Jeez this is heart breaking 😭

creamcheeseandlox · 03/02/2019 21:23

"There's a grief that can't be spoken". 😥

ShowOfHands · 03/02/2019 21:28

I am very much enjoying the level of accuracy. Enjolras and Grantaire dying holding hands always kills me in the book.

Honeyroar · 03/02/2019 21:39

It's so harsh!

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/02/2019 21:49

It is either Valjean or Javert.

THUNK!

ShowOfHands · 03/02/2019 21:51

As I stare into the void of a world that cannot hold.

He is a brilliant Javert.

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/02/2019 21:59

This bit was glossed over in the musical. Possibly so we wouldn't come away thinking Marius was a bit of a prick.

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/02/2019 22:15

Oh those two little ones begging at the end just about broke my heart.

owlonabike · 03/02/2019 22:16

That was fabulous!

ineedaholidaynow · 03/02/2019 22:17

In tears Sad

Encyclo · 03/02/2019 22:18

Those two little boys Sad

TheSassyAssassin · 03/02/2019 22:19

That was incredible! So moving. What an amazing adaptation. Loved it even though it was such a tough watch...also in tears Sad

Blankscreen · 03/02/2019 22:19

I've never read the book, seen the musical or seen the film. I LOVED this series. Looked forward to it every week and I'm just sad it over.

Honeyroar · 03/02/2019 22:19

Awesome. Very moving. One of the best tv series I've seen for ages.

strangerthongs · 03/02/2019 22:20

curious to know what the recommendations were that Javert made in his letter?

Cause I heard that RL France made changes due to the outcry that Hugo's book created

AliTheMinx · 03/02/2019 22:25

Such a powerful story and phenomenal acting! I hadn't read the book, seen the film or the musical, but loved this adaptation. I don't know what I will do with my Sunday nights now...

Clawdy · 03/02/2019 22:34

One of the recommendations was about prisoners not being made to go barefoot, I think. Seems he was trying to bring in some more humane treatment.

HandsOffMyRights · 03/02/2019 22:49

That was pure class.

Compelling, brilliant acting/direction and, of course, original source material. What a story! It's got me looking up another of my favourite tales, The Mayor of Casterbridge.

I have just re-watched the musical, but preferred this by a country mile.

Well done, Beeb. Not a dry eye in the house tonight.

DesdemonasHandkerchief · 03/02/2019 22:57

Javert's recommendations as detailed in the book.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 03/02/2019 23:13

Absolutely loved it ( I do also like the musical but this was amazing.) So many bits had me welling up, apart from the death of Valjean - Enjolras (why is he always so much better than Marius?), Gavroche, even the death of Javert got me this time.

As for those those two little boys at the end, repeating the cycle of poverty - just heartbreaking.

Lemoneeza · 03/02/2019 23:21

just wow. excellent series. more of it please bbc

beanaseireann · 03/02/2019 23:23

Super series. Dominic West was brilliant.

ChubRubTheStruggleIsReal · 03/02/2019 23:26

Love love loved it!!
But now I have nothing to look forward to... what can I watch next? -no Netflix or similar... damn it!

EnidButton · 04/02/2019 01:40

My heart! 💔

Basically sobbed for an hour with some brief pauses. Gavroche, Enjolras and Grantaire holding hands, the grandfather being teary eyed, even cried at Javert laying his baton (?) and hat down so carefully before jumping.

The two little boys...

I should know but when Rivette reaches for Javert's collar on the carriage and he tells him not to touch him, what was Rivette doing/going to do?

ProudAunty2nine · 04/02/2019 04:34

I have really enjoyed this too, but I love Dominic West and have enjoyed everything I have seen him in.

But, if you want to see a really different DW watch the film Pride, he plays Johnathan Blake ones of the first gay men to be diagnosed HIV in London and he is superbly brilliant in it and has a fantastic dance scene which I can watch over and over again,
