Who else is watching?

I missed first 15 mins and desperately trying to catch up (don't have iPlayer). Either I missed a season or there a several new faces!

If anyone could give a brief recap I'd appreciate it.

Brief recap

  • new characters who aren't introduced to audience
  • increasingly hammy acting
  • politically-correct messaging in storyline
  • sheer flights of fantasy "I've been offered the role of head of faculty at UCL". Really? Show us your innovative teaching methods, peer reviewed papers, impact, strategies for student recruitment, engagement and employability, institutional-level change management and commitment to the EDI agenda and we might start to believe you. Or you could swan in, give a guest lecture, breathe deep the air of academe and think... yes, this is the cushty soft job for me.

Sorry... rant over Grin

It's totally gone weird since earlier series but I'll still watch.

Violetroselily · 09/01/2019 07:32

Which new characters haven't been introduced?

The police, victims etc change each week... there's no new core characters as far as I can see Confused

Dulra · 09/01/2019 08:04

KitchenDancefloor I know where you are coming from but park the political correctness that they are shoe horning in and I thought so far it was an improvement on last series. They must have been reading previous posts on here because they are actually letting the police inspectors do the lion share of the investigation and they seem to be sticking to the forensics and post mortems. Wasn't massively impressed though with the trailer bit at the end of what is to come some of it appears to be very far fetched and as for Nicky's American love interest looking to run for US President Hmm

SaturdayNext · 09/01/2019 08:07

Another one here mystified by the reference to new characters - I didn't see any.

Something tells me that the threat to the continued existence of the Lyell (not sure if that's spelt right) is going to be averted. That's not a spoiler, they keep banging on about it in the trailers.

RedForShort · 09/01/2019 09:30

Oh how funny, I turned on where the man walked into the room and said "I'm the new SIO" ; so for whatever reason I though he and the short dark haired woman were new characters.

Anyway, I was hoping for a summary as to what had happened at the beginning.

Only attacks I saw was the woman who is missing- she got sick and then was attacked, and at the end he got sick and was attacked. Couldn't figure out his part in the plot. (Got hers). With the first murder waa it simliar. Being sick first?

There's a (not very flattering) review in the Guardian online.

Violetroselily · 09/01/2019 10:03

I've only watched the first half hour, but in summary:

-Evie (?) receives phone call on helpline from someone saying they are going to slit someone's throat. She calls 999 to report it but the police find no one at the phonebox where the call was made
-Transman (can't remember characters name) has throat slit in public toilet. PM shows he has been sick beforehand
-Evie then goes missing

That's as far as I have seen

KitchenDancefloor · 09/01/2019 11:32

Re the new characters not being introduced (I was MNing at the time so may have missed it) but it was the woman with short dark hair who seems to be part of the team, not the police. I don't remember her, but I did tune out a bit at the end of the last series.

Also the person who was commenting on costs/budget at the start - was that the same person.

And the other thing I may have missed- do we know what happened to the woman in the toilet cubical who was present for the first murder?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 09/01/2019 11:34

They should either let it die or reboot completely.

SaturdayNext · 09/01/2019 13:46

Person talking about costs was an accountant/auditor, I think.

Woman with short dark hair is definitely police, not another forensic scientist. I've seen the actor before - she was one of the leads in London's Burning, many moons ago, and also in Waterloo Road.

You can tell my TV choices aren't exactly highbrow, can't you?

Auldspinster · 09/01/2019 14:29

Head pathologist guy was Evie's hot artist husband in House of Elliot.

InternetRandomer · 09/01/2019 14:41

@SaturdayNext but did you also recognise the nightclub woman who went into the toilets as Chantelle from Holby City? She’s not been mentioned again though which is odd.

SaturdayNext · 09/01/2019 17:11

Ah, for some reason Holby City has passed me by. Yes, nightclub woman does seem to have disappeared from human knowledge. I suspect her function was to mislead us into thinking she was going to be the victim and, having done that, the writers have no further interest.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 09/01/2019 21:08

Rewatching with DH who missed t yesterday.
The state of those loos!

Really?

Calzone · 09/01/2019 22:52

@auldspinster

I think you have mixed your actors up.

Aden Gillet was in House of Elliott.
Richard Lintern is in Silent Witness.

I might be wrong though.

Starlight90 · 09/01/2019 23:04

Im watching the 1st episode now, 40 mins in and ive had enough. Tis very boring.

Loved SW but I think its run its course

KitchenDancefloor · 10/01/2019 00:27

That poor woman.

She's probably still snivelling into the cistern next to the first murder scene, waiting for someone to offer her a hot sweet cup of tea and a debrief that may have solved the whole thing in half an episode.

Or maybe she was a ghost as no one saw her on cctv.

Or I may have missed the bit where that plot hole was sewn up as I was MNing through tonight's episode again.

Auldspinster · 10/01/2019 07:55

Aden Gillet was Beatrice's husband, Richard Lintern was Evie's husband.

Calzone · 10/01/2019 07:58

@auldspinster. Apologies

You are completely right 🤭🤭🤭

TheWashingFairyatemyhamster · 10/01/2019 08:24

I love that Silent Witness is now so dull that it is more entertaining to discuss minor characters from a period drama that hasn’t been on TV for over 20 years.

Auldspinster · 10/01/2019 10:00

He's alright looking now but Richard Lintern was smoking hot in the House of Elliot.

mydogisthebest · 10/01/2019 13:22

I watch but it does annoy me. Since when did pathologists do the police's work? They go trotting off to look for the missing woman when the police should be doing that.

It annoyed me that the woman who took the call on the helpline when asked if the called was a man or woman said along the lines of "oh we don't use male and female. Well bloody shame they don't because if she had just said the caller was female the police would not have wasted so much time with the 2 males would they?

hopeishere · 10/01/2019 13:29

I agree that they have read threads on here!! There was a definite move back to the pathology.

brassbrass · 10/01/2019 14:23

Really badly written, made me cringe at times. Trying to spotlight current affairs but is so cack handed and patronising it fails. I guessed who it was before the reveal.

brassbrass · 10/01/2019 14:27

And absolutely NO ONE in real life hugs a toilet like that when throwing up. Why do they always show it like that on TV and in films. When they put whatsherface in the cell of all the places she could have crumpled she decided to do it right next to the toilet. Can you imagine how grim a cell toilet would be and the floor around it? FFS
