Not sure if there is a thread already, but just incase, has anyone else seen it?

I'm amazed that it got to that point. Those tents!! That's sandwich!

youngestisapsycho · 28/01/2019 12:57

Is it a documentary/true story?

DailyMailcanfuckthefuckoff · 28/01/2019 13:05

Yes youngest, it's a documentary about the monumental fuck-up that happened last year - the world's first "influencer" festival advertised by all the top models as an exclusive and luxury festival, which turned into thousands of people stuck in hurricane tents with no electricity or food.

Also... the Evian water story Shock

DailyMailcanfuckthefuckoff · 28/01/2019 13:06

Just to add - it's a GREAT documentary! Interviews with all the people centrally involved (except the creator, who is now in court); you really see how it snowballed into such a disaster.

Biancadelriosback · 28/01/2019 13:18

Omg the water story. That bloke! I don't care how screwed my mates were, no way would I offer to suck a dick to get some water through customs!

DailyMailcanfuckthefuckoff · 28/01/2019 13:22

In a job interview: "Describe a time when you went the extra mile to solve a problem at work"

Can you imagine!!!

Winterfellismyhome · 28/01/2019 13:31

The Evian story is nuts, cant believe he was actually going to do it!

Winterfellismyhome · 28/01/2019 13:32

And starting another scam whilst on bail 🤦‍♀️

Biancadelriosback · 28/01/2019 13:33

Daily GrinGrin

Cmagic7 · 28/01/2019 16:27

I enjoyed it - but proper car crash stuff. It was the unpaid staff I ended up feeling really sorry for. That lovely catering lady who paid 50,000 of her own money to her staff and was ruined as a result has a go-fund-me page which has so far raised over 200,000 dollars!

Biancadelriosback · 28/01/2019 17:14

It was amazing that she was able and willing to pay her staff out of her savings. But yes, while I was "can't-look-away-so-bad-so-good" TV, there were genuine people who suffered from Billy what's his face and his squad

noblegiraffe · 28/01/2019 17:20

I started watching it expecting to get bored and turn off but it just kept getting worse and worse. Those tents! The rain! The guests pissing on other mattresses to stop people taking tents next to them. Shock

And then when I expected it to finish, Billy Liar starts on his next hustle.

I felt so sorry for the Bahamians. They did all that work in good faith and lost out. At the time I remember thinking it was funny that all those rich kids didn’t get the luxury holiday they were hoping to lord over everyone, but actually it was pretty devastating for the workers.

Biancadelrioisback · 28/01/2019 17:25

Just shows the power that "influencers" can have. Have they or are they changing the law about that? So now they need to say if they are being paid in some way for promoting something?

I think it says a lot about the American society now, there seems to be a lack of critical thinking and obsession with social media personalities.

I don't understand why the employees didn't walk away, it was obviously never going to work, the line up was ridiculously crap and anyone could have told them the logistics were a non starter

And, yes, the water story is frankly unbelievable

noblegiraffe · 28/01/2019 17:48

Why would a guy with a 30 year career go on Netflix and say that’s what he was prepared to do if it wasn’t true?

CryptoFascist · 28/01/2019 18:11

That Evian story. I did NOT think he was going to end it the way he did! 😱

Parthenope · 28/01/2019 18:18

I've only watched as far as the first attendees arriving at the campsite, but I'm finding it almost unwatchably stressful!

I assume the reason many of the staff stayed on board is because they were (a) owed money and (b) lots of big events look like a car crash until at the last minute things are pulled off, and everyone hides the fact that it was touch and go.

And yes, the Evian story??? I thought the point of the anecdote was going to be that he'd felt so demeaned at being asked to do a sexual favour to get past customs duties that he'd gone home and taken a shower and used mouthwash to feel less unclean about it all -- when he said he did those things because he was on his way to offer the port manager a blowjob, DH and I rewound because we thought we'd misunderstood!

I'm not sure I can face watching the rest of it...

Winterfellismyhome · 28/01/2019 19:04

I thought the same! @parth

Im also surprised that Ja Rule hasn't been charged with anything. He seemed pretty involved.

DailyMailcanfuckthefuckoff · 28/01/2019 20:13

YES @Winterfell

I don't know if it's the way the documentary was filmed, but it came across to me like he was very involved, at least as bad as the guy now facing charges.

Trampire · 28/01/2019 20:31

Me and dd (14) watched this yesterday. I didn't know much about it. Dd said she'd vaguely heard about it.

What an amazing documentary and what a story!! Dd was really interested in it from an Instagram viewpoint - how unreal most things actually are.

They had an idea and sold it before anyone had any idea about what it actually was and how to achieve it.
And yes, I wonder why Ja Rule isn't in the clink too.

Biancadelriosback · 28/01/2019 21:14

Apparently there is another doc out there, I think Hulu maybe? About Fyre festival as well and it's supposed to be really good. I don't think I can watch another one so soon but will definitely try and watch in future

Cherrypie32 · 28/01/2019 21:37

Was hooked even though I didn’t think I would be when DH put it on. What a car crash. What a scam!

Scandaloso · 28/01/2019 21:43

The dick sucking guy (Andy?) was great. I'm amazed he admitted to that story on camera though! Grin

But what an almighty fuck up. Too many men, that was the problem. Glad Billy was sent to the clink. The scam he was running post Fyre, falsely selling tickets for the US Open etc, not even dressing up his thievery at that stage.

I read that the restaurant woman who was left out of pocket has had $150,000 raised for her via a Gofund me. She was the only one I pitied. The guest laughing about slashing tents so no one would be near them? Fucking obnoxious.

Scandaloso · 28/01/2019 21:45

AND WHY WAS ONE OF THEM MEN CALLED MDAVID?

MDAVID?

Grin Grin

noblegiraffe · 28/01/2019 21:47

I kept waiting for MDavid to be addressed by his name to hear how they pronounced it. Thought it was a typo first time it came up on screen!

donajimena · 28/01/2019 21:50

I watched it after seeing this thread. I can believe the Evian story. I don't think he could quite believe how low (ahem) he was prepared to go. I'm so glad the woman got her money back.
I organise events occasionally and you have to prepare to pull the plug if necessary. I can't believe how far they let it go.
