It depends, if you had a mortgage free house it would last what? 5 years or a bit more? You’d have to invest it to last a lifetime, if you just lived on it you’d be poor fairly quickly

According to wiki, Kathy Beale is 68 (which sounds about right given Ian’s age when EE started.) So agree with pp that she ought to be investing the money to top up her state pension, not looking to open yet another bar on the Square!

top up her state pension haha. No-one is EE pays national insurance contributions. None of them are employed in a straight forward manner. Kathy disappeared for god knows how long. I really hope she is not supposed to be drawing a state pension

Money is an odd commodity in EE. It's either feast or famine , but always enough for tea in the cafe and a pint up the pub. Or a long holiday in Australia etc etc. ( mick) when a few years back they were poor as anything.

I know, the Carters were in deep shit with the Vic needing major repairs yet they employ god knows how many people to stand behind the bar of a pub which is either almost empty, or bursting at the seams with drinks on the house for all.

Best ones of all are Denise and Kim... denise was collapsing with malnutrition and going to the food bank one week, next week she’s downing Prosecco every spare minute. And who’s supposed to be looking after baby Micah when Kim’s attacking customers in the salon; can’t imagine she’s earning enough to pay childcare, guess she’s stuck him in the cupboard. Nice of them to let silent Ollie out for a haircut.
