Aha I haven't seen the trailer! I'll have to look up the launch properly as I clearly didn't get the full effect.

Dancing in trainers, converse and canvas shoes ruins the dances imo!

I miss the sweeping floor length frocks and swishy Latin numbers. It's as though the Been decided they needed to do away with it all in order to attract younger viewers. Do teen/20-somethings even care for Strictly?!
I can see a certain amount of work has gone into the costumes but they end up looking cheap and last-minute

They need to divert some of Tess, Claudia and the judges salaries in the direction of wardrobe and the pro dancers (wishful thinking!)

Hi all - really late to the thread and SoupDragon has kindly pointed me over here for some help I need! I have to admit to totally bad form and not had time to catch up on the full thread yet but I promise I will later properly (trying to pack!)

I’ve been lucky enough to get last minute tickets to the launch show tomorrow and I’ve been scouring the various threads on all the forums but one thing I’ve not been able to find out is anything about the dress code. I know it says glamorous which is fine. However I have lots of dresses that are just sequins so you’d think would be perfect. But what I’m worried about is whether being TOO sparkly would prevent us getting decent seats because the sequins might not work with the cameras? I know they only put people with dark clothes behind the judges, but no idea about the front rows?

Are there any mumsnetters that have been to the show that would be able to let me know if this would be a problem? TYIA

I’m driving down from West Yorkshire this afternoon so it’s a bit of a panic and I’ll probably end up packing for a fortnight!

I think that might be the one I go for, as it’s my favourite. And it’s matt black on the reverse side of the sequins so I can tone it down for the cameras if needs be.

I will definitely! We’re in the queue and there are probably about 100 people in front of us. But 5am was early enough to get up after a late one last night. Apparently there were people here at about half 9 last night!

I saw that Katya has definitely got a partner this year, so assume that means Luba & the new dancer Nancy (?) will be benched?

Like another PP said I'm very surprised that Michelle Visage was missing, I'd think it would have been contracted to appear. I hope she will be committed to training etc, I was looking forward to her on the show.

I thought Katya would be 'punished' by not having a partner this year. I suppose it depends on height requirements although I imagine she's quite short? I love her choreography. Presumably she'll be given a duffer as Aliona was when she stepped out of line 😂

I haven't caught up on the whole thread but I wonder how Oti's feeling about her sister being a judge? Oti's a bit of a fan favourite putting in loads of hours training + extra requirements/engagements for the comparatively low pro salary. Her sister must be earning a fair bit on the judge's panel and had no prior connection to Strictly UK afaik. I wonder if Oti applied?!

Only 1 will be benched coveting as more male slebs this year.gareth her sis has judged Oti before, and she has been a judge on German strictly years now. Oti said before the announcement she herself was not ready to be a Strictly judge yet and was also still doing mentoring/judge lite duties on Greatest Dancer which is into its 2nd series soon. With AJs brother Curtis in the weird receptionist role.

Also surprised Michelle not there. Assume they will show a pre record of her reaction instead.
Strictly has a decent gay following and she is well known to drag race aficionados so I reckon she is in it until Blackpool at least.

I’m not convinced he’s definitely given it away - I thought it was a ‘wishful thinking’ type of thing, but I didn’t see the interview so cant judge his tone of voice/body language, etc.

That was A-MAZ-ING! Just like it is on the tele! No spoilers from me I’m afraid, but I can say that all the celebs were there for the recording yesterday. There were a couple of surprise pairings, which is good I think. Funniest line of the night goes to Emma Barton when she was paired up with her partner.

We weren’t at the best angle to see the dances, as we were directly opposite the judges and a few rows back, but they had some small screens up so we could see a bit more. What we could see was fantastic though! I can’t wait to see it on the tv next week now.

I have to say, the BBC were brilliant and they work so hard. Tess and Claud are just adorable and really funny. And Stuart the compare did an amazing job of keeping us going all night. The amount of work that goes into the set, hair, makeup, costumes etc is just incredible. It doesn’t always go perfectly and there were a couple of retakes as you’d expect, but everyone just cracked on with it even after 5 hours. We were sooooo tired after it all, but my god was it worth it!

I got my lowest prediction score this year but as with every year, once I see them in black and white, I always think: yeah I can see that. Ridiculously excited now. Just have to buy a telly and a disco all (moved back to UK last week. Strictly is the only thing keeping me from losing it altogether).
