Commander Winslow is actually working undercover for New York City Police Departments, Sexual Violence Unit.

He’s going to bring down Gilead with his colleagues, Finn, Munch and Benson.

I have insider knowledge. Has that spoiled it for you @clarissa469

Perfect crossover tv 😂😂😂

The rings are nothing like the scold's bridle and they prove that the writers of S3 are no longer following Atwood's principle about everything having happened somewhere. Which is a pity imo as it was a principle that helped to give the series its power.

endofthelinefinally · 25/07/2019 16:51

They don't have to look the same. They are an appliance designed to make speech impossible. Obviously updated from the medieval version.
Anyway, that is my take on it, nobody is obliged to agree. They were a popular way of silencing women. Which seems to be a recurring theme.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 25/07/2019 17:12

The scold's bridle was worn for brief periods for public humiliation and physical punishment, not as a way to prevent speech longterm. They were instruments of torture but not mutilation as the rings are.
Sure, there are one or two similarities but not enough for anyone to be able to say rings have been done in real life.

I was pretending after Stabler left SVU, he found relegion to deal cope with all the things he’d seen and he went too far. But your version is better.

OliviaBenson1 · 25/07/2019 20:34

@boringlyboring

Gilead takes law and order seriously.

Ivy40 · 25/07/2019 21:40

I am struggling to see Detective Stabler as a nasty piece of work. My brain just isn’t processing it.

Is Christopher Meloni a bad character in anything else?

thanksamillion · 25/07/2019 22:31

I hadn't thought of the scolds bridle but take the point that it's not quite the same. I think in previous series the knowledge that all these things had happened made it feel even more like we're only a small step away.

Ginger1982 · 25/07/2019 23:30

@Ivy40 have you seen him in Oz?

Binforky · 26/07/2019 00:22

When I see any scene with him in my imagination adds the unicorn

Season 4 has been announced. (I won't link as the news report I read contained a link to the current series episode 9 and don't want to be accused of spoilers Wink)

I think this could explain why it's gone downhill so rapidly. Instead of trying to make each new season as good, and consistent with the earlier seasons, as possible, they have already decided to make so many more seasons that they're just stringing it out. I suppose it's become more about making money than making good tv now Sad

OriginofSpecies · 26/07/2019 20:22

Yes, I have mixed feelings, verging on the mostly negative. But no doubt I'll continue to watch.

colouringinpro · 26/07/2019 21:53

I am going to try and Not watch s4 if that makes sense. s3 has been, realistically shit. I'm not convinced the producers "vision" for June et al is worth knowing.

Ivy40 · 28/07/2019 18:55

I should watch Oz.

Thanks @Binforky

Hey don't write about tonight's episode in this thread! It comes up on TIO before we/I've seen it!

Clawdy · 29/07/2019 08:35

So even though it has been shown, no one is supposed to post till everyone previous poster has seen it??!

TeaStory · 29/07/2019 09:11

@Clawdy So even though it has been shown, no one is supposed to post till everyone previous poster has seen it??!

Not on the thread specifically for the episode before, no! Post about it on the thread for the latest episode!

OriginofSpecies · 29/07/2019 09:36

@clawdy

There is a thread for Episode 8 linked above. The reason we have separate threads per episode is so that those people who are unable to watch when it is broadcast can avoid the relevant thread (and potential spoilers) until they have caught up.

Oops, sorry.Sad

Rainforevermore · 29/07/2019 10:15

No worries Clawdy, it didn't spoil it for me at all - but imagine if someone posted
OMG I can't believe June's dead!!
and it appears in your threads I'm on list like that before you watch it. Grin

Triskaidekaphilia · 29/07/2019 14:27

Feels like that's where she's heading with how reckless and bloody annoying she's being @Rainforevermore!

I'm glad of the threads for each episode as me and DH have started watching the following Saturday with a nice dinner or takeaway Smile
