I was really excited about this series and have just finished it but found myself just wanting to get to the end out of curiosity rather than real enjoyment. The first 2 series I loved and binge watched because I was desperate to see what happened next. Is it just me or did anyone else find it annoying, silly and minus the magic of 1 and 2? I love all the actors and really liked Erica and Robin but despite the great acting I had mentally clocked off.

I enjoyed it but did feel like the cast has become a bit bloated - having everyone split up into separate groups and parts of the storyline was a shame. Agree that Will was a bit ineffectual, but at least he actually got to stay put and unpossessed this series Grin

Billy did get a redemption arc! We saw his traumatic childhood and he sacrificed himself at the end. I'm not sure how much else they could have managed within the season given that he was a vicious racist bully?

boringlyboring · 22/07/2019 18:10

Billy’s end should have been running off into the sunset with Mrs Wheeler

Nonnymum · 22/07/2019 18:44

I didn't like the first few episodes which I thought were a bit boring. But it gets better. I enjoyed the later episodes

Serenajoy1 · 22/07/2019 23:23

@DamnItsSevenAM thank you! No i hadn't seen that, I feel a bit more hopeful now!

DamnItsSevenAM · 22/07/2019 23:47

Serena, it's all going to be ok. I felt the same as you, why would I want to watch any more? But I can't wait now to see how it will all work out!

Huntlybyelection · 23/07/2019 15:49

I loved it!
I'm not a fan of Will so quite pleased he just appeared to rub his neck.

Flipping LOVE Hopper. Love him. And Joyce.

And the whole Russian lab under the mall was just picking up on the Reagan era vibe. And Cary Elwes was excellent as the mayor too, I d8dnt know he was in it until he appeared on screen!

Love Steve. Poor kid gets beaten up and left to babysit the kids every episode! He's excellent. And Robin was ace too. And Erica!

Loved it.

I just finished it. Loved it. Great fun television.

I saw this thread a few days ago and have been resisting opening it until I finished S3 in case of spoilers.

I DISAGREE!!!

I loved this series and thought it better than series 2. It had me on the edge of the seat so many times. The new characters of Erica and Robyn were great and I did like Alexei and was so sorry he died. Also the humour was very good.

I though the bit in the last episode where Dustin and Suzy were singing Never Ending Story while their friends were being chased by monsters and Russians was just hilarious. Apparently sales of the soundtrack for that film have soared since this went out and they have thanked the Duffer brothers!

Oh yes - any are we to think (hope) from that last scene after the credits that Hopper might be the American in the other cell?

Coolcoolcoolcoolcool · 26/07/2019 11:53

I disagree too, I bloody loved it. Though I think I might be the only one who doesn't fancy Hopper.

Pinkiii · 26/07/2019 21:59

I really enjoyed season 3 and liked that they all had separated.

Nancys head got bigger every episode though, she needs to gain some weight back bless her

Really liked Robyn and I have only just discovered she is ethan and umas daughter! Think she has a great career ahead of her.

Faircastle · 30/07/2019 21:48

There was too much squelchy flesh melting and not enough mystery.

I liked the last 15 minutes of the last episode. I found it quite poignant when Will donated his dungeon master manuals to Erica.

Dustybun I love the name!

PrincessMaryaBolkonskaya · 30/07/2019 23:21

Yup I was really disappointed with season 3 after loving 1 and 2. Too many soppy love bits. I was bored.

AndMyBirdCanSing · 30/07/2019 23:52

I loved it. Loved the new characters. Loved the Neverending story duet Grin
And cried at the end when I thought Hopper had died (although he's not really dead is he Smile).

I thought it was a lot scarier/gross than previous seasons and DD spent a lot of it behind a cushion.

Dustybun I think Hopper was really struggling with protectiveness about El. He was literally scared to let her open the curtains for a year and now she's got some boy pawing all over her? I don't condone how he acted at all but considering what happened to Sarah plus his justifiable fears for El I can kind of understand it.

I think Hopper is a pretty damaged person with a lot of unresolved anger and trauma due to his experiences (Sarah, Vietnam) and we saw a lot of that coming out this season. I honestly don't think he and Joyce should get together unless he can work some of this stuff out! Perhaps a year trapped somewhere will give him time to work on his issues. Grin

I feel really empty after watching season 3
Not cos it was so good but cos i feel it was such a letdown after 1 & 2
I really disliked Erica, don't know what she brought to the series.
It was really too violent for me.
Hopper and Joyce just argued for most of it
and i didn't really like Hopper much in it
and he spent much of it being angry.
Just feel rather let down after the first two!

purpleme12 · 04/12/2021 23:36

I feel so let down by it all i'm even sure i want to watch season 4 now!

Kanaloa · 05/12/2021 00:31

For me it was just a bit blah. The first series was fantastic, the second was good, then the third just felt like they were told ‘do a third series’ and plucked a bunch of words out of a hat to make plots up out of.

I’ve said this before as well, but I really enjoyed the fact that there was this idea in the first and second series that ‘oh it must be Russians’ and both times it turned out it was just Americans. Then in the third it was Russians. Comically villainous Russians with secret potions and an underground bunker who seemed to have little sensible motivation. There were some cute moments, I liked Dustin and Suzy singing and the scoops troop but a lot of the other stuff just felt like it was very poorly thought out in contrast with the first series.

Very few shows now really go the distance. They start really strong then sort of fizzle/drag things out way beyond the interest level that the plot actually holds.

Kanaloa · 05/12/2021 00:33

Another thing - I think this about multiple shows but the ‘they’re dead, no they’re actually alive’ isn’t clever, especially when it’s done more than once. It’s just a sort of fake cliffhanger to drum up loads of emotion - gasp, hopper’s dead! Eleven and Joyce are heart broken! It’s so awful.

Then in the next season, oh no he’s actually alive. It gets to the point that there’s no real emotional punch in a character dying because it’s happened so often that there’s no consequences, you know they’ll be back again.

Holothane · 05/12/2021 01:43

Love s1 and s2 3 is ok can’t wait for s4.
