanyaHargreeves · 25/10/2019 23:04

@Fantababy @Fiderer

Isn't it mad how Rob Lowe hasn't aged a DAY and Bradley Whitford has really leaned into the Grandpa look so far as to be unrecognisable as Josh

@Myimaginarycathasfleas

That's another one where they knew they could make an amazing pilot but didn't know where to take it afterwards

That new show Manifest has all the hallmarks of being one of those shows
Really interesting beginning and then suddenly it's a mediocre police procedural

The last two series of Spooks were poor. The producers had obviously run out of ideas, the revolving door casting was ridiculous and some of the ‘spies’ had zero credibility.

The re-make of Yes Minister was awful. The original series were works of absolute genius, but everything was wrong with the re-makes. The whole thing was far too theatrical. Eddington & Hawthorne were an impossible act to follow, but the actor who played Hacker as an angry, shouty little man was completely hopeless. It was just crap.

The least said about Chris Evans era Top Gear, the better....

DilysMoon · 25/10/2019 23:17

Yes to Fortitude, I could bring myself to watch series 2. Also Flashforward we loved that and then gone no season 2, I'm still bitter.

Also NCIS, loved it for a long time but couldn't get on with it after Tony left.

mummyof2munchkins · 25/10/2019 23:22

We loved the first 2 series of designated survivor. Series 3 was a total let down. I swear they were actively looking for ways to introduce more adult language and content. Weak and a waste of a great story.

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 25/10/2019 23:39

The Walking Dead, I've just got to the point where I want it to endConfused

VanyaHargreeves · 25/10/2019 23:42

I gave up on Walking Dead several years ago. It was just an hours misery every week. Literally like watching the colour grey as someone said upthread

Last time I saw it they were still living in the prison

Tin Star - it was just so stupid. The plot made no sense, and the central character was monumentally unlikeable.

MargotLovedTom1 · 25/10/2019 23:52

Game of Thrones I can almost forgive as it was still spectacular, visually amazing television. The Walking Dead though - what a load of shite it turned into. I gave up when one day was stretched over a whole series and I didn't even know who was fighting who. Just became endless rounds of boring gunfights.

Heard great things about Mindhunter; nearly fell asleep during the first episode. DH said the second one was much the same so CBA with that.

Wizzbangpop · 26/10/2019 00:13

Any high school teen drama where they've all gone to uni or into the real world . That last season is always a disappointment

Waterloo road when they moved to Scotland

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 26/10/2019 00:17

Glee.

Loved it when they were all in school together, once half of them were at NYADA it went off badly.

justrestinginmybankaccount · 26/10/2019 00:23

@MarmiteOrGoHome oh my god yes - FORTITUDE Confused utter shite

VanyaHargreeves · 26/10/2019 00:23

I forgot about

Gilmore Girls : Year In The Life

As a Gilmore Girls superfan I was over the moon when they announced the revival

What I wasn't crying out for was basically anything in this mess.

I could rant for days on what was wrong with it

Absolutely terrible

OP posts:
FionaOgre · 26/10/2019 00:23

Firefly.

It could have been so good and lasted so much longer. Serenity helped a bit but we need more.

Trixietrixie · 26/10/2019 00:24

Last series of Hunted. Love it and especially the bit where some of them get away....felt truly robbed of all the time I'd invested

ArseDarkly · 26/10/2019 00:29

Sherlock series 3

The first two were so sharp, imaginative, funny. Me and ds waited two years on tenterhooks, waiting to see how they would explain how Sherlock had survived. No explanation and the whole concept and writing completely gone to shit. Never watched it since Angry

Egghead68 · 26/10/2019 00:30

Not TV but film - the Matrix. First one was great, the rest rubbish.

Prison Break went really downhill.

I thought the last series of Line of Duty was disappointing too.

VanyaHargreeves · 26/10/2019 00:33

Aye, Moffat does have problems writing cheques he can't creatively cash

Some of his stuff on Doctor Who that didn't pan out the fans were coming up with ways it could've made sense and not been a ploy hole, but he couldn't.

That last Sherlock with the sister in the tank was just fucking shit.

I don't think we'll see more of it though, seems like the two leads are not fans of each other

OP posts:
FionaOgre · 26/10/2019 00:34

I'm still hanging on to The Walking Dead. I don't know, maybe it's just habit. It's on so I watch.
It has got terrible I know but I suppose you can't have zombie chases every five minutes. It needed new enemies and new challenges. The problem is they gave us ridiculous villains. I mean "The Governor" and Negan FFS! All they needed was a moustache to twirl while tying a woman to train tracks. It's like pantos booing the baddies when they appear. They have artistic license so can do what they want when it comes to comic book to tv show.

Higginstone · 26/10/2019 00:35

Luther. Great in the beginning, really groundbreaking, now a cartoon.

MargotLovedTom1 · 26/10/2019 00:48

I was still gripped to the Walking Dead when The Governor was in it. The rot set in with Negan and the likes of those ridiculous scrap heap people speaking in pidgin English. Was it ever explained why they (or was it just the strange leader?) spoke like that?

Starksforthewin · 26/10/2019 02:27

As you can tell from my username I am a massive Game of Thrones fan.

Distraught at what the two D’s did to Season 8. Yes the Battle for Winterfell episode was an exception (they didn’t direct that one) but the rushed and terrible way they closed those character arcs we had been watching for eight years just killed me
Bran the Broken is how George wanted to end the show, but they took so many short cuts to get there....

I cannot believe what they did to Jon Snow and Arya
