The last Strictly thread is almost full, so in case anyone had a 'just one more thing...' moment, I though you could offload here.

Also, because I'm feeling a bit bereft now SCD and the associated thread banter are no more Glitterball

Checking in as don't want to accept it's all over yet

ManicUnicorn · 17/12/2018 17:08

I know apparently lots of shagging goes on that never makes the papers, which when you consider how obsessed they are with the 'curse' is quite extrodinary. I once heard that when Abbey Clancey did it she ruthlessly pursued Alijaz, despite her being married to Peter Crouch and Alijaz being with Jeanette. Caused a lot of bad feeling, but Alijaz just wasn't interested. He's devoted to Janette, bless him.

dontcallmelen · 17/12/2018 17:36

Hello everyone, sorry dd was very very merry & cant remember much detail 😡 apparently it’s open season most of the time & a lot of shagging goes on, but with whom I don’t really know Joe & Dianne we’re pretty much on from the go & Katya & Neil are a very modern couple, whatever that means.
As for the rest your guess is as good as mine, sorry that dd is such a disappointing/rubbish reporter, I will be having Words
Yy really wish they would have ITT special with the finalists, just seems so unfinished.

noodlenosefraggle · 17/12/2018 18:01

dontcallmemelen What a missed opportunity! Next time tell her to pretend to be drunk to get all the gossip. I think 'a very modern couple' is code for open marriage. I heard that a lot of dancers marriages are open, although they do split up and marry other dancers quite often, so I don't know what the point is of an open marriage if you are going to get divorced and marry another dancer anyway?

ManicUnicorn · 17/12/2018 18:44

Well, Shirley was married to two of her dance partners and engaged to another.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 17/12/2018 20:18

Aha, the Post Mortem thread!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 17/12/2018 20:41

I think Neil and Katya must have an open marriage. He couldn't really seem to care less about her snogging Seann.

backaftera2yearbreak · 17/12/2018 21:25

I put a bet on Jo to win but did it both ways, it’s just paid out so he must have come second (had a bigger bet on Stacey to win thankfully)

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 17/12/2018 21:38

TheOnly For ‘Open’ I’m reading ‘Visa’. Probably well known in SCD circles which is why Katya seemed to get off lightly for the Snog. Seannn, however, didn’t because he was a dirty rotten cheating bastard who WASN’T in an open relationship.

I really wish I could see my way clear to letting this go now.

GodrestyemerrySchadenfreud · 18/12/2018 09:27

I doubt he minded her snogging Sneannn - I do think he probably would have preferred a bit of discretion, so that he wasn't publicly humiliated by their behaviour. And as fleas has said - Sneannn wasn't in an open relationship. The twat.

Stacey and Joe are presenting the BBC New Year's Eve party together. I wonder how they'll do?

SuperSuperSuper · 18/12/2018 13:29

They'll be good, I reckon. She referred to him as her "best pal on the show" so there should be chemistry, and they're both experienced in front of the camera, and likeable.

OneInAMillionYou · 18/12/2018 13:59

Another vote for a wrap up ITT on the Monday after the final.

I haven't enjoyed this season as much as previously. It was very clear Stacey was being set up for the win. The judges marking was ridiculous this year, only Craig seemed able to maintain some appropriate distance.
I really don't think the Head Judge should be standing up at the end of some dances, I also loathed the 'Nan' way she spoke to Joe.

Tess was as rubbish as ever. How I wish John Barrowman would be given the gig, charming, quick witted and an absolute professional.

Bad music choices. Very little appropriate music. Ballroom technique seemed not to matter to anyone other than Craig. Stacey was popular for her personality I think, her routines contained less and less dancing as the series went on.

I sound like a Grinch, but Strictly could be such a wonderful programme. Hopefully the new Producer can go some way to halt the relentless slide into 'Dancing with the Stars' territory.

DarlingNikita · 18/12/2018 14:03

I agree. It all went rather X Factor. The demanding-hugs thing got really fucking weird too. I'm sure someone had a word and that's why it stopped.

SoSobored · 18/12/2018 14:10

I am such a huge strictly fan, but this year was rubbish! I cannot believe that Joe (as sweet as he is) made it to the final. The final was piss poor imo

GrumbleBumble · 18/12/2018 14:16

Annasgirl

saw a pic of Stacey's BF in the DM (I know!!!) and I feel she could do way better (like Kevin??).

Really? Do you know what her BF is like? How he treats her? What he does?

I have know idea on any of the above so will trust her judgement of his suitability over someone who has seen a picture of him in a paper (he has been the audience every week). As Kevin is thrice married (and thrice divorced) he hardly the ideal marriage candidate.

starkid · 18/12/2018 14:19

@SoSoBored - This person was at the final and said Joe's showdance got the biggest audience reaction out of all of them on the night, so I expect the audience is happy he made the final. Not saying someone like Charles wouldn't have also done a good showdance too if he'd made the final though (not so much Lauren).

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 18/12/2018 14:30

OneInAMillionYou absolutely, couldn’t agree more.

Tess gets a lot of stick because she’s in the wrong job. As supporting totty she was fine. And I know that sounds horribly sexist but that’s just how it looked to me. She actually did a brilliant job of making the odious Sir Brucie look competent towards the end of his tenure when he so obviously wasn’t. Yy to John Barrowman, or Lenny Henry maybe? I’d say Dawn French but I think the visuals with Tess towering over her would be unfortunate.

Imho the judges have been getting a bit carried away with themselves. Only Craig has fully maintained his judging integrity. Bruno says some sensible stuff if only he could sit still. Shirley is also kindly and constructive but she needs to be more impartial. Dave, . I don’t know, I thought she would add some much needed gravitas and technical scrutiny but I think the glitter has got into her brain.

The music is ridiculous, I guess they are trying to appeal to a young audience but surely educating them in old classics is just as valuable? I’d luv a Slade Paso! This will get me flamed but if I hear ‘Fever’ again I’ll scream.

I will say that for all I love a festive lurch down Memory Lane - Hold these, will you - Ahh, that’s better, where was I?

Yes, so, the SCD of Yore would be disappointing if we were watching them now. Standard wasn’t as high, sets were a bit Am Dram sometimes. There have been good changes as well as bad, it needs someone to look back and take the best from past series and jettison the silly gimmicks. I think that’s all I have to say.

...

OneInAMillionYou · 18/12/2018 16:03

I'm still awake imaginarycat!

Not wishing to sound like a mutual admiration society, but YES to Lenny Henry. I love him but fear he has become a bit 'serious actorrrrr' lately 😀

The production values are indeed much improved from earlier series, but I could do without irritating props, surplus dancers and mad hair and make up.

I did like the rigour of half the couples doing the same dance as one another, easier to judge more impartially
I think Shirley begging Joe for hugs was borderline harassment - imagine if Len Goodman had done that to one of the younger female celebs, say Louisa Lytton? There would have been an outcry!

ManicUnicorn · 18/12/2018 16:36

I have a fantasy list of Strictly contestants. It includes

Danny Dyer
Richard Madeley
Sheridan Smith
Danni Minogue
Richard Osman
Zara Tindall
Sharon Osbourne
Leona Lewis
Rylan Clark-Neal

At least five of them have turned it down, but they'd be fab.

Samcro · 18/12/2018 16:42

i would love it if they stopped all the "curse" stuff. this year has been so bad for that. (and Sean wasn't married so Katya was worse imo)
I would love Rylan on it , he makes me lol.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 18/12/2018 16:45

Oh my word Fantasy Strictly, now you’re talking, Manic! Love your suggestions. Zara might be sniffy about it, but I bet one of the Yorkies could be persuaded.

Annasgirl · 18/12/2018 18:52

@oneinamillionyou I would love to see John Barrowman do it - he'd be amazing.

Sorry I upset you @grumblebumble - was it the Daily Mail reference?

GrumbleBumble · 18/12/2018 19:14

No it was deciding that someone isn't a good enough partner from a photo.

Snugglepiggy · 18/12/2018 19:17

That's an inspired idea -John Barrowman. The consulate professional.
It's Darcey that's got on my nerves this series for some reason for the first time.If I hear 'oh my gosh ' the content, the draaamah ! the purpose.the intent once more !I actually find Shirleys comments far more constructive.
