Does anyone know when it’s on?

Loved Patrick pogo-ing at the end.

Right person went.

In answer to poster upthread - actually using an overlocker is a doddle. You can use it on lots of seams as it gives a neat finish. It's the setting up and threading which is the hard bit.

DarlingNikita · 20/02/2019 11:26

Patrick has a hoodie?? Yeah, I don't believe that for a second either. I'm sceptical about Esme having one too, TBH.

I didn't think the colour of Patrick's jacket did anything for him. A rare

misstep.

I won't really miss Sheila. Some of the others are better and more interesting. Good on her about turning fifty and saying yes to things though (and I couldn't believe she was fifty; she looks amazing).

This week was a bit weird, IMO, and most of the faux-fur things put my teeth on edge.

Mercedes is a bit hearty and tiring. Tom is a limp dishrag. Leah needs to chill a bit. I wasn't surprised to hear that she's into ballet seeing as it tends to attract people inclined to self-criticism and overachieving. I thought her swan costume was generally good but those grey feathers ruined it a bit –they looked dingy and dusty.

Roll on next week!

Frenchfancy · 20/02/2019 12:52

Found you.

I was annoyed last night at Esme judging hat boy for not using an overlocker - saying that it would fray in the first wash. It won't. It is knit fabric and doesn't fray. His choice of a twin needle when there is lots of fabric to go through was a good one imo.

glamorousgrandmother · 20/02/2019 14:01

Yes French it is perfectly OK to sew knits without an overlocker (I always used to before I got on overlocker and sometimes still do) but maybe, for the purposes of the competition, they wanted to see people use one.

Frenchfancy · 20/02/2019 15:05

I agree they wanted to see the contestants use the overlocker - it was the comment about the knits fraying in the wash that annoyed me. Maybe Esme doesn't do her laundry!

glamorousgrandmother · 20/02/2019 15:25

It was a silly comment.

LIZS · 20/02/2019 16:15

Presumably the pattern instructions asked them to use an overlocker.

DarlingNikita · 20/02/2019 16:50

I think she was told to say it as part of the 'narrative' created for that episode, which was that Tom Didn't Do Very Well But Saved Himself.

DarlingNikita · 20/02/2019 16:55

I mean BEN, not Tom. Hat boy.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 20/02/2019 16:58

Just chanced upon this lady on Youtube

She talks about the sewing bee garments and seeks out similar commercial patterns

All of this is beyond my skill level (dusters, anyone?), but I didn't know if any of you gingham-apron-queens would be interested

SoupDragon · 20/02/2019 16:58

I think it was because of the instructions too. They are very hot on the fact that instructions Must Be Followed. People fallfoul of this every time.

IStillMissBlockbuster · 20/02/2019 17:37

I'm catching up on the latest episode, but the way Joe said you just cut out 12 patterns, sew the front to the back, attach the sleeves then the ribbing. It just made it sound so easy! It's not though is it! I get stuck cutting out the damn patterns because I don't understand wtf the bias is...

Binglebong · 20/02/2019 18:22

If you get the Love Sewing eshot they seem to be doing a free sewing bee style download each week. Wiggle dress last week, child's hoody this.

SileneOliveira · 20/02/2019 18:22

They are very hot on the fact that instructions Must Be Followed

Indeed - which is why the people who didn't follow the brief to make animals or mythical creatures were at the bottom of the repurposing challenge.

FuzzyPuffling · 20/02/2019 18:32

The bias...basically the diagonal.
Thread runs straight up and down a piece of cloth, the bias is the corner to corner angle. It makes for fabric that moulds to a shape a bit.

I have completed two Easter chickens. I'll get a photo posted later. I know you are all waiting with bated breath....

IStillMissBlockbuster · 20/02/2019 18:41

Thank you fuzzy. I have had it explained to me before but with the fabric infront of me, it hasn't seemed to click yet...

FuzzyPuffling · 20/02/2019 19:01

Here they are..the first two Easter chickens for hanging on the Easter tree!
