Finished Stranger Things 3 and didn’t enjoy it. Anyone else.

I was really excited about this series and have just finished it but found myself just wanting to get to the end out of curiosity rather than real enjoyment. The first 2 series I loved and binge watched because I was desperate to see what happened next. Is it just me or did anyone else find it annoying, silly and minus the magic of 1 and 2? I love all the actors and really liked Erica and Robin but despite the great acting I had mentally clocked off.

Yeah me too, I didn't even finish it I got to 1/2 way into the 4th episode and decided my life was to short to watch any more.

Okyah · 08/07/2019 22:57

Roe not just me then. It felt very young adult compared with 1 and 2 which felt geared towards a wider age range. Though saying that, the violence in this series was definitely not young adult imo. I found it really daft too with Dustin and Suzie singing an entire verse of Never Ending Story At such a critical time and all the boyfriend/girlfriend heart to hearts in the middle of various crises. I could easily have thrown in the towel around epi 4 too. Did you enjoy the first 2 series? I loved them.

I absolutely loved Dark. Compulsive mindbending stuff

NiLunNiLautre · 11/07/2019 10:12

I still have one episode to go (will be watching tonight) and I agree. It seems to have lots its weirdness and uniqueness, as if it were written by someone else this time. Remember all the lights and all those drawings in Wills house before? The disappearing pumpkins? There's nothing like that. And Joyce has been pretty much relegated to being Hopper's sidekick (though Hopper has been amazing this series). I like that there are more girls though - Max, ice cream girl and Lucas's sister.
Hiwever a bit disappointing for me overall.

gotmychocolateimgood · 11/07/2019 10:13

Have to disagree with you I'm afraid.. Loved every minute! I think series 4 will be darker.

UpToTheRigs · 11/07/2019 10:19

I adored it.

Doublevodka · 11/07/2019 10:27

I've just started season 3 and I'm thinking of giving up on it. I'm really bored now of slimy, killer, alien octopus thingys. It seems to be just more of the same. I do love all the 80s music though. Makes me feel like I'm 14 again.

gotmychocolateimgood · 11/07/2019 10:41

I think they deliberately made this season the fun one whilst the kids are still quite young. Season 4 will be really dark I think. More mind games, twisted psychological stuff and horror. By then the original audience will be old enough to hack it.

gotmychocolateimgood · 11/07/2019 10:42

Personally I found the body snatchers references quite scary but I'm a wimp!

Mitebiteatnite · 11/07/2019 10:46

Oh don't say that, it's next on my list of things to watch!
I've been so disappointed with loads of series that I used to love (looking at you handmaid's tale and the blacklist). There's a bit of me wondering if it's just because I can't really concentrate on much atm, or if they are just a bit shitter than they used to be.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 11/07/2019 10:47

It was a bit scooby doo and had lost the darker, edgier feel. I missed out episode 7 by accident and didn't notice.....
El's character became victimy and powerless (way before she lost her superpowers) in a way I found really unpleasant and disappointing.

NiLunNiLautre · 11/07/2019 10:49

Another thing: there was just far too much of 11 doing her thing this time. She spent most of the series with a bleeding nose, and as soon as there was any sign of trouble, had hand aloft doing "magic". All a bit too much of a convenient cop out.

Steve spending the whole series (so far) in his silly sailor suit is quite funny, though.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 11/07/2019 10:50

@Nil . Agree, overused and made it boring.

Enb76 · 11/07/2019 10:55

It wasn't dark enough for me. I didn't mind the story line but the humour felt very weird and a bit try hard. The only story arc I really enjoyed was Robin & Steve's. I'm bored of Nancy's face.

That said, I thought Dacre Montgomery was fantastic in this.

Londonlassy · 11/07/2019 11:27

I loved this season. It has been my favourite. I always get disappointed as subsequent seasons of my favourite TV shows never live up to the original season but season 3 of stranger things has been brilliant

Cymbalon · 11/07/2019 14:33

A bit Scooby Doo is exactly what I thought too. And the humour felt very out of place/unlikely at such critical points in the attempts to save the world. The sense of weirdness/mystery I agree seemed lacking in favour of the ridiculous Russian base below the shopping mall plot (v Scooby Doo-ish) . I hope series 4 is darker and makes better use of all the excellent characters. I really loved Erica and Robin.

Just started watching Season 3.....can anyone tell me if there are rats all the way through it because if so I can't watch it! I'm terrified of them

NiLunNiLautre · 11/07/2019 20:19

No, the rats appear a couple of times but are not a major feature. If you hate them, you'll be glad to hear that they explode and dissolve 😁

Deadringer · 12/07/2019 00:04

Scooby Doo sums it up for me too. I thought there was too much 'romance' in it, I know that the teens would be full of hormones and angst but the Hop and Joyce will they won't they saga was just too much for me. And the ending was shite. I am not going to bother with season 4.

TyneTeas · 12/07/2019 00:08

Loved it, thought it was better than S2.

My teen thought there was a bit too much romance

Yaflamingalah · 12/07/2019 12:20

I’m not enjoying it at all either Sad as I loved 1&2. I feel too old for this, like I can’t relate (which is ridiculous as I was a child of the 80’s) I think it’s all the teen romance stuff - just cringe! We’ve just finished episode 3 and I said to DH last night that I wasn’t enjoying it and he agreed. I’m not sure we’ll watch any more episodes TBH.

nowifi · 12/07/2019 13:13

I thought they should end it here from what happened in the finale, but it seems they want to drag it out for another series.

Really liked Robin and Steve's relationship, can't believe she is Uma Thurman's daughter!

boringlyboring · 12/07/2019 15:26

I mainly enjoyed it but I did skip some of the teen fun/romance and the Joyce/Hopper arguments (though I did laugh hard when she threw the gun past Hopper, I’m chuckling now).

I thought Will was a bit pointless in this season, his only role was scratching his neck.

I still cried at the end though.
