21 kids and counting

Just watching the latest episode - how on earth do they afford to run that household? iPhones for the kids, holidays to Spain for 20 people, a new kitchen.

There is no way a bakery would generate that much money. Would channel 4 really pay that well for their participation in the programme?

threads on this subject are clearly being noted elsewhere, and individual posters are responsible for what they post.

I find this quite worrying. Does this mean Mumsnet are going to give out our details to a 3rd party?

On the subject or f the Radfords, it must be very difficult to read other people's opinions, because we don't all see things the same. A perfect example in this thread alone is with the paella incident. For me I think it's awful to set a young child up to be distressed for your own amusement, but plenty of people on here think that's fine. I do somewhat agree with the 'courting publicity' sentiment though. I mean none of these comments would be here had the Radford not given us the footage in the first place. It's all good and well when people are being supportive, but the minute someone says 'hmm, that's not right' they don't want the comments? They really can't have it all ways. They have sold themselves as a brand and people have lapped it up. I'm sure the same management personnel that are trying to contain the latest 'bad' publicity have discussed at length and prepared the family for this though.

GobblersKnob · 06/01/2019 18:10

I'm sure a poster got sued before, and legally MN was forced to give their details in order to do so. Allegedly. Maybe. Unless my memory is shite. I'm sure I remember reading the whole thread in the uni library a couple of years ago when I should have been writing an essay.

SaturdayNext · 06/01/2019 18:22

It sounds like MN are getting solicitors’ letters, I suspect in relation to comments based on Sue’s age at the time of her first pregnancy. I also suspect someone has taken fright about the Mail’s headline highlighting this, and is desperately trying to protect the brand.

KylieJennersTopLip · 06/01/2019 18:22

I'm sure MNHQ had to pull a few threads before because the Radford lawyers wrote some threatening letters.

Again, this thread is posted on the TV section and is purely a discussion around the content of a TV show we have seen - and it's previous episodes, including but not limited to social media content, news articles, sponsored ads and vblogs made or endorsed by the Radfords. They want people to watch and like and comment on their content as they get paid for interaction.

We are voicing our opinion on shows and content they have approved and aired on mainstream TV for our viewing. We are perfectly entitled to watch them in the media they have craved, sought out and brought into their home and been paid for and come to our own conclusions.

Had we thought they were brilliant, we would have posted that, just because the reviews here are negative doesn't mean she can throw her toys out of one of her 30 prams.

I stick by everything I have posted here.
The fact that an 18 year old got a 13 year old pregnant (and was possibly in a sexual relationship with her before the instance where she became pregnant) is disgusting, immoral and illegal. The act of an adult having sex with a child should, in my opinion, class him as a child sex offender.

They now have tens of children living under their very crowded roof and uses them for financial gain through TV and social media sponsorship. It's not nice to see.

The fact is that he has** then got her pregnant for most of her reproductive life since this initial sexual abuse when she was 13, so regularly that they now have 21 children which is also very sad and very wrong.

There is no way in my opinion that a parent with 21 children can meet the emotional, educational, physical and psychological needs of each and every child.

The strain on the environment and also of their local resources, NHS, benefits (which they have admitted to claiming even if it is just child benefit) and educational institutions is sickeningly selfish.

Sue has said she is addicted to having babies. Such an addiction is very harmful for all of the reasons listed above but also for her own physical / mental health and potentially that of any further children. I feel very sad and sorry for her.

That's what I got from the TV show and other content they've produced. Had I watched an episode of East Enders with the same story line I would be equally outraged and upset by the content and I'm sure the bbc would add an 'if you've been affected by any of the issues / themes in tonight's show you can find help on these issues at www.examplehelporganisation.com

Beaverhausen · 06/01/2019 18:25

There is voicing your opinion and being right nasty and degrading on a family that has absofuckinglutely nothing to do with your life.

I sometimes sit back and read some of these threads and wonder how pitiful most some posters lives be for them to be this disgusting.

SaturdayNext · 06/01/2019 18:27

If MN get a letter about potential libel proceedings, they have to contact whoever wrote the offending post and give them the option of either handing over their details or having the post deleted. If the poster doesn’t respond they delete the post anyway. That may be why some posts on here have disappeared.

SaturdayNext · 06/01/2019 18:30

Kylie, when you’re posting about facts you need to know that Neol was 17 when Sue got pregnant at 13, not 18.

Deadringer · 06/01/2019 18:36

It's a tv programme, they only show the parts of their lives that they want people to see. Once they put it out there people are going to have an opinion on it, and critique it just like any other tv show.

Limer · 06/01/2019 18:43

Hear, hear Kylie

...doesn't mean she can throw her toys out of one of her 30 prams Grin Grin Grin

KylieJennersTopLip · 06/01/2019 18:46

Then maybe the Radfords should inform the big news papers who are reporting him as 18, including in their headlines.

He would have turned 18 in the December and the child was born the following May.
It's still disgusting. She had just turned 14 at the end of the March before she gave birth Envy

KittensAndCake · 06/01/2019 18:47

just because the reviews here are negative doesn't mean she can throw her toys out of one of her 30 prams.

Another 🤣 from me 😂

Today 18:05 potatoscone

“threads on this subject are clearly being noted elsewhere, and individual posters are responsible for what they post.”

‘I find this quite worrying. Does this mean Mumsnet are going to give out our details to a 3rd party?’

Well.... wouldn’t be the first time posters details haven’t been protected would it?! Grin

candlefloozy · 06/01/2019 18:54

I enjoyed it. Having just one child bigger families always amazes me. Someone said about them not being able to pursue extra curricular activities but I didn't do any as a child. Can't say it's affected me in anyway. I think they're all fed clothed and loved maybe not always in a one to one way but the siblings seem to really love each other as they've got older.

eddiemairswife · 06/01/2019 18:59

I haven't watched any of the programmes, but know about them from the newspapers and Radio Times.
When she had the first baby at 14, did she stay living at home with her parents?
When did she move in with her husband? are they actually married?

louise5754 · 06/01/2019 19:04

I'm sure they missed out Max when they were naming all of their kids x

GerryblewuptheER · 06/01/2019 19:06

I think they're all fed clothed and loved maybe not always in a one to one way but the siblings seem to really love each other as they've got older

Oh I've no doubt they are loved. Dont think anyone's said otherwise. The girls especially should be really proud of themselves.

In fact i think the kids have dealt with the limelight very very well . It cannot have been easy.

That doesn't mean the choices of their parents are necessarily the right ones though

ILoveMaxiBondi · 06/01/2019 19:07

He would have turned 18 in the December and the child was born the following May.
It's still disgusting. She had just turned 14 at the end of the March before she gave birth

And are we to believe he didn’t have sex with her at all between the December when he turned 18 and 2 years later when she turned 16?

louise5754 · 06/01/2019 19:09

And they said 14 kids live at home but I thought only the eldest 2 have moved out so that's still only 16 kids?

Brittanyspears · 06/01/2019 19:20

What KylieJenner said sums it up

louise5754 · 06/01/2019 19:31

The paella was just a bit of a joke.

If I was decorating in the bathroom and 3 kids came in I'd be a lot worse than him.

I think they are amazingly calm.

RoadrunnerMeepMeep · 06/01/2019 19:35

I noticed that too @louise5754

RoadrunnerMeepMeep · 06/01/2019 19:36

About them missing out max I mean

KittensAndCake · 06/01/2019 19:36

I didn't think the paella joke was at all funny, it was cruel and unnecessary BUT I didn't see the issue with him telling them to get out of the bathroom or the row over the sat-nav wasn't anything either.

Belindabauer · 06/01/2019 20:06

If actually be intrigued if they rocked up in the same hotel as me ☺ does that make me insane?
Years ago on holiday there was a woman from Ireland with 6 kids ( all boys) and I found then fascinating. I thought the woman was a single parent until I got talking to her and it turned out her husband was there but propped the bar up virtually all day and night!
The children were lovely.

evaperonspoodle · 06/01/2019 20:55

I'd be intrigued too, I'd be interested to see if the program depicted them in a true light or whether it was edited just to show the hectic/loud bits.
