All I can say Jane is each to their own Grin

Raahh · 06/04/2019 18:22

Private I have just been reading the crushes thread.

I agree re Jimmy Stewart. He was lovely.

Of course, my big teen crush was Edberg. His hair was a bit dodgy, but it was the 80s. Grin

PrivateIsles · 06/04/2019 18:40

You should definitely post Stefan on there Raahh Grin

There is a sad lack of tennis players in that thread - I don't think there's any sportsmen in fact Shock

Raahh · 06/04/2019 19:18

Maybe people have taken it to be just film/music stars.

I would have thought George Best might have had a mention at some point otherwise. 70s footballers should all be banned though. GrinJust for the perms.

Perms have lot to answer for, really.

PrivateIsles · 06/04/2019 19:26

Tee hee, they certainly do Grin

What with our perm chat and the old crushes thread, I'm having quite a retro time on MN this weekend!

JaneJeffer · 06/04/2019 19:35

I do love this thread.

For a number reasons, I've had a shit week- but between you lot on here, and the bunch on the Doctors thread, I always know I will get cheered up Grin.

PrivateIsles · 06/04/2019 20:13

Sorry to hear that Raahh Brew

Glad the tennis hairstyle/perm/Bros chat cheered you up a bit. Hope things are looking up soon. I know Rafa is supposed to be helping with the Monte Carlo draw ceremony next week Smile

JaneJeffer · 06/04/2019 20:21

I'm still pissed off I won't get to see Monte Carlo Angry

Thanks, Private. I will be glad when Ds's GCSEs are over, mainly, and that's only a very, very small part of the problem. And probably the start.

Teenagers

Ooh, a bit of Rafa will cheer me up.

it still seems ages til Monte Carlo.
I am getting nervous now.

Raahh · 06/04/2019 20:26

Jane I am hoping I will be able to get Amazon to work- but it's hit and miss.

My mum is really annoyed- she pays a small fortune for Sky - and has only recently realised she can't see the tennis anymore (We haven't dared tell my gran!).

JaneJeffer · 06/04/2019 20:35

It's so annoying. Sky have lost a lot of football as well as tennis but they still charge the same for the sports channels!

OP posts:
Raahh · 06/04/2019 20:40

Jane that's the thing- it's a total rip off.

We don't have Sky, we have the most basic Virgin package. And that has nothing on it, for £££. But we didn't expect any sport for that- we knew there wouldn't be any.

My mother got SKy-for the sport- and is now stuck with something , that doesn't deliver. Basically, as I discovered at the beginning of the year, to cover all tennis, you need about 6 different providers. It's really not fair.

JaneJeffer · 06/04/2019 20:47

If only one of the other channels had got the tennis instead of Amazon!

Good day to you magi Smile Bear Tennis

Hope all ok with you.

I've already listened to this week's tennis pod argh, now I have nothing tennis-y to look forward to this week! Anyway, they were discussing which players aged over 25, men's and women's, who haven't won a Slam, could win a Slam. If you see what I mean Confused

They are not optimistic for Raonic, Keith, or Dimitrov, and think Isner is more likely than any of those three to win one!!! Shock Thiem is 25 now and they think he will win one.

On the women's side I think it was just Pliskova who they thought might still do it. Interesting discussion. I think anyone can nick a Slam, at any time, tbh. It doesn't take much, just a couple of big names to fall. In theory anyway. I still reckon Ernests could nick one Grin

Raahh · 08/04/2019 15:25

Afternoon, Magi

Interesting about the podcast, Private.
I'm not convinced by Isner- I know he keeps winning things, but then he kind of disappears again. And isn't he 33? Even today, that's getting on a bit in tennis terms.

Sadly, they are probably right about Milos- 2016 was his best year, and since then it's all gone a bit pear shaped. It's scary really, how quickly the time has gone! Grigor goes off the boil often, not always injury related, he just seems to go from highs to lows. Keith has come back fighting this year, but I'm not sure he will win big now.

Thiem's best chance is RG, obviously, and that's not an easy task whilst Rafa still has any life left at all in his knees.

Ernests for Wimbledon Grin!

Wouldn't that be great? Grin

Of course, I have been known to jinx everyone I support.

Tennis
PrivateIsles · 08/04/2019 17:20

That would be brilliant Raahh Grin

Honestly, I really dream of the day someone like that with loads of talent just comes along and blasts everyone off the court in an unexpected march to the Wimbledon title, when everyone thought their career was all but over. It'd be brilliant. PS must be someone I like Grin

No, I don't see Milos winning a slam either unfortunately. Unless he stays fit enough to nick one in the lean years between Rafa/Fed/Djok retiring and before Stefanos and Co start winning everything. He's probably always got an outside chance of Wimbledon if he's fit. But a slim chance though, I have to admit.

Oh also I saw Nicolas Almagro has either actually retired or announced he is about to retire. I liked watching him, great backhand especially - and he always seemed a nice guy as well.

PrivateIsles · 08/04/2019 17:24

PS speaking of Grigor (sort of), he's taken a wildcard into Barcelona. Is that a 250? Presume he just wants matches on clay?

Raahh · 08/04/2019 17:41

Brave of Grigor, I'd have thought he'd have gone some where like Munich may be if it's just to get match play on clay. Barcelona is a 500, and attracts some big names.Nishikori, Tsitsipas and Thiem are all going to be in Barcelona.

Plus, Rafa has won it 11 times. And has a court named after him.

PrivateIsles · 08/04/2019 18:05

I always think it's Madrid where Rafa has the court named after him! Hmm yes in that case, that is quite adventurous of Grigor. Good luck to him!

Raahh · 08/04/2019 19:05
Grin

Good luck indeed.

Who knows, Grigor might surprise us all. Grin

PrivateIsles · 08/04/2019 21:38

I really hope so - that would be great!

Just seen that Tsonga won today, yay - on clay in Marrakech. Kyle Edmund is playing there as well AFAIK.
