Just seen that James and Ola are expecting a baby!

Just seen this too, lovely news for them, sounds like they've had a hard journey to get to this point, so very pleased for them both.

GrouchyKiwi · 01/09/2019 21:59

That's lovely news for James and Ola.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 01/09/2019 22:22

And Craig's in trouble too: apparently at the filming of the launch show, he made some comment about Stacey sleeping her way to the glitter ball...

JoySuckClub · 01/09/2019 22:36

Yes I read that... Something along the lines of being dragged up from the dancing gutter (??) and it having helped that she slept with her pro.
Didn't she get good marks week 1 and only slipped up with cha cha, what the hell is the gutter comment about?
Or did they redo les miz again?
Most odd.
Had to reshoot allegedly and that snark will be edited out.

JoySuckClub · 01/09/2019 22:38

sparkles you were there, dish the dirt/spill the tea....isit the Sun being the Sun again or did Stacey's mum really run off in tears?

covetingthepreciousthings · 04/09/2019 19:45

This threads gone very quiet!

Who do we all think is going to be viewer favourite, & who do we think is going to be the surprising one?

100PercentThatBitch · 04/09/2019 19:46

Checking in on the thread for when it gets going

Very disappointing lineup I think. I only know Anneka and two of the sports people

100PercentThatBitch · 04/09/2019 19:51

I say this most years

Craig's ire that the public picked Stacey over Ashley is this constant blind refusal of his to understand or accept what the British people won't vote for.

The only time an absolute ringer, trained dancer has won the show is Smuggy Chambers and that's because he very believably downplayed his experience.

The public vote for the most improved beginner, it's the whole fucking point of the show.

I wish someone would give him a good talking to.

colourlessgreenidea · 04/09/2019 20:05

Craig's ire that the public picked Stacey over Ashley is this constant blind refusal of his to understand or accept what the British people won't vote for.

Nah, it’s because he’s scripted as the ‘evil dahnce purist’ and the beeb likes him to stay in character. (Fun fact: in the early series either John Byrnes or Paul Killick, I cant remember which, watched the training footage each week and wrote Craig’s comments for him Wink)

The only time an absolute ringer, trained dancer has won the show is Smuggy Chambers and that's because he very believably downplayed his experience.

You’re forgetting Jill Halfpenny and Caroline Flack, who were both highly trained. Kara and Alesha weren’t exactly dance novices, I think Jay had a fair bit of training, and while Ore and Abbey aren’t ‘trained’ as such, they both had in-depth lessons before the show.

xsquared · 04/09/2019 20:07

100percentthatbitch The public don't vote for the most improved dancer, they vote for who they like the most.

Alesha Dixon and Jay McGuiness are examples of ringers who have won.

The BBC are running out of celebs to join Strictly and I only know one from this year. I am still going to watch though as I know that some of the previously benched pros will have a partner this year, which will make it interesting hopefully.

100PercentThatBitch · 04/09/2019 20:10

Where Jill is concerned that was Series 2 and it was before people really thought about it - it had become a really noticeable problem - I think it was only off this thread last year that I was disappointed to realise she'd had training

Forgot about Jay. Never warmed to him but never liked Aliona.

Craig did have such a face on when Stacey won I'm not sure it is all entirely "panto villain darling"

colourlessgreenidea · 04/09/2019 20:12

The public don't vote for the most improved dancer, they vote for who they like the most.

Which is why viewers are urged to ‘vote for your favourite’, not ‘vote for the most improved beginner’.

It’s a light-entertainment reality show that pretends to be premised around beginners learning to dance, but if it really was all about the most improved beginner they wouldn’t have cast the likes of Dennis Taylor or Jimmy Tarbuck alongside people a quarter of their age.

100PercentThatBitch · 04/09/2019 20:12

I feel like there should be loads of people clamouring to get Strictly and it shouldn't be that hard to get "names"

100PercentThatBitch · 04/09/2019 20:15

The days of having a few or even quite a few genuinely terrible obvious beginners seem to have past - it was originally meant as a one off Sport Relief and it was supposed to be about the learning aspect not people who can knock out an 8 point Cha Cha week one

unique1986 · 04/09/2019 20:18

Karim is a ringer.
Though I never know how good you have to be to be a ringer...
I don't think Emma is because she's never been trained professionally to dance.

covetingthepreciousthings · 04/09/2019 20:21

I think this too, I'd be really interested to know which (i think there must be a few) celebs (or their agents), pester the producers to try get in each year. Surely there must be a few d - z listers desperate to take part each year. I'd also wonder if there is higher B list celebs who have offered to do it, but they haven't been willing to pay high enough salaries.. 💰

colourlessgreenidea · 04/09/2019 20:25

But celeb reality shows tend to get people whose career has hit a down turn, who are relatively unknown and want to increase their profile, who have been ’coaxed’ by their employer (i.e. the bbc), or who desperately need the money.

If you’re a bona fide name, why would you go near a reality show?

Gemma Collins begged to be on it. Thankfully she was ignored and had to do DOI instead Grin

To learn to DAAAAANNNCEEE dahling Grin

Plus you're on the number one rated show of the autumn every week. Mad exposure. I do think it's the money/fee issue.

Richard Madeley in the early years used to be clearly desperate to be asked and now claims to have declined.

I think we'll be seeing bit players from GOT in a year or two

100PercentThatBitch · 04/09/2019 20:33

Katie Price And Kerry Katona have also allegedly asked to be on and been refused. I do think they have a desire for a certain image to maintain

colourlessgreenidea · 04/09/2019 20:49

But that’s my point - if you’re already a successful name, you don’t want it need the ‘exposure’ of clod-hopping around in a sequinned leotard then being ripped to shreds for it.

The ‘Oooh, I’ve always wanted to learn to dance and now I’ve finally got the chance to fulfil my dream’ rubbish makes me laugh.

Aye, funny that you never managed to locate a single dance teacher anywhere near you at any previous point in your life, until your career headed downhill and the bbc waved a cheque in your face. Hmm

I was surprised at Peter Andre and Mark Wright being on it, I wouldn't have thought they were the type of people the BBC would touch but I thought both were fine in it.
I vote for my favourite each week, why wouldn't I?
I want him to to stay in so I can keep watching him. (In a less creepy way than that sounded!)
AJ Btw.
