Changed the name of this thread as we were very upset with the ending of series 3 out in Bangladesh! Waiting out for news of series 4. In the meantime, we are reviewing the seven series of Soldier Soldier.

I will need to take it in to PC World. Very frustrating.

Ooh there's a bit of needle between Michael and Colin Salmon (don't remember his name)

Rhubarb01 · 20/08/2019 21:47

Bit of local colour and some Cypriot dancing.

eejittwo · 20/08/2019 21:47

Not quite the same as the song and guitar SF man in Kenya

Ilovelblue · 20/08/2019 21:47

Donna's dress is very short! She's in a strop.

Rhubarb01 · 20/08/2019 21:48

Donna's starting to express disenchantment with her life and being married to the army - we are beginning to see her grow and want more from life, but it may not be a good thing.

Rhubarb01 · 20/08/2019 21:49

"She moves in her own way..."

Ilovelblue · 20/08/2019 21:49

Oh don't talk of SF eejit. I still mourn Elvis.

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 20/08/2019 21:50

Oh Donna's sister has fallen for a local charmer - oh dear, will this end well?

eejittwo · 20/08/2019 21:50

How sweet - Nelson gets back at Dave for the bed and the lizard.

Ilovelblue · 20/08/2019 21:51

Yes I expect Donna saw army life through rose coloured glasses when she first got married.

So sorry ladies, that didn't work well for me tonight.

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 20/08/2019 21:52

That made me laugh eejit - good episode. I enjoyed that.

Ilovelblue · 20/08/2019 21:53

What are we doing next week?

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 20/08/2019 21:53

Bad luck ilove. We've all had episodes with the technical gremlins at work.

Rhubarb01 · 20/08/2019 21:54

I can do Tuesday or Thursday next week - well any day really, but as those are our normal days, I suppose we'll try to stick to them. Up to you ladies, which day you'd prefer.

eejittwo · 20/08/2019 21:59

I still mourn Elvis too. I feel a re-watch of selected highlights coming on. Still love that scene when they arrive in Kenya, especially the filthy look he gives Spunky ( isn’t it?) in response to the question’You okay for this, boss?’

eejittwo · 20/08/2019 22:02

BTW - have you seen how they’ve made as much a mess of this series of Poldark as they made of OG3?

Magi84 · 20/08/2019 22:05

Good one Ladies. Always impressed with Soldier Soldier for how realistic it all seems in terms of lots of extraneous bodies about the place and a general feeling of the size of a regiment. As I think you mentioned recently Rhu that they must have had a large budget.

Still reminiscing about OG1 I see. Will we ever get over it I wonder. I continually find myself being reminded of it by all sorts of things.😞

Rhubarb01 · 20/08/2019 22:36

Hi Magi - yes still thinking of OG 1 so fondly and with great nostalgia. It really did ignite something in all of us, and we could never quite explain what it was - apart from the very obvious Grin. I think it just had a bit of magic about it, which seems a really weird thing to say when you consider the subject matter. I've managed to forget/ignore all the later CJ stuff. We may never see CJ on screen again, but I'm convinced that he and Molly sorted it out and got back together because they still loved each other. I'm going to ignore anything that is said about CJ in the next series unless I like it.

As for Poldark eejit I've made the odd comment on that thread as well. This is the fanfiction series - I don't mind that, as there was a gap in the books and I don't see why someone shouldn't imagine it (It would be hypocritical of me to say otherwise) but I've gradually lost interest since series 2. I do find Ross really irritating and not the attractive specimen he once was. All the men - apart from Dr Enys who is lovely - behave in a really stupid manner. Only the women have any sense, but I'm so fed up with that trouble maker Tess. The way that Ned Despard was depicted (I know he was a real person) it seemed obvious he'd end up in trouble and he certainly did! Geoffrey Charles and his beloved are a bit tiresome and why didn't they run away earlier? Sadly, I don't care very much what happens to any of them (except Dr Enys!).

eejittwo · 21/08/2019 18:02

I've been thinking. Rhu comments that Donna is getting tired of the army, but has the army been good for her? Would she have grown and matured the way she has, if she'd stayed in Newcastle? Or has she learnt from the other wives? Could we see Donna's development as the same sort of thing as Molly's in OG1?

Ilovelblue · 21/08/2019 18:20

My laptop is now in for some so called health checks. If it's not going to be back for Tuesday, I will have to duck out of the watchalong. Thankfully, I do pay for a support package.

My take on Donna was that she saw marrying a soldier as an escape route from a more humdrum life in Newcastle. The reality was less rosy than the dream though.

Having watched all the series but trying not to give too much away, she matures even further in future episodes and forges a career for herself.

Evening ladies. My laptop won't be back until next weekend so I can't do the watchalong. Not sure if you want to do it without me or not. Also I am on holiday again next week (w/c 1 Sept). Let me know what you want to do.

eejittwo · 24/08/2019 17:52

Hi
I can do Tuesday, but not Thursday. Do We want to skip a couple of weeks till ilove is back?

Rhubarb01 · 27/08/2019 19:15

Evening all - yes, I can see the problems with our current schedule. Shall we delay until Tuesday 10th September? I can't guarantee to do Thursday 12th, so it would need to be Tuesday that week. How does that sound eejit and Ilove?
