I think the writers could have taken the opportunity to explain how student loans aren't really a 'lifetime of debt'. Are they trying to discourage poorer kids from applying to uni? Bex is working class kid with chance to go to Oxford, yet she's depicted as being scared off by unfounded worries about money.

The writers haven't much idea about student loans which surprises me as a lot as the writers must be older people with teens or younger people fresh out of uni ( or just look it up !)

Oxford fees would be more than a 'normal 'uni I guess but she would be entitled to a bursary I guess? Sonia and Martin don't earn a huge amount between them.
I suppose Bex liked the hideous dress because Kush was involved?

I completely agree about how badly the writers are portraying student loans as a 'lifetime of debt'. Bex would get a tuition loan for the fees and she would be entitled to the maximum maintenance loan for her living expenses. Every student (well almost every, I suppose there are the odd exceptions) takes out loans and it is considered to be normal. Martin working for a few hours in the chippy is hardly going to go a long way to start paying her costs is it?

Does anyone know what Bex is hoping to study at Oxford?

Also, why doesn't she has an insurance uni? The writers should have done their research a lot better.

I've been trying to think what Ben's Great Plan is, and why Lola is a crucial part of it. It's obviously a plot to defraud Phil of some serious money that he hasn't got , but why would Ben need Lola for that?

No-one appears to be wondering why Ben has miraculously transformed into the sort of son that Phil would have wanted - ruthless and hard but with faaamily values. Surely Kathy, at least, would be wondering what the massive change in Ben was all about?

Yeah I can’t see why Ben would need Lola for the plan either. He is saying things like “you need to be hostess with the mostest” and “don’t mess this up for me” but there is nothing to explain why he actually needs her there. I think they’ve just decided they wanted the actress back and this is how they’re shoehorning her return in with Bins.

Phil has no money the garage is Bens so Ben is going to set phil up with driving dodgy lorries and money laundering chicken shops to tear him down AND he planned all this after 1 phone call from kathy a fortnight a go AND he was with Lola just as Kathy phoned

I also agree that Lola has been shoehorned into this 'big plan ' just to get her back on the square! I can only guess it's because lexi is Phil's g/ daughter so they can play the whole ' fammillyy' thing.

I also dislike Bin as he was so throwaway about killing off Hev and has completely changed character.
I actually sigh now when I see them all!

I missed that optimist! Lola's earrings are dreadful.

The student loan thing on EE really annoys me. She is not taking out a bigger loan than any other student. She will pay it back in the same way when she earns above the threshold. She will probably qualify for whatever the extra bit for low income families is. Also I reckon Oxford colleges probably have very good bursary schemes for students from Bex's background.
No-one in EE ever has an insurance place. Tamwar didn't get into Oxford so that was it he stayed in Walford.
Bex lives in east london, she could take the tube to some of the best universities in the world if she doesn't want to leave home.
