I am in absolute stitches watching this show Grin

With Cathy, I think she is the type to turn nasty when her position as queen bee is threatened but they've overplayed it a bit. I think its spot on more than it's off. Christine is just brilliant, I know a few in rl unfortunately Grin

RebootYourEngine · 14/02/2019 13:01

I like two doors down but Cathy is just nasty in this series.

Willyoubuymeahouseofgold · 15/02/2019 16:46

SSSHHHHHHHHH!!! 🤫 Its been a best kept secret for a few, years .. a sitcom that never dips in standard

yearinyearout · 15/02/2019 16:51

Love it. Have you watched Still game? Another one with dry Scottish humour.

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2019 16:54

I spend the whole time tittering at the specificity of the Glasgow humour in some of the one liners. DH (not Scottish) likes it, too, but doesn't get it on quite the same level as me!
I thought it would annoy me that two of the main cast are not actually Scottish (presumably they are of heritage) but I let them off as their accents are very good.

Sarcelle · 15/02/2019 16:55

Which two aren't Scottish?

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2019 16:57

Doon MacKichan (believe it or not!)and Arabella Weir both sound v English in RL!

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2019 16:59

From Wiki:

Weir's performance was criticised by Ben Arnold, writing in The Guardian, who commented "her Scottish accent [is] still a work in progress, it would seem."

AgentProvocateur · 15/02/2019 17:00

Cathy and Beth aren’t Scottish.

Thesuzle · 15/02/2019 17:00

Love it and we are soft southerners !

MrsJackRackham · 15/02/2019 17:00

Doon has the fake Newton Means accent to a tee, even more impressive that she's English.

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2019 17:03

I think it's because people from Newton Mearns try to sound English!

She did live in Fife as a teenager, I am informed by Wikipedia.

Extremecloseup · 15/02/2019 17:05

Doon McKichan lived in Scotland as a teenager but was born in England went back for uni I think.
Don't think Arabella Weir has any Scottish background.

MrsJayy · 15/02/2019 17:09

Lost this thread the last couple of episodes have had me laughing Mondays I was like noooo the rug then Louise showed up and punched Cathy in the face Grin did we all die of the cringe when Christine was talking about the disabled people she knew ?

MrsJayy · 15/02/2019 17:10

Beths accent is fine she sounds like she grew up in Dunblane Grin

HollowTalk · 15/02/2019 17:18

The reference to Cathy being sick (bulimia?) wasn’t funny.

It wasn't a reference to bulimia. Colin said that she hadn't had much to eat because she wanted to leave room for more wine. Then she was being sick and had clearly had too much wine.

MrsJayy · 15/02/2019 17:21

Cathy clearly doesn't eat though if there is any food on the go she always turns her nose up at it and downs the wine and vapes.

diplodocusinermine · 15/02/2019 17:26

Cathy is superbly grotesque. Can imagine the AIBU from Beth 'My snobby neighbours turn up without invitation or prior warning and stay for hours and criticise everything - how do I stop them?'

Loved the episode where Gordon's Mum and Dad visited 'Any other homosexuals in your family, Sandra, or is it just him?'

MrsJayy · 15/02/2019 17:33

I just don't understand why Beth opens her front door I would sit in another room watching tv with subtitles. I reme ber meeting a Cathy at a BBQ she was horrific ive been in her company twice she is the oddest woman who just talks to them men.

LoisWilkerson1 · 15/02/2019 17:53

I did cringe at Christine listing all the disabled folk she knows. I wonder if she should have got a punch as wellGrin I'm finding Michelle is getting better too, she was a bit wooden the first few episodes. I'm shocked Arabelle Weir isn't Scottish. I think she sounds great.

Jaxinthebox · 15/02/2019 17:54

I loved this weeks episode, it was the best. Cathy gets her just dessert.

I think everyone knows a CAthy, a Beth and we all know a Christine. Well, in Scotland, there are definitely English equivalents.

MrsJayy · 15/02/2019 17:58

God yes we all know a christine ! I always wonder what jobs they all do ? I don't think the women except Michelle work

LoisWilkerson1 · 15/02/2019 18:03

I think they are the last generation of house wives. Not many of them about now.
Look I've found us a wee house nearby....comes with a free CathyGrin

BackforGood · 15/02/2019 18:22

GOing against the grain. I've stopped watching it as Cathy's character has just got out of hand. It spoils it. The others are great. I used to enjoy it.

MrsJayy · 15/02/2019 19:34

My husband has stopped watching it too he can't stand her
