They should all go on lads break. The three amigos.

Stef can take pictures.

JaneJeffer · 01/07/2019 21:15

John is hilarious talking about social media Grin

Fizzywinegum · 01/07/2019 21:18

Just watched the end of the Gauff match - so sweet.

Raahh · 01/07/2019 21:20

Andrew Cotter is one of those people who really doesn't look how they sound.

JaneJeffer · 01/07/2019 21:28

That woman putting the ball in her bag Grin

Raahh · 01/07/2019 21:32

Don't blame her- they charge a lot for used balls there Grin.

I have a couple , from when DD1 used to go to Rainbows and her leader did Wimbledon themed days, after she had been. She always gave them souvenirs. Must have cost her a fortune!

PrivateIsles · 01/07/2019 21:38

Grin I like the sound of the lads' holiday in Yorkshire. Aww. Bless them. I'm genuinely sad all three of them are out.

Raahh did you say earlier you wonder if Grigor can come back from this? He's had an injury hasn't he - hopefully not a bad one. He's still quite young really. Although as those commentators would like to make out, the ATP is just a bunch of zombies shuffling around the courts ready to retire at any minute (apart from Roger of course) Hmm

OP posts:
Raahh · 01/07/2019 21:44

I just wonder if he will be mentally affected by all these losses, Private. In theory, he should have a few years in him.

But yes, depending on who they are talking about , there are lot of older players who are just hobbling around.

Apart from Roger. Grin.

Raahh · 01/07/2019 21:45

I like the idea of Zombie tennis though.

If body bits fall off, you can use them as a racquet.

kazzaD66 · 01/07/2019 21:45

Stan has posted a photo on IG of him bbq-ing, complete with red wine emoji.
Djok would choke on his mung bean if he saw that Grin

Go Bear

Raahh · 01/07/2019 21:48

Oh good for Stan. Grin.

Djok would choke on his mung bean if he saw that Grin

Grin do we know anyone in Wimbledon catering?

Fizzywinegum · 01/07/2019 21:48

Sorry I’m watching today at Wimbledon on catch up so a bit behind Grin

What’s with the green and purple paint dripping all over the place?

Mac does make me laugh but I think he could have had more sympathy for Sascha - I thought it was really sad to see Sascha, Stef and Naomi in their press conferences - they were so down and upset. Yes they’re earning millions but they’re under a lot of pressure.

I think Grigor is 28 Private - he doesn’t seem to have won a match for ages.

Raahh · 01/07/2019 21:58

I still think -unless you are Djok or Fed- winning the tour finals is a poisoned chalice.
Grigor has barely won anything since winning it in 2017, the last 18 months have been bad.
Sascha's year has not been great since he won last year- and let's face it- the Tour final in 2016 was the last major thing Murray won. In the months after that, before going off injured, he didn't do that well anywhere really (by his standards) and only managed a tournament win in Dubai.

That's my theory anyway. Grin

PrivateIsles · 01/07/2019 22:08

I'm just watching it on catch up as well Fizzy. I actually feel a bit depressed about some of the results. That 28-30 generation, of Dimitrov, Cilic, Delpo, Raonic etc - and the youngsters as well - so much promise! It just feels a bit sad.

Unless the early 2018 Marin turns up tomorrow (crosses fingers). And Rafa needs a straightforward win to etc his tournament started too.

Gauff was brilliant though. She was so calm and collected as well. How can you be like that at 15???! I'm in awe. Although I was also sad to see Venus go out so that was a downside.

Sorry for the gloomy post!

OP posts:
magimedi · 01/07/2019 22:15

Match of the day, for me was Venus/Gauff. Coco was just amazing - can't believe she is only 15.

Tsonga to beat Tomic tomorow & Thompson to beat Kygrios. Then I will be very happy.

Tennis Tennis Tennis

First day of Wimbledon is like jam on meringues - so much to see that is so good.

Raahh · 01/07/2019 22:24

Rafa definitely needs a straightforward win.

I'm sending lots of positive vibes Jordan Thompson's way.

I agree, re that group of players that promised so much. Raonic- marmite on here, I know, but I like him - had a great year in 2016. Murray was his nemesis. If a few points had gone his way, (in Australia for starters) if he hadn't choked at Queen's, and been injured in Rome, the Murray story that year, I think would have been very different.

But, a bit like Delpo, he's a big bloke. He is very susceptible to injury. It's a real shame.

PrivateIsles · 01/07/2019 22:24

Jam on meringues? What would Djok say to that?! Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 01/07/2019 22:27

Jam on meringue? He's probably almost vegan, and hasn't touched sugar for decades.

It's why he is such a miserable sod. Grin

Raahh · 01/07/2019 22:29

I did like the views I got of Goran today though. He gets better with age.

(He is about 3 months older than me. I'm just falling apart like a tennis zombie. Who doesn't play tennis).

PrivateIsles · 01/07/2019 22:31

Raahh yes I like Raonic as well - I think he's a bit underrated. I'd never thought of how he'd played Andy in so many crucial matches that year - he should definitely have won the Aussie semi final iirc.

I know the feeling.

OP posts:
PrivateIsles · 01/07/2019 22:38

I didn't get any glimpses of Goran Sad

Will be looking out for him on Wednesday. He's such a silver fox nowadays.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 01/07/2019 22:39

I'm looking forward to Thompson of the lovely eyes beating Dick tomorrow.

Fingers crossed for Rafa. I'm nervous after today's results.

bookbook · 01/07/2019 22:50

Can I quietly creep into the thread , and sit in the corner and read the updates ?
Not kept up with any tennis at all this year , since Wimbledon last year Blush , but looking forward to this . Tried to clear the decks a bit to make some time to watch

PrivateIsles · 01/07/2019 22:54

Does he still have that moustache though??

Tomorrow has got some great match ups as well. Really looking forward to
Fognini v Tiafoe and
Diego v lovely Matt Ebden. Also Pouille v Gasquet.
Kuznetsova v van Utvanck (sp?!) should be good as well - van U had a good run at Wimbledon recently - was it last year?
Plus Baghdatis in possibly his last match. Too much going on...
