Yes - it seems that the writers now want the audience to doubt Ruby's version of events, which feels a bit wrong.

It’s weird because the story was down so well. It was very realistic the way everyone (in the soap) had different perspective on why it was or wasn’t rape and all gossiping their own theories etc. Exactly like the social media comments I see under rape reports in the news.

This new story seems very out of the blue.

Also, the man seemed very shocked when she apologised and said he should do whatever he needed to do. It looked like he was having second thoughts but maybe I’ve misread that.

I have just watched Ruby with that chap in the park and it does seem as though this is what they saying - she came onto him one christmas (grabbing his etc etc) they had a brief relationship then she had to fire him and they split up. Its either revenge for losing his job ( now his knows about what happened to her since) or his thought about it and now wants to take her to court for sexual harassment a while after all this went on. At the club she did make advances to the one man that she liked, but the other man at the party did rape her ( although none of this was shown on screen )
It will muddy the waters if they show the footage of CCTV of her with the first man in the club as they will say ;' this is what she's like' and she is a after men for only sex, makes them uncomfortable and so on. I think he just wants revenge, but i guess its a grey area - she admitted to stacey she had many one night stands and relationships in the past as well. If she is capable of sexual assault would be done to a jury to decide i suppose? She did go out with this man - would that go in her favour? its all quite complicated really, but some woman are just as capable of being the abusers as men can be!

Yes I think you’re right 80s. I think that’s what will happen. He will be called as a witness in the rape trial and will tell them what she did to him. It will collapse the case. His timing is perfect isn’t it. Almost like it was planned. I’m still not convinced he is genuine.

Yes the ruby story now has a twist. If she was a male boss everyone would say they were a sleeze

It shouldn’t be any diff with diff sexes

And agree she seemed really sorry and maybe she did do sexual assault

I wonder what the statistics are for men taking women to court for abuse ( be it sexual or otherwise) ? i bet its far higher the other way around. very interesting and shows this in a new light!
Kat is another character that has been shown coming on to men a lot in the past as well!

It will be a shame though as i do believe that she was raped by the other man at the party.
its all food for thought though - when its women eyeing up men or being ' suggestive' or grabbing them or whatever its all ' bantz' and a bit of fun etc etc, but if a man does it, its seen as sleazy and perverted and they are ' only after one thing'
who'd want to be a jury member on that case? his timing is a bit suspect, probably been paid off by martin's friends to help their case and he just wants revenge etc.

If they are using Ruby’s story to show that women assault men too then it really disappointed. It’s a valid story but it should have been done in its own right with different characters. An existing Male character that we all know would be good. Piggy backing it onto Ruby’s story completely destroys the very important storyline it was. Why can’t they just have a woman says she was raped and this is the fallout from it? Why do they need to undermine it? Women being raped are undermined enough in real life. We don’t need it reinforced on screen. We need the opposite.

Did Dean get away with raping Linda as well? i agree that is all going to muddy the waters - a lot of people might have forgotten what happened to Ruby last year and does seem a bit 'added on' to the story now. Would this go to court in real life? would there be enough evidence other than the CCTV at the club ( if it still exists)
They could have had Kat as' sexual pervert' any number of years since shes been in the soap. she chatted up that bloke the other day and made him look a bit worried! men and women have to be so careful these days.

Men probably dont come forward as much as its probably just rejected or they dont want to lose face? Maybe more will go the police now its been proven that women can be capable of DV or worse? I have a family member who was abused , not in a physical sense but just by how she treated him and what she used to say to him and so on. He didn't leave her and he should have done ( many years ago) he died last year and i feel sad that he put up with so much rubbish over the years when he didnt have to and could have had a much happier life without her in it.

Yes Kats behaviour has been terrible in the past, that ep were she grabbed Ted and rammed his head into her boobs, he staggered away while everyone laughed, it’s really odd they never addressed that.

I have seen women as a ' braying mob' at hen dos and the like ; was years ago now but passed off as ' having a laugh'. As Kat did with the man in club! My idea of hell is a male stripper night but lots of women love this type of thing!

Just caught up, shame about story line with Ruby. Guess it shows how much thing have changed in both sides even in a few years. Not talking about obvious assault but with Jay and photos and concent and authority lots more for “younger” people to think about all time. Not just “old” Martin that struggles with the new world order.

Fogot Mas soldhis share. How were girls planning work out what was profit after wages, costs and other over heads? Business rates must be huge and their insurence.

I don’t honk Bailey has done a whole week of school since we met her. Yet twins are never at home.

meow - I wondered exactly the same thing about Lily, but according to Radio Times cast list it was Aine Garvey who played her, and Google shows pics of the Lily we've had for years now.

Oh poor Jean, my heart went out to her in last night's episode. Having to listen to everyone else having her illness under perfect control while she is so frightened.

I wonder how they will develop the relationship between Honey and Adam. He corrected her misuse of 'inspiration' when she should have said 'aspiration'. She doesn't seem to mind though...Hmm

Gillian Wright as Jean is one of the best actors in the show and doing a fab job with this story.

I expect the relationship with Honey and the gorgeous dentist to end by Easter when she realises how 'evil' he is, then she'll get back with Billy by early summer. Middle class people don't stay for long in EE (just like in the real East End of course Hmm).

I’m guessing Jeans story will tie in with Stacey leaving for maternity leave somehow. Maybe they’ll go off to the coast for some fresh air and recuperation for Jean.
