Posting so I can find you again, am now going to staple and glue gun my way to the previous thread to catch up!

TheSilveryPussycat · 26/02/2019 23:10

I seem to remember a Bus Stop in Croydon. The changing rooms were communal!

I think either Alexei or Ben would have been fine to go this week. The first weeks always seem to be about picking off the bottom half in no particular order.

glamorousgrandmother · 27/02/2019 08:27

A lot of shops used to have communal changing rooms, Top Shop and Wallis also did.

DarlingNikita · 27/02/2019 10:06

Haven't watched it yet, so am marking place without looking!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/02/2019 13:47

I had a Purdey pageboy cut in the seventies.

So did I, I but I had mine before Joanna Lumley even thought of it, so as far as I was concerned it was a SCHADEN haircut!!!!!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/02/2019 13:49

I hated communal changing rooms . . .

dontcallmelen · 27/02/2019 13:56

Oops sorry Schaden from now on will call it The Schaden also hated communal changing rooms, Chelsea Girl also had them does anyone remember Martin Ford? Fond memories of a brown midi skirt & pink shirt with the biggest collar known to man combined with massive platformsI thought I was the epitome of style.

Hell's bells!

I'd forgotten the oversized round-ended collars . . .

Binglebong · 27/02/2019 22:44

Finally caught up! I loved Alexie's dress. I want to make the sleeves for something.

I thought the example they used for the flares was a really bad fit on the mannequin. None of them were great fits but you don't expect perfection. Apart from for the example!Angry

Ben was really annoying this episode, right decision for him to go. And what was with the poncho? Seriously, wearing floating clothing while sewing ends up with you being incorporated in whatever you're making. I speak from experience here.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 27/02/2019 22:50

I did think there was something odd about the flares, you're right Binglebong. I think they went for more of an 80s/90s waistline, the original 70s look was a much higher, tighter waist and very snug across the abdomen.

I like Alexei's dress but could never wear that. I'm far too clumsy to wear loose sleeves and would have dragged a sleeve through the prawn marie-rose on half an avocado within 10 minutes of arriving at a party.

So, dogs next week. Is that new? I don't remember them doing that before.

I feel like I am being seriously judged here!

Aww, nearly as handsome as Patrick.

FuzzyPuffling · 28/02/2019 13:01

ARGH the collars....they looked like spaniel's ears. (I had forgotten them until now, thanks for that)

SchadenfreudePersonified · 28/02/2019 14:31

Not just judged dillite - you are being found wanting!

iklboo · 28/02/2019 16:09

My favourite outfit in the 70s (I was about 8 or 9) was a royal blue polyester jump suit - flares and huge collars of course - with a white polo neck jumper underneath and a nurse's style snake belt. Blush

Fontella · 28/02/2019 18:46

Staples, glue guns and wonderweb the thread title should have said.

Where would we be without wonderweb?

Sorry not to have been around enjoying the banter, but I'm self-employed and have been so busy this past week, I haven't had time to think.

I did however take an hour out of my busy schedule to watch Sewing Bee - and I loved it. Loved the flares (I actually still have a couple of pairs of Boohoo flares and wear them occasionally) and of course the maxi dresses. I wore my first ever maxi dress to a Who Concert back in the day. I was very young, incredibly young actually, a mere embryo, truth be told.

Hmm

There were some wonderful dresses made in Tuesday's episode and on balance I do thing the right one went.

Now I'm going to go and read the thread and 'catch up'.

olafolaf · 01/03/2019 17:32

Ok so have been lurking and v much enjoying the thread and then today went to the V and A for a half term visit (sadly tickets to the Dior exhibition were sold out). Look who we bumped into! And they were all super lovely 😍

That's a fabulous pic @olafolaf and really nice to hear they were all so lovely and fab to see they've kept in touch. What a fab day out for all Smile

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/03/2019 18:06

a nurse's style snake belt.

The Snake Belt!

They were ubiquitous!

How did I forget those monstrosities? - I remember that Rangi Ram on "It Ain't Half Hot, Mum" wore one around his turban.

dontcallmelen · 01/03/2019 18:07

Fabulous picture Ola aww lovely that they are happy spending time together.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/03/2019 18:08

okafolaf

You lucky duck!

I would've even starry-eyed!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/03/2019 18:13

That's a great picture. Was there a Sewing Bee related event on, or were they just hanging out together because they're friends?
