21 kids and counting

Just watching the latest episode - how on earth do they afford to run that household? iPhones for the kids, holidays to Spain for 20 people, a new kitchen.

There is no way a bakery would generate that much money. Would channel 4 really pay that well for their participation in the programme?

The older ones just languishing at home in their rooms, I got the impression that any desire to move out or gain independence was thrwarted by the parents. One good example was Chloe at Uni, I heard Noel say that they don't need to work elsewhere of something to that effect, when they can work in the pie shop.

livupq · 06/01/2019 13:37

And how can one pie shop support so many?
Really don’t understand why the don’t push the kids more in education, hobbies etc... surely showing how talented the kids were would help their tv program.

evaperonspoodle · 06/01/2019 13:40

What was odd was that they just went on and on about treasuring the moment they bring a new baby home. That seemed to be the thing they were addicted to. They didn’t go on about any other milestones - just introducing the new one to the brood

I think they need to take this issue to a therapist to find out the root cause. As you say they never say they look forward to their first steps, first day at school, wedding etc, the magical moment is always bringing them home.

GerryblewuptheER · 06/01/2019 13:40

Where are all the customers too? Have you seen the online prices?

Be easier and cheaper to buy some puff pastry and some stewing steak. Where does all the money come from.

The uniform bill and gets bills for the d of would cripple most people surely?
God knows I spent best part of 500 quid kitting out 2 ...

GerryblewuptheER · 06/01/2019 13:41

Vets bills for the dogs

Calvinsmam · 06/01/2019 13:43

Don’t they make money from the programmes and surely they have instagrams and whatnot where they’ll get money for promoting things etc.

comebacksoonsusan · 06/01/2019 13:45

Imagine how much screeching goes on when the cameras aren't there.

GerryblewuptheER · 06/01/2019 13:46

Now yes.

But the whole point was taht they are self supporting.

How?

There were a fair few kids before the cameras. And that bakery cannot have kept them all going not will it co time to do so.

Especially since the web site doesn't appear to have been updated in a while.

livupq · 06/01/2019 13:46

The shows are so dull though... I’d be suprised if it can support them indefinitely. But then I doubt I’m the target audience.

Do any people actually look up to them?

EdWinchester · 06/01/2019 13:54

This programme just left me feeling incredibly sad for the children in that family. Their needs can't possibly be met in any way. I can't see a single positive.

I would question the parents' mental state of mind, tbh.

Calvinsmam · 06/01/2019 13:55

I don’t think it’s about people looking up to them, you don’t need to be looked up to make money from magazines, Instagram, and the likes, you just need to have a big audience, which they do.
They are a bit of a curiosity item but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a big audience.
I mean even my 85 year old grandma and my 15 year old niece knows who they are.

The cynic in me wonders if that’s why they keep having babies too, they get a new wave of publicity every time they do.
(I’m sure that’s not the full reason but it might be a factor).

DickTurpinsHat · 06/01/2019 13:57

This thread isn't nasty at all. Someone needs to tell those parents to stop having children, grow the fuck up, be responsible and actually parent the kids they already have.

All this nicey nicey bollocks is just telling them to continue procreating.

Oh and I looked up the Manchester evening news thing on fb as someone posted about Way, Way upthread. Looking at the profiles of the people defending and fawning over them puts most people in two different camps. Sorry if this offends but it seems to be a divide between educated and uneducated people. I'll let you decide who is in which camp.

bringbacksideburns · 06/01/2019 13:58

I was referring to previous THREADS people have alluded to being zapped in the past.

Why are you being confrontational and argumentative with me again?

I'll use Mumsnet if I wish thanks all the same. I don't need you to decide for me.

bringbacksideburns · 06/01/2019 14:06

Ah! And now you are thick and uneducated if you don't believe they are abusive monsters.

I see Confused

Wow.

KittensAndCake · 06/01/2019 14:06

How can somebody not believe in reading? Its not a religion.

It's very odd but the pair of them don't come across as very bright and Sue must've left school at 13, so her education must be very basic. But I also wonder if the lack of books is to stop the kids getting any aspirational ideas and thereby stunting their want/need to go off into the big wide world.

I didn't think the children were pasty or had scruffy hair, they all seem basically ok and looked after. I just don't think their individual needs are met as there are just too many of them.

orangecushion · 06/01/2019 14:07

Perhaps its is an unkind thing to say about children. This family seem to massively divide opinions. I think its absolutely horrible the way they have a pathological desire to have children. There is absolutely no way it is a wholesome and healthy thing.

I wasn't being anything of the sort.

I wasn't.

Wow.*

Do you think they are making good choices for their kids?

SusanWalker · 06/01/2019 14:13

Imagine trying to find somewhere to sit and read quietly or do your homework though.

AlaskanOilBaron · 06/01/2019 14:17

Terribly sad for the kids involved.

What’s this they don’t believe in reading? What does that even mean?

I wonder how much support the DC's get when its exam time. Imagine trying to study or get a early night in that house!

evaperonspoodle · 06/01/2019 14:24

If and when they can't have any more children their addiction will move onto something else. There was a period of time when there was a gap between the children, I remember Sue saying that 'this pregnancy has been very anticipated by everyone' and I wonder did this gap coincide with them getting the 5 dogs that a pp pointed out?

I follow 2 of the families that were with them on 16 KAC and they both started collecting puppies when they stopped having babies. The Freer family I believe has 5 or 6 dogs (that they breed) and the same amount of cats.

PuddingandPie2 · 06/01/2019 14:28

Having 21 children wouldn't be my choice however each to their own!
I find it interesting to watch these shows, can't say I agree with some of their methods of parenting.
I wonder if they wanted to buy the property they are attached to for more space? Did I read it was being turned into flats?
