They'd arranged to meet at the Christian Dior exhibition at the Victoria and Albert museum. And yes I was a bit starry eyed!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/03/2019 21:35

It's lovely to know that the atmosphere of kindness and mutual help in the sewing room is real, and they really do get on.

SoupDragon · 02/03/2019 08:54

Great photo! Did they think you were mad asking for a selfie with them? Bet they were laughing about being "celebrities" afterwards :)

PrivateIsles · 02/03/2019 11:39

Hi all, I'm sorry to be butting in at this late stage, but having just returned from forrin parts, I have just binge watched the first three episodes (and read both threads, obviously).

Really enjoying it - love Joe, think Jen and Riccardo are my fave contestants but am completely in awe of all of them!!

Looking forward to Tuesday already...

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/03/2019 13:56

Welcome to the Fray Isles

Hope you enjoyed your forrin parts.

Olafolaf that's a brilliant photo. Quite made my Saturday! Though I'm now very envious and thinking it's time to venture out for some culcha.

Welcome all lurkers, room for everyone here on this most cosy thread.

Just caught up on the 70s episode. Absolutely loved Alexei's maxi dress.

So many memories of Laura Ashley maxis and wafting down High Street Kensington.

Biba had gone by the time I moved to the smoke but the smell of patchouli, cheese cloth, desert boots and not fully treated Afghan coats lingered.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/03/2019 21:01

It was beautiful, wasn't it four?

Personally I didn't;t like Mercedes' dress - I'm sure that the skill in production was amazing, but the material (to me) was grim!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 02/03/2019 21:19

I liked Mercedes' dress, but thought it was very simple in comparison to some of the others, like Alexei's dress. For a start it was very easy to get it to fit correctly, it was very baggy across the bust and hips and had an elasticated waist. The model could have been a couple of sizes bigger or smaller and it would still have fitted.

< realise that I NEED that dress . . . . >

I love Esme! She and Patrick seem to have really gelled and make a great partnership. Joe is a good addition and he seems to have brought out more of the humour in the judges.
Loving the trips down memory lane on this thread. I also had 'loons' - bought via mail order ads at the back of New Musical Express!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 03/03/2019 16:28

Agree with your every word Pawsage!

glamorousgrandmother · 04/03/2019 12:59

Yes! For about £3.

Fontella · 04/03/2019 13:25

Ah yes Loons.

They were always frayed on the bottoms where they dragged on the ground (over your platforms of course). Worn with your cheesecloth shirt and velvet tassled shoulder bag.

I bloody loved the 70s. In a row once someone called me a '60s throwback', and I was mightily offended. Why .. because I'm a 70s throwback!

glamorousgrandmother · 04/03/2019 13:28

Ah the nostalgia!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/03/2019 08:40

Just polishing up the thread and putting it on the top pf my list!

"The sewers are coming, Hoorah! Hoorah!"

SoupDragon · 05/03/2019 10:41

I'm not sure about the pet wear tonight. Although I think there was a little daschund who looked particularly cute. Good job it's not Heather's year or she might have stuck pins in him by accident.

Backseatonthebus · 05/03/2019 10:47

Love GBSB. On a 70s roll, did any of you have a Simon shirt? Or Falmer jeans which had back pockets with three vertical stitched pleats?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 05/03/2019 11:43

I hadn't even considered how cooperative or not the live models might be in the dogs' wear section. I wonder if Joe will be on standby with paper towels and a spray cleaner? Grin

DarlingNikita · 05/03/2019 11:58

I'd imagine there's hours' worth of discarded footage of dogs crapping on the floor/chewing up their outfits/humping someone's leg Grin

I'm very lukewarm about the pet clothes thing. I very much judge people who put clothes on animals. And how qualified are Patrick and Esme to judge animal clothes? Can they be held to the same criteria and standards as people's clothes? Or are they having a guest judge?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 05/03/2019 12:21

I'm not keen on dog clothes for cuteness, but I can see how it might benefit a dog to wear boots if they live in a country where there is grit/salt in cold weather or a warm coat if they are a breed that feels the cold.

My dog is a native Irish breed so ought to be fine in all weather, he doesn't wear clothes but he does seek out warmth wherever he can and won't go out for his walk if there is cold rain, so I can see that if he were a short-haired, chilly sort of dog then a jumper/coat for winter outdoors might be necessary.

I went to Go Outdoors this morning, they welcome dogs and have a bowl of biscuits and a bowl of water at the door. My very fussy Jack Russel took out one small biscuit dropped it on the mat and poised herself to wee on it - immediate hasty exit!

She actually likes wearing clothes, when I get out her coat, jumper or bandana she gets all excited and helps me put it on her. What can I say?

PrivateIsles · 05/03/2019 14:02

Or are they having a guest judge?

A canine judge?! I would love that! Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/03/2019 14:39

Falmer jeans which had back pockets with three vertical stitched pleats?

If you can't get it together in your jeans
And they don't fit like in the glossy magazines
GET INTO FALMER'S
(They fit like a glove)

If you're in-between size
Falmer's have your jean size
They fit you like a brand new second skin!

All the real charmers
Get their backsides into Falmer's
Falmer's jeans!
Fit to be seen in!

FALMER'S!!!!!

My word - that's taken me back! Wink
