Classic Brookside - Why Not?

I was just thinking, with all these repeat showings of 'classic' soaps like Corrie, Emmerdale and Holby City, I would love to see Brookside again.

Starting from the very first episode, please! It was November 1982.

Where has all that time gone.... Shock

It would be like watching The Royle Family but before they Royle Family was on.Wink

Rockmeamaryllis · 30/08/2019 13:59

Yes please, I’m in!

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 30/08/2019 15:33

I remember watching the first episode on my new 14" black&white portable telly! It was my birthday present from a couple of days before. I was 13!

Brookside just had a totally different 'feel', compared to the other soaps at that time. Do you know what I mean?

I know it was all filmed in real houses, rather than on a studio set, but the characters and writing just had a harder, grittier edge aswell.

For the first 5 years, Brookside was brilliant. I watched it to the end but, it wasn’t the same. I’d be in too OP!

Nonstopbuttmachine · 30/08/2019 18:14

Ah man I loved Brookside! Sad The scallies, Barry Grant, the patio!

Poor old Sinbad though, why did they do that to his character?

woodymiller · 30/08/2019 23:56

I'm in! Who did you like best? I remember Karen Grant having my jumper on & thinking I must be soooo cool. Definitely my favourite family. Who else was original - Petra & ? (Dead in bed husband)/ Heather (? Amanda Burton character) & Roger/ Paul & Annabel/ I want to say Alun Partridge (surely that can't be right).
Is that all - 5 households surely I must be missing someone

LightDrizzle · 30/08/2019 23:58

Ooh yes! I loved it!

mrselizabethdarcy · 31/08/2019 00:01

Harry Cross and Edna 😀

threesenoughthanks · 31/08/2019 00:02

Harry Cross was in the beginning wasn't he? Oooh did anyone watch the spinoff Debbie loves Damien?

Daffodil101 · 31/08/2019 00:04

Loved it. The jacksons, grants, Paul and Annabelle Collins, posh heather. I lived not far from Liverpool at the time - on a brand new housing estate. My headmistress knew the actress who played Annabelle; she persuaded her to open our school fete. Happy times.

Daffodil101 · 31/08/2019 00:05

Harry cross wasn’t in the beginning.

Sparklingbrook · 31/08/2019 00:06

I loved it. Especially when Bob from Blackadder was in it. Grin

And all the Casa Bevron stuff.

MorrisZapp · 31/08/2019 00:07

Lily Savage had a cameo. Paul Collins tried to shag her.

ParkheadParadise · 31/08/2019 00:31

I loved brookside. Barry grant and Terry sullivan.
Every time i see Anna friel I think of beth Jordache
Damon Grant was my favourite.

FamilyOfAliens · 31/08/2019 00:34

I loved Brookside.

I moved to Germany when it was still on and my mum used to send me a video tape every week with the omnibus edition on Blush

PinkSubscriber · 31/08/2019 17:30

Yes. Said on a different thread yesterday would love brookside to be brought back. I loved max and Susana and Patricia Max’s first wife.

PinkSubscriber · 31/08/2019 17:32

Used to love the fact the omnibus was on on a Saturday afternoon too.

gower4 · 31/08/2019 17:33

Petra and Gavin (dead in bed)

Bobbindobbin · 31/08/2019 17:35

Barry Grant was my first real crush!❤️

ExpletiveDelighted · 31/08/2019 18:06

I watched it from fairly early on but gave up towards the end when the gangster storylines became completely ludicrous. IIRC it went off the rails with Lyndsey Corkhill/Bev Dixon gangster storylines, got itself back on track for a while then became too far-fetched at the end. I detested Bev.

Some amazing bits of TV, the rape of Sheila Grant, the domestic violence and death in the Jordache household, Jimmy's drug addiction.

Whylurkwhenicanjoinin · 31/08/2019 20:43

The moby! Remember The Moby! I loved Brookie and would be “made up” if they showed repeats

Hidingtonothing · 31/08/2019 20:49

Yes! I still really miss Brookie Sad

MrsZlatan · 31/08/2019 21:28

I absolutely wish they'd re run it. I somehow ended up stopping watching it a couple of years before it ended so missed a bit that I'd love to see again! Maybe UKTV play would do it if we all write begging emails Grin

Boyskeepswinging · 31/08/2019 21:43

They ran it again right from the start in the 90s and it was every bit as good as I remembered. I watched both "classic" and real time Brookie consecutively until the cult storyline. They lost me there. I agree it would be great to see it again.

Other Phil Redmond's I'd love to see again are Grange Hill and Hollyoaks. I bloody loved Hollyoaks when it first started, I don't recognise what it's become, although it's great to see Jacqui Corkhill still on the telly.

Boyskeepswinging · 31/08/2019 21:44

Sorry, meant Jacquie Dixon of course! Well, it has been almost 40 years!
