I’m going to miss tonight’s episode due to a work thing Sad

dontcallmelen · 18/03/2019 18:43

Looks in awe & wonderment at machines, that I have no idea what they do how to operate or even switch on.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 18/03/2019 18:47

I’m a bit behind on this but I just wanted to say that I love this show! It really makes me appreciate the work involved in producing clothes. I managed to get DH to sit through a whole episode so I may convince him to watch it live tonight!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/03/2019 19:01

Right, just caught up with last week's ... thoughts in no particular order.

  1. Isn't Mercedes the one who had a career in bomb disposal? How is she not scattered into hundreds of pieces across a war zone with her inability to follow the detail of instructions?

I said exactly this to ds last night as we were watching it together. Surely ability to follow detailed instructions is quite a big chunk of bomb disposal?

  1. Janet reminds me of someone but I can't think who, and I'm thinking about it so much when I watch her that I can't take in what she's doing.
  1. I can't believe no-one mentioned Juliet's off-centre bodice. (On the show. Obviously this thread picked it up because we know what's what.)
  1. Riccardo is some sort of fitting magician, played by Robin Williams. He is being consistently robbed of victory every week and I shall sulk if he goes.
  1. Why did Mercedes keep saying her fabric was sci-fi-ish? It looked like a stylised floral to me.
  1. I like Jen but she's in danger of fading into the background.

Looking forward to tonight's, whenever I get to actually see it....

SoupDragon · 19/03/2019 13:32

Mercedes' fabric was very much like the 1950/60s atomic style pattern. I think that's what she meant by sci-fi.

DarlingNikita · 19/03/2019 14:08

some sort of fitting magician, played by Robin Williams Grin

Ladycsparkles · 19/03/2019 17:04

I'm so happy I found this thread, none of my friends in real life are sewers or remotely interested in the sewing bee- yes I know I should dump them all immediately!

I am LOVING this new series. Will be snuggled in bed for 9pm so I can watch tonight's episode Grin

Am I the only one who hasn't sewed for quite a while? My machine is currently at the back of the Harry potter cupboard and although I've been itching to get it out since the start of the new series I haven't had the time yet Hmm

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/03/2019 17:32

Real Life is greatly over-rated Sparkles.

But don't worry - you are among friends here. This is a Local Thread for Local People.

You will fit right in. Grin

If it's any consolation, many of us haven't sewn since school Home Economics lessons, (guilty as charged Blush) but we are balanced by some absolute Sewing Stars. We are bonded by a love of Patrick since garments and a passion for watching people being kind to each other and helping each other out (invariably happens on Sewing Bee).

Sewers (uses the term advisedly !) appear to be universally nice. People being pleasant is quite addictive.

Look forward to seeing you later.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/03/2019 17:33

*fine garments, not since garments

dontcallmelen · 19/03/2019 17:51

Yy Schadey sentiments, I sit on dunce sewers bench & admire the beautiful work of others on the thread

Ladycsparkles · 19/03/2019 18:16

Patrick is very easy on the eye I'll agree with that one Blush

I love sewing, am very much a beginner and haven't made much but I do enjoy the process. I have loads of ideas of things I'd like to make I've just never got the time or the energy to do anything

FuzzyPuffling · 19/03/2019 18:30

I've started making a summer dress. I think it will take me until the summer to finish it. It's a bit complicated. (For me, anyway)

Tablet on charge so I can take it to bed and watch in warmth and comfort. See you later Waspies!

DarlingNikita · 19/03/2019 18:40

I haven't sewed anything since school, and my memories of that mainly consist of the teacher having to thread my machine needle/rethread the needle/untangle my fabric/rethread the needle ad infinitum. I was TERRIBLE.

I watch for the competition and personality aspect, and I used to love Claudia. Sorry Joe, but you ain't the same.

I also like the history bits.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/03/2019 19:08

The history bits are great!

I also loved Claudia, but I think thatJoe is a worthy successor.

muppet1969 · 19/03/2019 19:27

Have been lurking... LOVE this programme. Am a passionate handsewer and have huge respect for their ability with machines. And my husband cycles with Patrick on a Saturday...!!Grin Though he refuses to introduce me!!!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/03/2019 20:04

Welcome Muppet

Even though you are closer to Patrick (by proxy) than any of us can hope to be, we are not bitter Grin

FuzzyPuffling · 19/03/2019 20:10

Cycles with Patrick???????????????? This is the stuff of fantasy. Lycra shorts at all?

Halsall · 19/03/2019 20:19

Cycles with Patrick....!

I’m getting ready for tonight and just placing here a pic of the shirt I actually cut out and sewed

Haven’t had time to do the buttonholes yet but thank God my machine has an automatic buttonhole function so it’ll be relatively quick.

(This is a great pattern btw - the Sewaholic Granville shirt)

Patrick in lycra Shock

I wonder if he makes his own cycling shorts.
