I was definitely still at school for Edberg-Becker - I missed the whole of the Monday finish. Gutted!!

The Goran final, I was on holiday in Greece. Had a few Mythos beers to celebrate IIRC!

What on earth, Stan?

Going back to the scheduling and the possibility of finishing next Monday - how many days do the French need? They start on a Sunday and play the middle Sunday, neither of which Wimbledon play on. I know they've now lost two whole days but it's still ridiculous they can't finish on time.

I agree, I much prefer the way Wimbledon schedule the latter rounds so that everyone plays on the same day. It's just a fairer way of doing it. I mean, it's not rocket science, is it HmmGrin Tennis

Raahh · 05/06/2019 23:03

kazza they need to go by the weather- and I don't under stand how they can't schedule more matches tomorrow.
As I said earlier- they do it at the start of the tournament, why not at the end- and if there is a need, start earlier.

It's not like Wimbledon- because of the nature of grass, they can't start earlier (dew and stuff). At the US , they are just awkward due to TV schedules , I think. Enough said.

There are more than enough courts to get the tournament back on track, if they want to- but it might mean putting big ticket matches on the 'new' court (isn't that what it's for?).
From what I can see, Phil and Susie have 3 matches scheduled. The third of which is doubles- I'm not down playing the importance of doubles, but those matches could be scheduled else where.

Last week, they had 4/5 matches schduled. And the forecast didn't show rain.

It's really annoying.

Raahh · 05/06/2019 23:17

I get why Wimbledon doesn't play the middle Sunday btw (fun when they do) it's to give the grass a chance to rest- last year when it was really hot, the place looked awful after just less than a week- the grounds staff must have been pulling their hair out.

Clay is different- they don't even need to go in when it's raining- unless it's really bad, like today.

My other problem with how shortsighted the whole thing is - is that women's matches can be so unpredictable. I know it's the same with the men- but Konta's match was I hr and 11 minutes long. Halep won in 45 minutes the other day.

If that happens tomorrow, they could easily get another match on.

I knowGrin - the flip side is a 5 hour men's match.

But, you know, I'm ranting. Grin.

Jane I dread to think what your browsing history looks like! Grin

I agree - I think they should try to finish as many matches as possible today especially as the weather still doesn’t look great for the next few days. Sort it out Guy!

PrivateIsles · 06/06/2019 06:49

Stan is definitely proving Vogue's dadbod comment wrong with all these half naked pictures of himself!!

Looking forward to today but I agree about Phil and Susie (they sound like a daytime TV presenting duo Grin) - they should branch out across the courts and get more matches played today. Because they could have played the semis today, that were scheduled for today. But maybe they didn't want to be unfair to the players who haven't yet played their QFs?? It's all a bit messy.

I quite like the idea of the Phil et Susie Show.

It does sound like daytime chat show. There could be a segment on tennis fashion, beards, stadium architecture. Very long lunchtime section food bit- with wine. Gardening section, with new presenter , Simonne. Finish off with a random song, written by a bored housewife in Leicester.

Right- there had better be tennis today, because I think I am losing the plot a bit. not much sleep

Grin love it. I would definitely be tuning in.

Jane oh yes, like Mr Motivator.

Grin

John Inverdale could do the weather, from a floating map on the Seine.

Raahh · 06/06/2019 10:19

I'm warming to this idea- we should pitch it to ITV4, they could do it during gaps on the schedule next year.

I'd rather that than repeats of Konta matches.

PrivateIsles · 06/06/2019 10:31

I've put the telly on in advance and now this is the third time I've seen Konta's match!! I like the Susie and Phil show idea soooo much better.

I think Stan would look great in some of the crazy patterned lycra Mr Motivator used to wear Grin

You lot have cheered me up. I'd certainly watch the show Grin
You could also have a history slot, looking back on some great matches or moments, esp if those involved are still around to talk about it. I'm thinking Wimbledon victories with Stefan Edberg Grin

PrivateIsles · 06/06/2019 11:13

I really hope Sascha is on top form today. I was watching his press interview from the last match and I think he's starting to understand the Yorkshire lingo now but I suspect Yorkshire Man is speaking much slower than normal Grin

Raahh · 06/06/2019 11:26

Now, Wimbledon victories involving Edberg, I would definitely watch Grin.

I had to go out.

Doesn't look like I missed much.
I want Halep to win- but Anisimova can afford to be completely reckless, as she has nothing to lose, really. No-one is expecting her to win- which means , she very well could. It's exactly this kind of pressure that is difficult for Halep to handle sometimes.
