There was one I loved but can't remember the name of - may have been The Last Train???

It was about passengers on a train who didn't know there was due to be a world catastrophe and a passenger was carrying some sort of time suspension technology to a special protective enclave.

Upshot the train crashes and they wake up 50 years later to find a post apocalyptic UK, try to come to terms with that, evade marauding survivors, find out everyone else is sterile and the last child was born 30 years or so ago, so the human race is dying and try and find the protective enclave the scientist was trying to get the technology that saved them to, in the hope that there are "civilised" survivors there.

I think I was in my teens when I watched it (BBC???).

I remember being hooked.

I bet it would be disappointing if I saw it again though (standard definition, rubbish specifical effects!!!). Good story though.

Wonder if anyone else remembers it?

@HunkyDory69

It also had Romola Garai in it, didn’t it-she was in a few other things around that time that I thought were good.

Oh Ally McBeal! Have the whole dvd series and go through it about once every year or two. Still makes me laugh.

Oh and Will & Grace!!

ChicCroissant · 08/05/2019 22:03

I've got The High Life on DVD, it has one of my fave ever lines in it '(Shona) I'll have you over a barrel when we get back' '(Sebastian)You'll have to anaesthetise me first'

I will be trawling the charity shops for some of these suggestions Grin

Has anyone mentioned footballers wives yet? Used to love that one! Just finished watching bodies - it's excellent!

LazyLizzy · 08/05/2019 22:08

Men In Trees - gutted it wasn't renewed after the writers strike.

Families - half in England, half in Australia. Then it became all in England. Started career of young Jude Law. Thursday nights before or after Prisoner Cell Block?

Ally McBeal - got the DVDs.

evilharpy · 08/05/2019 22:11

I adored The Sopranos. Wish I could watch it all again with fresh eyes without knowing what was going to happen. Ditto The Wire.

I'd love to watch Beverly Hills 90210 again but don't want to fork out for the DVDs from Amazon.

Heartbreak High is on Prime in case anyone else was a fan!

fedup21 · 08/05/2019 22:11

Just finished watching bodies-it's excellent!

Is that on Netflix?

AnyoneButAnton · 08/05/2019 22:13

I miss The High Life. One of those shows where you think “I have no idea what the fuck they were smoking when they greenlit that, but I’m glad they did”. I think there’s a MNer called PiffPaffPoff isn’t there?

7Days · 08/05/2019 22:18

Does anyone remember one about the Vietnam war. It was all flashbacks of the war and their trauma in the present day.
There was a black haired medic in it called Dana and the theme tune was a Motown type song with the lyrics ' Reflections of the way we used to be ...'

Wingingit9212 · 08/05/2019 22:23

We have The West Wing, This Life, Our Friends in the North, Sopranos, Cracker, The Wire etc etc all on DVD and still watch them Blush. So so good!

I remember my mum letting me stay up to watch Tales of the Unexpected then her and Mind Your Langauge. I loved them both and would love to see those again.

Yes to Cities of Gold, loved the theme tune!

mrsbits · 08/05/2019 22:31

Peter Kay's Phoenix nights....

poppet31 · 08/05/2019 22:36

Nip Tuck. I never did see the last season as I think it was cancelled in the UK. Brilliant show.

ChicCroissant · 08/05/2019 22:42

Common as Muck, the series about the binmen - wonder if that is on DVD (eBay must be doing a roaring trade off this thread Grin )

Directingtraffic · 08/05/2019 22:55

A Chris Eccleston drama from the 90's called 'Hearts and Minds' he was a rookie teacher in a tough school, probably not as good as I remember but I'd love to see it for the nostalgia!

notso · 08/05/2019 23:02

Kids programmes, Joss's/Jossies Giants, Kevin's Cousins Alfonso Bonzo, Johnny Briggs, Betty's Bunch and Pugwall.

Also loved watching as a child May to December, Dear John, Ever-decreasing Circles.

Party of five, Bob and Rose. Probably loads more.

Ihatesundays · 08/05/2019 23:05

I miss all the 90s reality shows, the cruise one and the one about the travel reps. I’m desperate to watch the travel rep one again. And the one where the group of people lived on Taransay? For a year in 2000.
There is a channel showing airline at the moment so fingers crossed someone shows it.

Wavyheaded · 08/05/2019 23:16

I second My So-called Life! You can get it on DVD. I remember when I was unemployed in the 90s I watched it every single day. It gave me LIFE, as the young 'uns say. Rayanne Graff was a Rock Star.

DameSquashalot · 08/05/2019 23:22

I loved Party of Five. I had completely forgotten that!

DameSquashalot · 08/05/2019 23:23

Was it Castaway on Taransay? When Ben Fogle rose to fame...?

AndromedaPerseus · 08/05/2019 23:36

Tutti frutti is on iplayer
I’d like to see the Balkan trilogy again
