Shiny new thread - my apologies to Satsuma for the title, you are the minority!

OP posts:
MozzieMagnet · 25/11/2018 15:37

Put it this way (me again but finally got rid of my halloween name!) I don't think Jason or Pamela lost due to being Australian/NZ born.

CassandraCross · 25/11/2018 15:43

I think nationality does play a part in it on DWTS Ozzy, but that is interesting about IACGMOOH although I think the popularity test on that show is very different.

I note in one of the VTs Ashley did make a comment on how much she loves the UK and how much the UK has given her which may well go in her favour. I still can't see her winning SCD, over the years we've had some very bizarre winners who, in my opinion, no way deserved to win and I have been mystified as to why they did.

dontcallmelen · 25/11/2018 15:44

Yy not really enjoying this season very much, dunno it feels as though the finalists are already done n dusted, Joe/Ashley/Stacey I reckon.
Tess is driving me even more mad than usual, think Zoe & Claud would be excellent combination.

CassandraCross · 25/11/2018 15:47

No, I don't think Jason or Pamela didn't win due to them being Australian or NZ born but I still think Ashley being American will slightly go against her in the final.

Wolfcub · 25/11/2018 16:15

Interesting Mozzie. I wonder if Brendan is on MN!

CassandraCross · 25/11/2018 16:24

I'm quite liking Brendan's critique, it's fair and balanced.

KurriKurri · 25/11/2018 16:53

I like Brendan's critique too - fair and balanced (I'm not an Ashley fan, but I can see she is a lovely dancer). I think he was treated pretty shabbily by the PTB fro someone who had been on the show so long. He'd have made a better head judge than Shirley Shambles.

morningtoncrescent62 · 25/11/2018 17:40

Just caught up. I'm surprised to see so many people are a bit meh about Stacey & Kevin's paso - it's my favourite dance this series by a long way. I had to watch it three times, absolutely loved it. I thought the choreography was exciting and Stacey's attitude was brilliant.

The lindyhopathon itself was boring and I nearly switched off before the end so I'd have wondered what all you lot were on about. Grin Time for a long overdue judges' refresh, I think. Let's have Arlene back as head judge, Karen Hardy on the panel, Craig remaining, and either Brendan or Ian as the fourth panellist.

PS I enjoyed the videos posted by GarethSouthgate at the start of the thread, and especially the professional medley from ye olden days.

Grace212 · 25/11/2018 18:18

what's a "ringer" please?

almondfinger · 25/11/2018 18:25

A ringer is someone with lots of previous dance training.

TheSassyAssassin · 25/11/2018 18:26

Someone who has danced before Grace, either receiving proper training, or who has danced in some capacity professionally...it might be a different genre (think Debbie McGee and ballet), but they are still trained to be able to dance!

Grace212 · 25/11/2018 18:28

thanks - why "ringer" please?

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 25/11/2018 18:32

Bloody hell. I’m just catching up on last night’s show. Tango to Eleanor Rigby? Wtf?

TheSassyAssassin · 25/11/2018 18:32

Actually comes from horse racing - so an animal that is entered in the place of another who isn't as good... in this instance it refers to a contestant who is essentially a bit of a cheat versus those who have never danced in their lives before. It would be like me entering the parents race on sports day and Usain Bolt was the dad of the one of the kids there Grin

dontcallmelen · 25/11/2018 18:35

My manners are dreadful, many thanks for the get well wishes feeling slightly less pathetic today.

Grace212 · 25/11/2018 18:38

I'm pretty sure there was a tango to Eleanor Rigby before, but the song was performed differently and it worked well.

Grace212 · 25/11/2018 18:38

Sassy - thanks! live and learn Smile

DarlingNikita · 25/11/2018 18:44

I think people are being a bit harsh about Shirley and the scoring mess. It's live telly and they use technology. If anything it's surprising that things don't go wrong more often. And Shirley is quite new to the live TV gig. Claudia dealt with it brilliantly but Tess was hopeless. She is an automaton with NO initiative or humour.

I thought Joe was stupidly overpraised. His dance was embarrassing. Loved Stacey: a fresh take on a paso. Faye was OK but I can't get excited about her dancing. Ashley's samba was hard and jerky, not bouncy and rhythmic. I didn't mind Charles. Karen does look unhappy or pissed off. I hope she's OK. Lauren was poor but I think people will still be voting for her. I've a feeling it's Graeme and Charles in the DO and if so, then I wouldn't blame Charles or Karen if one or both of them just flounced off the show! It must be so demoralising.

TheSassyAssassin · 25/11/2018 18:44

Welcome Smile

Grace212 · 25/11/2018 18:48

here's the previous tango to Eleanor Rigby, I loved it

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 25/11/2018 18:56

Fell down a bit of a Ramps rabbit hole 😊

OublietteBravo · 25/11/2018 19:00

Hello. Everyone ready for the results show?

I’m expecting Graeme or Lauren to go this evening (I’m assuming one or both will be in the dance off). Although a shock elimination does seem overdue this series, so you never know...

CassandraCross · 25/11/2018 19:04

I enjoyed that Ramps and Karen Tango, it does put into sharp relief the differences between the earlier series and now - the lack of faffing, the standard of dancing expected, adherence to the technical aspects of the dance, the scoring, I could go on and on and on. The later incarnations of SCD feel like a cheap imitation of the earlier ones, why did it go so downhill?
