I thought I would make a new thread quickly seeing that the first one is nearly full

Bra*

Binglebong · 15/03/2019 22:31

Don't fancy turning out spaghetti straps from Mercedes' fabric. Not easy!

Janet should have pattern matched the front of her dress.

Binglebong · 15/03/2019 22:54

Fernie and Fuzzy two more talented ladies on here. Beautiful!

I like that they choose a model who speaks Ricardo's mother tongue. Must be so much more relaxing for him. Are the models ever repeated? They seem very fond of each other but then you'd need to be fairly relaxed with that close contact!

Binglebong · 15/03/2019 22:55

That's me done. Thanks for the company, see you next week.

dillite · 16/03/2019 14:49

bingle no, I'm not steam punk although I am making a historically inspired gown. I say inspired because I am not doing it completely historically accurately as I have no idea how to. I just look at pictures and try and make it as similar as I can. I have completed covering it in 5m of pleats. It was bloody hard work and now I shall move onto the back. Pleats will be bigger so should be quicker.

That really is looking incredible. A lot of steampunk are seamstresses (far nicer word even if we do have one needle!Grin) so I was wondering that's all. With those skills you'd fit right in! What are you doing for the rest if the outfit?

iklboo · 16/03/2019 16:59

Bloody hell thats amazing. I'm chuffed with myself because I invisibly darned a hole in the seam of DH's jumper. I don't feel so clever now BlushGrin

FuzzyPuffling · 16/03/2019 17:31

I love that we are showing our own creations on this thread. I've been really inspired by you all and have got out another pattern (as yet untested) and some fabric for a summer dress.
I'm a happy sewist!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 16/03/2019 18:13

That's beautiful dillete, so much work and attention to detail.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 16/03/2019 19:24

There must be a huge amount of material in that skirt Dillite

Wolfcub · 16/03/2019 20:02

I’m watching Sunday’s show again and I still don’t understand how that gilet beat Riccardo’s strapless dress

2rebecca · 16/03/2019 20:20

That skirt is beautiful. Really impressed with the bra too. I've only done French knickers and camisoles, much easier

SchadenfreudePersonified · 16/03/2019 21:28

Not sure if this has already been posted, so apologies if I have missed it and am repeating someone else's offering.

schaden there are more than 5m just in the pleats. It took me a week to complete.

bingle I don't have a plan as such, I have a rough idea but it changes as I sew depending on time, mood, my machine. I have 2 images that I am using as an inspiration, but then adapt them to my skills and fabric. For example the large pleats refused to stay pleated so I made them smaller and graded. I don't have enough fabric left for a pleated back and a train so I will be adding an overskirt in another colour. And ribbons. Lots and lots or ribbons.

Wow. I'm really looking forward to seeing this.

Halsall · 17/03/2019 09:10

dillite , have you read or seen Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion books? They're a fantastic resource for making historical costumes.

Frenchfancy · 17/03/2019 15:51

Seriously impressed dillite. You have far more patience than I.

angstinabaggyjumper · 17/03/2019 18:23

Thanks Schaden have just read Monkseal what's the betting the SHOCK BOOT is Riccardo. That really wouldn't be a shock.

Jaxhog · 17/03/2019 18:31

I’m watching Sunday’s show again and I still don’t understand how that gilet beat Riccardo’s strapless dress

That gilet is possibly the only garment on the show that has made me want to go away and make it myself. Complex, original and oh sew wearable.

Jaxhog · 17/03/2019 18:34

Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion books are to die for! I used to make my own regency patterns from them, until patterns became more widely available. I still have my made-to-measure double sleeved Spencer jacket with peplum flare from 25 years ago!

Jaxhog · 17/03/2019 18:39

The only 'surprise' candidate would be Janet. She's been consistently good so far.

2rebecca · 17/03/2019 18:58

I like Janet. I wasn't disappointed her gilet won last week. I think it was clever and wearable

2rebecca · 17/03/2019 18:59

Our local sewing shop has hired a cocktail venue with TVs for the final and we all have to make stuff we've made. Should be a great evening.

2rebecca · 17/03/2019 19:00

"Wear" stuff we've made!

dontcallmelen · 17/03/2019 20:41

The skirt is truly a thing of beauty.
